Blue Lights (2023)
Excellent police drama set in Belfast.
With the seemingly endless choice of things to watch it's seems to have become the norm to have a list of unfinished series. This won't be one of them. Excellently written drama and very well acted. The story threads, characters and their relationships will soon have you on invested in this series.
I can't say that i was familiar will most of the actors in this series. But for me this only helped to make it seem fresh. It deals with gritty and unpleasant subject matters. But the acting and chemistry between the cast draws you in. There are of course lighter moments to keep the series moving along nicely. I would highly recommend watching.
Plane (2023)
Nothing special. An ok movie
For a start, I think plane crash movies and the ensuing aftermath are hard to do well. But as with a lot of these movies I think you have to suspend belief and hope to be entertained.
I thought the dialogue between the characters was a bit dull and so too the characters. The action scenes were so so but were just enough to keep the film watchable.
So why go to watch it? The film is not awful. I think there is enough to recommend spending an evening at the cinema. My score of 6 reflects that I think it worth the watch. Just don't expect too much and you will won't be too disappointed. Treat yourself to some popcorn and a drink to make the most of it.
Green Book (2018)
Brilliant and inspiring film.
I won't go on too much. This is a film that is really worth watching. The characters are played superbly. Their interactions make this film what it is.
Old (2021)
Poor film
Will keep this short. Like others, I decided to watch the film because I found the idea interesting. But that was it. Poor acting, script and scenarios.
Ammonite (2020)
Nice film. Worth the watch.
I will confess that I didn't know the story of Mary Anning. I decided to give this film a try because I'm a fan of Kate Winslet and because of the lesbian relationship between the two main characters. With a 15 rating the film is not overly explicit but was more so than I expected. But being less explicit does not take away from the power or eroticism of their relationship. The age difference between the characters and their different backgrounds make the story more enticing. It is quite a long period film but I think the story is well told and developed. I personally would recommend.
Arthur 2: On the Rocks (1988)
Very enjoyable film
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but i think some of the low scores are way off the mark. Really enjoyed this film. A touching mixture of comedy and moving scenes. If you haven't seen it then don't let some of the reviews put you off. Highly recommend feel good film.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Worth watching
Thought I should try to balance the reviews up a bit. Not saying it's a fantastic film but neither is it that bad. Definitely worth a watch whether you are a fan or not. Decent enough action film.
Unhinged (2020)
Only if you can suspend belief.
Just about watchable but not realistic at all. Think the courtesy tap 'joke' and the 'good choice' at not sounding her horn at the end were not needed...it wasn't an Arnie action film.
Notting Hill (1999)
Hugely enjoyable and touching film
Find it hard to believe that I have only just watched this film twenty two years after its release. It has certainly shown me that you can miss out on a really good film for many reasons. Great characters and very enjoyable performances by everyone involved. The film manages to be touching without being schmaltzy. If you haven't seen it yourself then I would highly recommend it.
