Guava Island (2019)
Interesting Project, but Not a Great Movie
I enjoy short consumable things, but this movie could of added 30 minutes to actually utilize its female leads. No offense to Rihanna's acting career, but why have her in a musical film and not have her sing? There is also virtually no point to the lovely Letitia Wright being in this movie. This "film" is a cool concept with a nice message, but it lacks depth.
The Perfect Date (2019)
This Movie Knows Exactly What It Is
We live in an age where people feel the need to be hyper-critical about everything. This movie set out to be a cute teen rom-com and that is what it was. Also, I applaud the fact that it featured female characters and a gay character who were not afraid to tell off the straight male protagonist.
Unicorn Store (2017)
An Interesting Movie Propelled by Good Performances
There are quite a bit of people here bashing Brie Larson and giving this movie low scores based purely on her. I am sensing that this is a continuation of the crusade against Captain Marvel (sexist or otherwise).
The movie is obviously metaphorical and meant to be a satire. It has an interesting and inventive premise, but the plot is still a basic believe in yourself story. Truth be told, what carries this film is Larson's charisma and charm as well as Bradley Whitford, Joan Cusack, and Samuel L. Jackson.
