The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
A Forceful Ending
Everything about this episode was great. The plot and action move at a fast pace and keeps you hooked. I liked the character development all around. Each story line gets service and the more important characters get their big resolutions. The video fx are perfect. There isn't alot of cinematography in this chapter but it's ok because of the plot taking up each scene. Of course everyone has their opinion about who showed up and all that. I like the choices the showrunners made. About the only thing I can think of that would have been awesome is if R2 had made his beeps and luke replied "no R2, that's not a baby yoda and he isn't gonna steal our stuff"
The Mandalorian: Chapter 15: The Believer (2020)
Good action and fast moving plot
This episode is pretty good. It moves along at a great pace and features slave-1 in action. The fight scenes are standard star wars style. One big downside to this episode is how little Mando speaks. He is mostly all action and no talk. He is chasing after his little padewon friend, so he could be more assertive. That's just Mando i guess. The visuals are excellent as always. I guess the only very bad thing about this episode is a reference Bill Burr's character makes. He references our favorite office workplace guys, you know, the ones that got the memo. That's just silly. What's next, a robot named PC-Load-Letter? Poor writing choice. 8 stars for this Star Wars
The Texture of Falling (2018)
Keep Portland Movies Weird
This movie is just like Portland. It's weird and quirky. It's an idea. The acting is bad at times, but maybe it was intended to be bad. In Portland, some may consider bad acting to be good acting, because it is bad. You know what I'm talking about. Many of the characters have little to no explanation or story, and in Portland that makes them fascinating and mysterious.
Meanwhile, in the real world... it's just not a cohesive movie with a strong story arc and quality character depth. Each scene basically relies on itself, instead of the arc. I think it had several good ideas, but most were poorly executed. The title of this film seems like a ripoff of the wildly over rated The Shape of Water. I don't recommend this movie, unless it is for research purposes. Also it doesn't help that two nights prior to watching this film, I hung out with my new neighbors and we watched the best romantic drama / love story film I've ever seen...Blue is the Warmest Color
Perry Mason (2020)
Gritty HBO action drama set 90 years ago
It's a really well made show. The production value is great. The actors are very established and really put their talent into each part. Many of the actors are recognizable, but others have good costuming and makeup so you can barely tell it is them. The story starts out with a big event surrounded in mystery, which I guess if the goal of a Perry Mason themed show. That keeps you wondering what is going to happen from scene to scene. The best part about the production is that it is on HBO so you know nothing will be sacrificed to please the "we cry about things we don't like" pc crowd. It's only 3 or 4 episodes in and I already know I will watch and like the whole series.
Don't pay attention to all the trash-bots that have posted so many 1 star reviews. I wonder who paid to have that done? Seems kinda odd for a show like this. I love that one trash-bot with a user name that is a random word followed by 18 numbers, with a 1 star rating and a 1 sentence review. Classic
L'amica geniale (2018)
HBO perfection
We know what HBO is capable of. Sopranos still reigns as #1 in TV land.
They can't even beat their own benchmark with their other hit shows.
Perfect show. Perfect story. Perfect characters.
Flawless production value.
Not a single moment where you say "wait what? i dunno about this show"
I won't keep going and talk about the plot or setting or whatever.
No need to mention the books. It is a show. Watch it.
Another HBO classic. 10 out of 10. it goes to 11
Sorry to Bother You (2018)
It is a movie that might be on and you might watch it
This movie doesn't really get anything done, other than the people who made it finished it and were able to get it shown to other people. It isn't a disaster and it isn't a success. 5 stars for being right on the middle of everything else.
From a film school standpoint, it has good potential to build characters and show story arc. It fails to make that happen on a solid premise. Creating an absurd alternate reality just tells the viewer "hey this movie is not based on reality!". The cast feels like extras. No need to care about them.
The viewer is left wondering what the heck is happening, because it has nothing to do with reality, so the characters have no depth, and the arc goes nowhere. Well, I guess it goes to the end. It really is one of those movies where it ends and you are like, whatever, I'm not gonna hate on it, just move on to something good. What is next? Oh hey, I am on episode 6 of HBO's My Brilliant Friend. Can't wait! What a great show. 10/10 for that show. It even goes to 11
It Chapter Two (2019)
Almost as good as the book
IT is really good. The people who made this movie happen knew what they were doing. They clearly love King and his work. IT is one of his best. The story is accurate and compelling. The actors are all-in. There is no flaw in any one scene you can point to, other than the true hardcore fans being like... "what about!?". Which just adds to the story. I just watched chapter 1 and 2 , 1 before the theater and 2 at the theater. PURE GOLD. That is, unless, you prefer to see people driving fast cars and shooting guns.
