Amish Mafia (2012)
Just too hard to believe
Several guys banding together to help out the community when it's been wronged. How can this not be interesting? A better question would be "how can they make an entire season's worth of film?" I wanted to give this show a chance, but after a few episodes I finally had to give up. It's just too hard to believe. I'm a fan of MST3K, so I've seen my fair share of bad movies and shows. This is kind of like that, only you don't have Joel/Mike and the bots to help you through it.
***SPOILER ALERT*** SO WHAT'S UNBELIEVABLE ABOUT THIS SHOW? THERE IS ENOUGH MONEY IN THE AMISH COMMUNITY TO ALLOW LEVI AND ANOTHER "MAFIA" MEMBER TO DRIVE A MERCEDES AND A CADILLAC? AND WHEN THEY "EXECUTE JUSTICE" NOBODY CALLS THE COPS? SEEMS TO ME THOSE VEHICLES WOULD STICK OUT IN THE COMMUNITY ENOUGH FOR THE POLICE TO ARREST THEM FOR VANDALISM, ETC. THAT'S THE UNBELIEVABLE PART IN MY OPINION.
Maybe with better writers this show could have made it further, but I don't see it lasting one season.
Bewitched: Hippie, Hippie, Hooray (1968)
Brief Look At The 60's Culture
***SPOILER ALERT*** This is one of the few times we see into the Tate's Kitchen, which looks strangely familiar, if you've ever seen I Dream Of Jeannie. I did notice both shows shared some of the same people on the production staff, which might explain it. Not the first time we see Elizabeth Montgomery play a dual role, but this one is especially done well. It's also an interesting look, although a brief one, at the 60's counter culture. As for the laugh track, it's been added back on the DVD we have, apparently someone else realized how uncharacteristic it was without one. I do love the music and styles associated with this particular episode. Especially the paisley and swirl designs in Serena's dress and guitar.
The Three Stooges (2012)
Good Comedy Never Goes Out Of Style
First off, I wonder how many giving the ratings on this film, even understand why it was made. This was made as an homage to the Stooges, with the same style of slapstick many of their fans have come to love. My wife and I saw the movie on Friday, expecting it would be somewhat funny, and realizing these actors weren't trying to replace the stooges. I had my reservations, but once the movie started I was really surprised. The actors had the mannerisms (and the voices) down pat. Dern, even the ones playing them as kids were believable. The story seemed in line with what they would do, with the stooges having the same child like innocence they always had. Unlike many movies that show the best clips for the commercials, yet lack any other funny parts for the rest of the film, this movie had MANY laugh out loud scenes, just like the original shorts. After seeing the clips online, my father in law is interested in going to the theater to see it, so we'll go back once more, it was that good in my opinion.
