Hillbilly (2018)
Bait And Switch!
The documentary started out pretty good, but immediately began with the rural residents voting for Trump, and how the female film maker, growing up in the Applacias, went to Los Angeles and turned extreme progressive. She introduces her family of Trump supporters, and the documentary picks up about the people of the Appalachia Kentucy area. It's obvious that the film maker is a newbie, but the topic is presented in an interesting way so as to keep the audience interested. It's also obvious that the film maker is probably a lesbian, where as she wasn't before leaving to L.A. At about 55 minutes, the switch happens to showcase the rural Kentucky gay artsy crowd and their involvements with their personal desires and struggles. Then that crowd goes to the black side of town, just for that reason, to bring up racial topics unrelated to the film. I give this documentary a score of 2 for misleading the audience and wasting my time for the sole purpose to feed me Social Progressive and gay strife talking points that have nothing to do with the film. I'm really getting tired of the documentaries coming from the politicalically motivated leftists, and in my opinion, the only thing progressive that is measurable is the hours and minutes the audience is spending getting force fed Liberal propaganda. Unless you want to watch a "woe is me" political show, you can safely skip this one!
Medical Police (2020)
Terrible Writing! Not Watchable!
What is wrong with script writers working with Netflix lately? They are apparently recruiting the back stage rooms of failed high school one act plays to get writers and actors. I think it's genuinely a marked difference in the way the younger generations of writers see our world today, and translating it to a script. They have no real knowledge of satire and how it works. This show in particular is not watchable because of the horrible mashup of comedy types and teenage talk in an adult show. Don't waste your time. Not on Netflix's new Dracula, also.
Hickok (2017)
Go ahead and watch it, you know you want to!
I liked this movie for the simple reason it was a western. While not spectacular, the show was still okay for late night viewing. Critics here giving 2's are not being fair with their overall assessment.
The Disappointments Room (2016)
A ghost story with many subtleties
A big city family, the mother loses her baby daughter, and for theuraputuc reasons they move South out of state to a small 1890's fixer-upper mansion estate. Weird but subtle poltergeist things begin to happen, but the mother is the only one who perceives them to be unnatural. Her being an architect, finds a hidden attic room and begins to do research on the house and family history.
This is not a horror or constant "got you" movie, but more like a ghost story that builds a little at a time. This is not a show for a crowd of people who like to talk while watching movies because there are small details that build to create the noir of the story. I've seen this show twice a couple of years apart. It was better the second time. Critics are too hard on this movie I think, because they have no patience and are constantly expecting to be afraid all of the time. This is not that kind of movie. This is a late night personal flick.
The biggest gripe about this show that I have is the cast of men, meaning the father and the handyman. They really didn't help this flick at all.
