The Wheel of Time (2021)
Read the books if you like this show
For context: I watched the show, went to read the books for the first time and then came back for season two.
When I first watched it I was flabbergasted by how mediocre this show was. It was until I read the books and discovered how thrilling and amazing the story was. Coming back for season two felt like a slap in the face to someone who just became a fan of the book series. Don't get me wrong the show is still mediocre and season 2 is not worse than the first. But I imagine the arrogance of the authors thinking they could write a better story than the original author. It's like adapting Harry Potter but changing the plot entirely. Or adapting the Witcher and spitting so much on the books your main actors leaves the project. This adaptation is equally bad. This is just a story in the same franchise with the same character names but literally nothing more.
I'm someone who's very open to some changes to characters and story but this show changed every single aspect down to the smallest details as if their goal was to be as different as possible yet having to be a wheel of time show. And who would've thought the authors and showrunners did a godawful job at it.
Eternals (2021)
Best marvel movie for me
I'll start with: this movie probably isn't for you if you expect marvel formula and action scenes that get bigger and bigger. It is completely different from every other mcu movie and that's really refreshing and something that should happen more often.
The movie explores the life of the eternals and their personal change over thousands of years. It shines with its ability of putting different beings into the spotlight of becoming humans and explores the variety of characters that are formed over the years. This movie with multiple characters is more intimate and tragic than every other mcu movie out there that features only one main character. Zhao manages to draw beautiful characters in such a short time and combined with her teams skill in cinematography and the actors ability to act every nuance of the characters she manages to bring an incredible experience of a movie onto the screen that I hope we will see more frequent in the next few years.
What If...? (2021)
What if...
...people would stop review bombing a show that hasn't been released in its entirety. The show is fast paced and not the best show marvel has released that's true. But the stuff people write here is their emotions nothing else. If you have nothing constructive to say then keep quiet completely. Nobody wants to read your whiny bs.
Dracula (2020)
This show got BBCed
It started off so great but as all BBC shows it somehow HAS to play in the UK. It lost its charm with that move.
Batwoman (2019)
Not bad not good either
Definitely not as bad as the people here claim it is. It's not worse than legends of tomorrow.
Koto no ha no niwa (2013)
Made with love
This movie is made with love. Something you don't see much these days. 10 stars.
Hagane no renkinjutsushi (2017)
Insulting
If I wanted to insult the fullmetal alchemist stories I couldn't do better than this movie. One good thing about the movie are the visuals but that's it. That's also the reason I gave this movie 2 stars instead of one.
The choice of filming locations is awful, the atmosphere completely failed, the fighting scenes bad and everything in between ridiculous. They failed Ed's character and made Al completely obsolete.
I'm not against any further live action adaption but not if they're as bad as this one is.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
It's okay. (Ultimate edition)
This movie really has its ups and downs. First of all the whole building of the movie. The beginning of the movie was (in my opinion) well told. It builds up this whole problem around superman real good but it fails to include Batman properly in all of this. I've watched this movie 3 times now and I still can't tell exactly what his actual issue is? Is it because superman fought an enemy that could've easily conquered earth and destroyed parts of a city? It would be absolutely reasonable if they would build it up properly but the problem is this movie tries to tell 2 story lines; lex Luthor trying to beat superman and batman trying to beat superman. Why not split it up? You could easily make 2 movies out of this.
Another huge issue is the writing. Not the story but the dialogues. At some point we get nice comic dialogues that fit perfectly into the movie and the next moment we get dialogues á la Game of Thrones season 8. "Martha... why are you saying that name?" come on guys. I don't have an issue with the fact that he stops beating superman up after hearing his mother's name since Bruce Wayne has a huge trauma but could you at least write it better? And this whole confrontation between superman and batman was just flat action. In the one moment superman wants batman's help in the next moment he start beating him up. And then showing his funeral for 10 minutes straight. Yes we got it superman is dead. Could've used some of that time on thinking about something better than "why are you saying that name".
Snyder did a great job with the directing tho. This movie is visually stunning and has great action (I'm talking about that one fight of batman that pleases my comic reader heart). Hans Zimmer also did a great job on the soundtrack; as always.
(And last thing but this is my own opinion: why did you have to make alfred some hipster oldy? He seems like he cares more about his looks and doesn't look at all like someone who was a special agent. Sorry but this character is just as laughable as lex Luthor. Grab a single batman comic and you'll find that whatever they tried to do in this movie: this isn't alfred.)
Aquaman (2018)
Great Movie
Since a lot has been said already: the story isn't as bad as everyone claims it is and the character development could've been improved. I personally loved the story since it told a great adventure. The visuals are one of the best I've seen and the actors are also great. The music is beautiful and fits perfectly into every scene. If you want to watch a visually stunning superhero movie with great music and a well written story, you will probably like this movie. And as I said: I don't know what issue some people here have but the movie is by far not as bad as they claim.
Captain Marvel (2019)
People disliking this movie not because its bad
I really don't know what the reason is I see so many hate comments here but the movie was very good. On the same level as every other marvel movie; probably a little bit better than that. It is funny, has a good plot and Larsons acting is great. I guess a lot of people watched it with prejudices I don't know but it is really good. The hate it receives is definitely not because it's bad but because of other reason not regarding this movie at all.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Finally something fresh
As a Star Trek Fan I slowly got annoyed by those single episodes. Poorly any stories in the old shows. This starts fresh and completely different from what Star Trek was like. I don't understand all the bad reviews here but apparently a lot of people like to chew an old gum over and over again. This is modern scifi and I really hope it keeps going because for me it's great.
