SKAM Italia (2018)
An incredible remake
I'm always skeptical when it comes to remakes, especially since the original Skam was such an incredible show that resonated with me as a teenager. I was worried that the remakes (I believe there are six total) would become carbon copies of the original, but Skam Italia is not. It follows the original story line while adding its own unique flair and staying true to Italian culture. The second season is especially amazing. The acting is sublime, the chemistry between the two leads is off-the-charts, and the way that Martino's coming out is depicted is realistic, touching, and inspiring. I also appreciate the portray of Borderline Personality Disorder, a mental illness that is rarely presented in media. All in all, I love this show. I look forward to seeing where it goes, while also learning more about Italian culture.
Élite (2018)
Conflicted ...
I'm not quite sure how I feel about Elite. I've watched three episodes, and while I find some parts very intriguing and well-done, there are other scenes that are just plain awful. The dialogue can be stilted at times, and some of the actors are pretty flat, but the story line is interesting enough that I will probably finish the season. All in all, it's not the worst show I've seen but it's certainly not the best.
