Airplane vs. Volcano (2014)
New level of wasting time
Airplanes vs. Volcanoes is a movie about ,well as you would expect by the title, an airplane vs. volcano. This movie stars Dean Cain in the leading role alongside Robin Givens as they are trapped on a plane in among volcanoes trying to escape.
As you would expect this movie isnt very interesting in the slightest, actually the whole idea of this movie is nonsense.Normally as a reviewer i try to give movies a chance a small benefit of the doubt. For the most part some movies do have redeeming qualities, but there is movies such as this that really stretch it.
I find it sometimes hard to phrase how i feel about things and this one such case i dont. Firstly, let me start off by saying that this movie attempts to flesh out its characters, this aspect isnt focused on for very long as the dialogue between the characters either sounds clunky or forced preventing any type of development.
Some characters present on the plane throughout the movie feel as if they are ghosts not reacting or saying anything. I would have expected, since the cast on the plane itself is very small, everyone to play a role in the plot someway but as you would expect are props to kill off or something along those lines. Most of the main cast of characters, including the likes of the protagonist and the air marshall, lack any sort of depth and to me felt one dimensional. As for interactions there lacks any kind of substance to hold interest for very long.
I found myself at many points during the movie laughing, just purely at how things kind of just happen. I feel as if, eventhough it is fictional, the amount of absolute nonsense characters say in this movie doesnt reflect the tone very well. The tone of this movie is very unclear as i felt that it was intentionally over the top and goofy, for the lack of a better word, but i think it was meant to be serious for the most part.
As of right now, and probably for the fact that i wont waste an hour and a half again, i dont recommend this movie to anyone. At the least get some friends together to experience this as you might get some laughter out of it.

Logan (2017)
A legacy
Logan is the final film Hugh Jackman will be portraying this iconic character of wolverine that he has ingrained his portrayal into fans of the Xmen and the wolverine for 17 years, this film marks the end of an era and is quite gut wrenching to think about growing up along side the movies,in my opinion this movie is the best way send off the character in a satisfying and emotional film that every fan has truly been waiting for in a faithful adaptation of the character and loosely based on the old man Logan story line.
As a fan of these x men films(although not all great)i have grown to become invested in these characters and that one character is wolverine, wolverine is poster boy for the Xmen movies and has got a spin off series of movies due to his popularity and in my opinion if it wasn't for Hugh Jackmans portrayal of the character he probably wouldn't be as successful as he is nowadays.
Logan is that movie that appeals to the fans of the character and hits fanboys in such unexpected ways that its actually a painful experience in that satisfying, emotional almost empty feeling by the end of the film, this film hit me harder then expected and for that experience alone just left me with very high praise for this film.
This film deals with a lot of different aspects and has a very fitting tone of gritty and serious but also has moments of levity with slight humour and really invests the audience in the characters, the aspect of character in this film was very prominent and is really the main focus as in this film is a very character driven and doesn't rely on big action scenes but very small and quiet scenes that explores the characters way of thinking and their motivations, this comic book film separates itself from what people expect from those types of movies for something fans can really respect.
Although this film is character driven and its main focus is to explore them as human beings and not as the "mutants" that people in this film has a hatred,it follows aging Logan and senile Xavier in a world where they are alone with no hope left and nowhere to go which gives the tone of helplessness and the need to escape from the cruel world a very powerful and emotional feel.
Overall this movies as an absolutely amazing experience that allows the audience to experience every emotion and sympathize with an aging and brutal Logan in his final outing,it offers amazing and investing character development and absolutely beautiful brutal fight scenes that perfectly depicts the true character, but the one true problem i have with this film is the pacing but even a fan like me cant dwell to much on it with the fact that it was such a great conclusion and send off.

Furry Vengeance (2010)
What a movie
Furry vengeance is a "comedy" movie starring Branden Fraser revolves around his character and his failing career as a property developer who's life is ruined by animals, this movie is one of those movies you can only watch at least once only with the company of friends or anyone that wants to sit through this that wants to be annoyed or frustrated, this movie was a bland, tasteless boring film with dry slapstick "comedy" and no real point to the plot or in general.
Plot
The plot or lack there of is presented to the viewer in such a bland and dry tone, the bland and lifeless characters inhabiting this world leads the plot into an almost limbo like state of dry slap stick humour filled film, the main concept of the film is a simplistic and basis idea of animals attack man,man attacks animals in an almost as a tom and Jerry type of way, unlike Tom and Jerry this film lacks the comedic value and relies on factors such as Brandon Fraser's face acting.
To be honest i really don't have an idea of what the point of the plot was that was shown to me even struggling to watch it again for this review, the only moment of levity in this film is the script and how primal it actually was showing an almost immature nature to the whole thing.
characters
The discussion of the characters is one aspect of this film that really annoys me and would rather avoid ranting but for the sake of this i will discuss it. the topic of characters for me is a big thing and would rather watch natural, sympathetic characters with real relatablity and emotion to follow and root for them, but many films in recent years have not supplied that which is a major deal in my opinion, the point of characters is for the viewer to experience the world that they inhabit but also follow their actions and propel the plot forward to their ultimate goal, that is not the case with this film and pretty much just ignores that factor.
The main problem i have with these characters is that they are bland, bland is one of the worst things your characters can be for the sake of the audience and gives absolutely no relatablity factor which doesn't allow for much character development as well.
Overall
Although this film have moments of levity of how stupid it can actually get this film was not enjoyable in anyway and i really wouldn't recommend watching this under any circumstance, maybe with some friends this movie could be enjoyable but in my personal opinion i really disliked this due to the idiotic slapstick humour and really primal script. 1 out of 10
La La Land (2016)
a musical with surprises
La la land is a musical rom-com film starring Ryan gosling and Emma stone in the leading roles of a musician trying to find his way and a somewhat failing actress, this film is an beautiful love letter to Hollywood and music as they are blended into one musical/film hybrid, one aspect that needs the highest praise is the absolutely beautiful and emotional music throughout the movie that drags you into the film and is an absolute beauty to listen to that sets the tone perfectly for every scene in this movie, but as every film has its best parts it also has its bad parts.
Characters As everyone knows, every film needs good leads to captivate and engross the audience and this film has exactly that, the characters throughout the film expresses their struggle with their careers and their personal struggles as well which makes the audience sympathetic for the the characters and understand them as people, the chemistry between the two leads is so convincing and shows the development of their characters because of each other showing their support and love for each other but also falls due to the clichés of romance tropes but tells a much deeper personal story within the characters and their dependence on each other.
The on screen chemistry between the leads of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone was a great addition to this film and really drove the film for me in my opinion along with the music, although the romance does fall due to the clichés it is easily the best part and really developed the romance in such a way that it felt real,i cannot praise the superb job the actors did in their respective roles and is worth all the praise.
Plot When it comes to the plot of the film for me its kind of hard to pin down what it was really about,i know the answer would be clear to other people who have seen the film but for me it was more of a music drives the film forward and gave me a better understanding of the story more then the actual film did which is quite a unique experience, being a big fan of the type of music used to tell the story in this film i enjoyed it a lot more then anticipated and got engrossed in the emotional impactful scenes that grabbed my attention and left me speechless.
one problem i did have with this film was the way they executed the balance between the musical side of the film and the character interactions and development,at many times during the film i would often forget it was a musical because of the imbalance of story being told and the musical side, this would often become jarring but the absolutely fantastic music made up for the problem which was an easy way to keep the audiences attention.
overall this film was fantastic and well worth the watch due to its fantastic music and great acting along with the great on screen chemistry from the leads of this film,if any movie-goer has two and a half hours definitely see this film even if you are not a fan of musicals. 9 out of 10
Passengers (2016)
a wonderful surprise
Passengers is a sci-fi romance starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as the two protagonists embarking on a ninety year journey across the universe, this movie is a self contained movie taking place entirely on the ship homestead and gives a unique story telling experience for the director to show the isolation of space travel if you were completely alone on an absolutely massive space ship, although i extremely enjoyed this film and i had a lot of entertainment watching it some things bothered me but ultimately didn't effect my overall enjoyment of the film and one of the best movies I've seen this year.
Characters Although there are only four prominent characters in this movie each character gets motivation,a unique personality and great character development that has a pay off and makes the viewer get invested in these great cast of characters,in my opinion a smaller cast allows for more development and gives more time to flesh out the characters as human beings and not just props, this type of self contained story telling is personally my favourite and investing me into the movie, the character personalities are portrayed fantastically by the lead roles of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence who are great actors, the chemistry between their characters through the movie expands and gives an organic and sweet romance that surprised me it mixed well into a sci-fi movie based around isolation.
Plot Seeing the trailers, i knew almost nothing about the plot and was fascinated to see the kind of ideas they would address having an entire space ship as their playground, the topic of isolation was the idea i wanted them to emphasize throughout the film and the utter loneliness you would experience completely isolated from everyone else, although they did show moments of loneliness during the film and were the highlights of the film in my opinion but saying that it doesn't emphasis the characters isolation in full which i would have liked to see and would have immersed my experience in this film by a whole lot having such a great actor that can fully pull this off. another aspect of this film that really confused me was the time span of this film and over how long a time it shows these characters lives on this ship, although it is explained in this film that the movie takes place over a long time span it does not show that time in the movie and really confused me during the viewing of this movie,in my personal opinion this aspect is not a big problem and will not take away from the overall experience.
This movie was a very unique experience for me and had a lot of fun watching this film,i would highly recommend this film to regular movie-goers and sci-fi lovers because it offers a very rich and unique twist on space travel and the idea of isolation in this massive ship along with a very organically played out chemistry between the two leads of this movie. 8 out of 10
Ratchet & Clank (2016)
best video game movie by default
Ratchet an clank is the film adaptation of the famous video game franchise created by insomniac games, this movie i was initially very excited for when they announced it because i being a big fan of the franchise loved the idea of this film and to see what they would do with the property in film adaptation, although i was somewhat disappointed with the film i still had fun watching it and gave me a good few laughs.
Plot The first thing i noticed when i was watching the film is that the writers relied heavily on the fans and the game, this aspect isn't necessarily a bad thing but if the whole film relies on the fans and jokes that only the fans will only understand it doesn't really attract people that are only witnessing it for the first time which in my opinion is distracting, another aspect this film relies on is cheap humour, cheap humour is a major turn off in films in general in my opinion and it is extremely obvious that the humour is more aimed for the demographic of children which isn't a bad thing but personally i do not like any type of cheap humour. The discussion of the plot is hard for me because even though it has its problems it does do these characters justice and i personally enjoyed myself through the majority of the film with the clever jokes and call backs to the game(in the form of the weapons arsenal)this leads to the movie being extremely self aware which is a mix between a blessing and a curse, but the problem i have with this movie is the fact that the set up of the actual plot takes up a lot of time and ultimately leads to a dragged out 2nd act and fairly OK 3rd act,the introductions of certain aspects of this universe isn't handled in the greatest way expecting the viewer to remember all these planets, characters, locations and motivations.
Characters The characters in this film range from heavily based and inspired by the game to very generic and stereotypical, this range between characters is quite apparent and leads to the character interactions being predictable and the personalities of some characters being generic and underdeveloped, the designs of the characters are extremely loyal to the games and one aspect of this film i absolutely respect and happy that they decided to have relatively simple but loyal designs, easily the best character in this film is quark, the character of quark in this film is extremely loyal to the games and is his usual over confident, cocky self which was the biggest highlight of the film for me in a movie filled with stereotypical characters.
Overall i have mixed opinions on this film and easily the best video game adaptation so far by default, even though i love the franchise and was a big part of my childhood this film did not exceed or fall under my expectations and was an enjoyable experience and a good way to spend an hour and a half if u are a fan of this franchise but for me this film was extremely average. 6 out of 10
Nerve (2016)
unique-ish film
Nerve is a unique-ish film and sets a kind of futuristic tone for the viewers by creating a world in which the world is crazy for a game every teen is playing, this game is called nerve and the premise behind the game is that you can be one of two categories, a player or a watcher, this game creates a world in which people(the watcher)have to dare the players to do certain things for their entertainment, personally i found this premise interesting and quite intrigued to find out what they would do with the idea.
Plot This aspect of the movie is abit hit or miss for my type of watching experience and overall analyze of the movie itself, the positives of the plot in my personal opinion is that the concept and idea of this game is quite unique and shows how the popularity of this game can cause people(the players)to do things that can ruin their life or even kill them, this idea i really wanted the film to explore and it ultimately does explore some aspects of the game but explains the more damaging side to the game and not the extent that this game can reach in terms of why everyone loves and is obsessed with this game, saying that the overall concept and what they did with the idea of this game existing gave me an idea of how this world works and found that the film gave enough substance to show that this game is massive in this world.
The negatives i have with the plot is that it feels abit bland and uninspired in terms of the rules of this game as a whole, the film explains itself in a way that raises more questions then answers, throughout the movie i kept thinking of the likes of hunger games and the maze runner because of its lack of uniqueness and ultimately distracted me from the movie making me think of other movies.
Characters the characters are somewhat complex and react to the events happening to them throughout the film, the main character venus(known as vee to other characters)played by Emma Roberts is the most complex character in this movie and shows the effects firsthand that the game has on people that are players, this gives the story a unique-ish feel and expresses the effects that this game has on peoples lives(this aspect is shown through the character of Ian),vee is shown to be a character with very little confidence and hangs around with people who play nerve and are more confident then she is,the character of vee is very relatable and sympathetic.
The character of Ian(a more experienced player and partner of vee)is a character that the viewers are introduced to that expresses the experience he has in this game and also shows the effects of this game and the damage that's caused, personally i did not find Ian an interesting character and overall did not effect the experience for me,saying that the relationship between vee and Ian was a very interesting part of the movie and expands and develops the relationship and makes it more organic.
Overall the movie was a very unique-ish experience for me and offered a very unique and expansive lore to the world and very interesting concept of this game. 7 out of 10
Rogue One (2016)
the movie to tie the movies together
Rogue one:a star wars story is the first of an anthology series for the star wars franchise and is a major expansion of the star wars movies and in universe lore that the movies are able to explore and also please the big star wars fans.
My initial thoughts on the film leading up to its release was that i wasn't really that interested and even though being a massive star wars fan for most my life and holds major nostalgia for me like most people in the star wars community, though the bulk of the trailer releases for the movie i initially avoided them but as it came closer to the release it began to peak my interest again but saying that i am glad i avoided the trailers and promotional material because this movie really surprised me when i did get the chance to see it.
Characters this movie even thought featuring key characters such as vader, tarkin, leia and cameos from c-3po and r2 this movie does a very good job in establishing its own expansive and likable cast of characters, the cast of characters feel organic and each character gets their time to shine no character is forgotten and each one brings a different aspect of the rebel army and their own unique personality which they get to expand a lot on through out the film, although the ending was fast paced and the characters get the ultimate pay off and even though predictable still left me satisfied.
One major problem i have is the pacing at the beginning of the film, the pacing is really jarring at the beginning and introduces a backstory and most of the main cast of characters in a very short space of time, this aspect of the movie put me off the film but once the main plot begins and kicks off with the formation of the team begins to fade away, this one minor problem isn't the biggest and can be overlooked but for me it was jarring and kind of distracting.
With all that said i very much enjoyed this film, this film is a great expansion to the universe of star wars and explores the chapter between the revenge of the sith and a new hope, since i have not delved into the rich lore of the star wars universe outside the films this is a very new experience for me as a star wars fan and ultimately was an incredibly satisfying film. 9 out of 10
Disaster Wars: Earthquake vs. Tsunami (2013)
right well ........
Disaster wars:tsunami vs earthquake is one of those movies that you see that you never talk about or see it in a DVD bin or second hand shop, this into is fairly short due to the movie i have just watched.
The first initial reaction to this films existence is what a weird title for a movie, then you realize that the concept doesn't really make much sense because in order for a tsunami to happen an earthquake must occur either in the ocean or near the coast that it sends aftershocks out to cause the tsunami,so logically the concept of the movie"tsunami vs earthquake"would'nt really pan out in a movie as this movie tries to emphasize(disappointingly this match between natural disasters never actually happens til the end in an extremely dragged out and terrible looking scene),as for the movie itself, the movie was something i was not expecting and bored and baffled me to a point where i had to take a break and think over what i was actually getting myself into.
the aspects of this film i would like to point out for being something kind of ridiculous is the terrible cgi and set designs(this also includes filming locations such as outside shots),the first experience i had with the terrible looking cgi was in the first couple of minutes into the film and immediately regretted watching this film, the whole third act of the film is a horrible computer generated mess that is actually really hard to watch. another topic that is prominent that i have a major issue with is the "characters",the "characters"are all pretty much the exact same personality wise(cardboard),as the movie progressed i was kind of hoping that they would try and add personality variety between them but that was of a high expectation, one of the biggest problems i have with the characters is the main character, the reason i forgot his name is because the director and screenwriter must have forgotten to add him in and actually give him motivation like a main character has to have, most he does in the movie is go somewhere for 20 minutes and give the viewer exposition about the tsunami.
In my honest opinion i don't actually recommend this film because there is nothing compelling about this film but if you want to waste an hour and 25 minutes of your time then go right ahead.
