OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes (2017)
still miss this show
I might be a little biased on this review. But this show did a lot for me. The show started in my freshman year of high school. And ended During my junior year. The show has had a big influence on my art style and how I tell my stories. I remember drawing the characters a lot when I was in my freshman year. And I remember being so sad in my junior year of high school that the show was ending. I didn't keep up with the show for a long time At that point. But during my junior year it was fun to look back at the show and watch the stuff that I missed. And I'm glad that I was at least there for when the finale first aired
Most of the characters are super fun and enjoyable. The animation is either super funny looking and off-model. Or super well animated and consistent when it needs to be. Like in the fight scenes. I'm sad that Cartoon Network pulled the plug on this show and mistreated it. But I'm still glad that we got to get some sort of conclusion for the show and I hope all of the people who worked on it get new animation gigs
The show is definitely not perfect but it will always be in my heart.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2022)
i love being a turtle 🐢
The rise of the TMNT movie is probably my favorite Ninja Turtles movie. And definitely my favorite Nickelodeon movie ever. The fact that Nickelodeon released this movie is impressive to me. I'm not thanking Nickelodeon in this review because they mistreated the show that this movie is based on. But I will congratulate the talented team of people who worked on the show and the movie for giving us a good time. And if this is the last thing we see from Rise of the TMNT. I would be pretty happy with that.
The animation in this movie is absolutely insane. Some of the best 2D animation I've seen in a good while. All of the fight scenes are amazing and well choreographed. Like I said in my review of the show. All of the fight scenes are super fast-paced but are still easy to understand. The storyboarding in the fight scenes in particular is amazing. The poses of the characters are Dynamic and expressive. All of the backgrounds the turtles fight in are well detailed and you really get A sense of scope during the fight scenes.
All of the main cast get something to do in this movie. Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey, April, splinter, and Casey. All play an important role during the conflict in this movie. I never got a feeling that some of the characters weren't getting enough screen time. All of the characters have an important role to play in this movie and it's wonderful
But unfortunately, this movie is not perfect. Leonardo in particular is Annoying throughout the first half of this movie and makes watching the earlier parts of this movie a kind of frustrating. It does fit his character that he would be narcissistic and cocky considering the stuff he went through in the show. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. But the movie remedies this. Leonardo screws up and Casey gets angry at him and tells him that he's being irrational. And from that point on Leonardo isn't cocky anymore. He listens to his team and gets the job done correctly. But unfortunately, I know there are going to be plenty of people who don't get to that part of the film where Leonardo redeems himself. They're going to get annoyed by Leonardo and turn off the movie and write an angry review. I've already seen it happen. If you are one of those people trust me I get where you're coming from, but you need to watch the whole movie. It gets better I promise
But other than that. I don't really have any problems with this movie. Sure it's a bit predictable. But honestly, I don't really care it's a fun movie. It has great emotional moments. And I had a good time throughout the entire movie.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018)
Do not be fooled the show is not a 5 out of 10 IMDb is just crazy
Rise of the TMNT is a great series. I understand it's not for everyone. It doesn't have that much of an overarching story minus near the end of both season 1 and season 2. But I don't know it's just a fun time. I mean the 80s cartoon didn't really have that much of a story if I remember correctly so this is kind of nothing new for the Ninja Turtles
The characters work great off of each other and there are plenty of Funny Moments throughout the series. I will admit there is a lot of references to Modern culture that might come off as cringe-worthy. But I don't know I think it kind of makes sense considering they are teenagers of course they would be doing stupid things like dabbing or sending memes or whatever. But those moments are few and far between anyway so it doesn't really bother me as much as others.
The character designs are wonderful. I don't care what anyone says. Just because it's different doesn't make it bad. And in my opinion I think the designs are very good. I love how each of the turtles are based off of different types of turtles. Like Donatello being a softshell turtle, Raphael being a snapping turtle, Mikey being a box turtle, And leo is a red eared slider . Basing them off of different Turtles and giving them unique body types and head shapes just overall makes this series stand out amongst all of the other Ninja Turtle adaptations.
Not to mention the show has some of the best 2D animation I've seen in a kids cartoon. I'm not really an expert on animation or anything but this show looks amazing. If you haven't seen anything from Rise. I'd at least recommend looking up some fight scenes on YouTube. They're very hectic and fast pace. But it's not too fast to the point where you can't tell what's going on. The final fight in season 2 especially is a highlight and probably one of my favorite fights in the entire Ninja Turtles franchise
Speaking of things that help with sticking out. I think the choice of having not only mutants be present in the show. But something new like the Yokai really sets this show apart from the others. The fact that there is this city full of Yokai just deep under New York is very interesting. The hidden city in particular has some of the most gorgeous backgrounds in the entire series. They really built up the Hidden City and the world of the Yokai very well.
The only thing I wasn't super crazy about the show was when the jokes didn't really land for me. Some references to internet culture in this series are sometimes outdated. But like I said those moments are few and far between and don't really take away from the series that much. And honestly, I feel like Nickelodeon might have forced the writing team to put them in when they didn't want to but that's just my speculation. Speaking of Nickelodeon mistreating this show. The only other flaw I have with the show is that the second season is somewhat rushed but honestly that's not really the show's fault that's Nickelodeon's fault for canceling it not even halfway through the second season. I'm glad that the team was able to get some sort of conclusion with the series before Nickelodeon pulled the plug. But the fact that they had to rush anything just ticks me off.
