Feardotcom (2002)
I really like this movie.
As a big fan of William Malone (House on haunted hill is one of my favorite movies) I really think this movie is good. Malones estetic is ever present and it kind of feels like living inside a Marilyn Manson-video. I like the cast too, Stephen Dorff is good (has he been in any movies lately?) and Stephen Rea is a fine sadistic killer. I can see why Malones movies isn't for everyone but, come on, it's not that bad!!
William Malone has retired from directing which I think is really sad - although he works with fx now (I follow him on Instagram) and is very good at it. Good to know he's still in the industry!
Sisu (2022)
Finnish sisu at it's best!
If Quentin Tarantino and John Wick had a love child, it would be this movie. The chapters are very Tarantino but his movies has a tendency to be very chatty - Sisu is anything but. That lends very well to the beautiful cinematography and the grit of the main character. He lets his fists do the talking so to speak. The violence is blatant but so over the top it is not shocking anymore - just like the John Wick movies. There is even a dog in the movie, the mainstream character's best friend. Strange how you do not care is Korpi slaugthers nazis left and right, but please don't touch the dog for christ sake!!!
Thoroughly entertaining! And the fact that Korpi only speaks a few words at the very end is hilarious!!
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Utterly Entertaining
Swedens finest David S Sandberg has done it again! This is the best kind of action movie combined with comedy, lots of clever little jokes scattered throughout. Lotta Losten, the other part of the dynamic duo, plays a nurse in a car that almost falls from a bridge - and of course is she listening to Holding out for a hero in her car!!
The actors are really great, specially Zachary Levi as Shazam. He plays a kid in a grown up's body on point and sooo hilarious!
This movie has been dubbed a fiasco and I really do not understand why! It has all the charm of the first one and a great script. And a great director to boot!
Depeche Mode: 101 (1989)
Nostalgia de luxe!
I will be taking my daughter to the Memento Mori tour i may and I just gorge in everything Depeche now. I have been a fan since 1983 and as a person who was around in the 80-s I am floored by nostalgia!! We had zero fashion sense but it was a time of naive innocence , we did not take things that seriositet. And really good music. So nice to see Fletch also, Rest Easy!! Dave looks hot, Martin is happy and Alan plays so good.
I just listened to Memento Mori and it has some great songs on there - whatever beef Martin and Dave had they seem to have resolved it now. I am sooo looking forward to see them!
Deadstream (2022)
Pleasantly surprised!
I really enjoyed this and I usually think that found footage died with the Blair Witch. Well...maybe the first Paranormal Activity and Rec also. You get vibes from Evil Dead (which many others also has commented on) and first person shooter games. The make up is quite good regarding that the film makers probably had a small budget. And I kind of like Shawn - very good take on an obnoxious youtuber that does anything for likes! Well worth a watch! You can tell that the actors had fun with this one. Oh, and the comments from the live stream viewers are hilarious!
This may do for the director's career what Paranormal Activity did for Oren Peli.
Hellraiser (2022)
This is quite good!
I like Bruckner's direction, Eli Born's cinematography and the actors. Jamie Clayton fills Doug Bradley's shoes nicely (even if noone will be such a stellar Hellpriest as mr Bradley - truly an icon).
But - if I could make a change it would be the apperence of the cenobites, i like them better "old school" with leather and latex and perhaps wetter and more glistening if you know what I mean!
I think that David Bruckner is a really good director and after The Ritual and The Night House, this is along his estetic and I am really pumped to see what he does next. I would love to see him collaborate with cinematographer Elisha Christian from the Night House, they meshed perfectly!
Big Game (2014)
Fun and silly in the best way possible.
Cool to see action from Finland, and well made as well. A stellar cast but I liked the kid who plays Oskari the most! There even are nifty one liners! Take it for what it is - a tongue in cheek take on the genre.
Studio 666 (2022)
Funny and charming...
And the effects are really well made. I find the fact that the acting is a bit stiff endearing. It is quite sad to see Taylor with his mates and know that he is gone now. At least they got to do this first. And the demon song rocks hard!! 🤘
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
I liked it...
Much more than I thought I would!! A cool final girl and nods to the original. Great fun on the bus when everyone starts filming instead of running for their lives. It also manages to avoid leaning on jump scares! A nice reboot of the series!
Malignant (2021)
Watched it twice...
...until I really knew what I thought. The second time I really enjoyed the nice cinematography, use of colours and the cool performance by Marina Mazepa and Troy James. I love it!
The Night House (2020)
Pretty and creepy!
I loved Bruckners The Ritual and this is even better! Great casting in the lead role and wonderful cinematography by Elisha Christian. The use of angles adds so much.
What We Do in the Shadows: The Escape (2021)
Comedy gold!!
The best episode of the whole series!! The harmonica, The flamingo floatie and Doug Jones!
Into the Dark: The Body (2018)
Tom Bateman...oh, my!
This is fun and bloody but the real treat is Tom Bateman as the stone cold killer!! An entertaining watch for those of you who liked Masters of Horror and Fear Itself!
Miracle Workers: Oregon Trail: Hunting Party (2021)
Hilarious!!
I love Radcliffe in this episode!! His Bowie-esque routine made me laugh so hard! "Honk honk"!!
Rome (2005)
Utterly great
The cast is so great (i am partial to marc Anthony and atia but all is great), the scenery, the script where real events are written in. The best tvseries i have ever seen.
30 Monedas (2020)
Fun, gory and original
Spanish horror is certainly alive and kicking. I really loved this and can accept the mysterious ending because I read that there is two more seasons coming. I hope HBO sees the light and renew these seasons or I will sick Father Vergara at them. He is my new idol by the way - handsome and as badass as they come. I have to check out de la Iglesias other work!!
The Ritual (2017)
Sweden is nicer than this, I promise!
I just read Adam Nevilles novel and they changed it quite a lot in the movie. I must say I prefer the movie which seldom is the case. The novel is also good but it took a completely different path. I love the scenes where the store from London merges with the forest, a nice way to show the guilty conscience from the shooting. Maybe the monster is a bit weird and not so scary but it is still a great movie.
Aterrados (2017)
Great and well made
I do not care that lots of plot point were not explained, the cool scares, pretty filming and overall creepy vibe made me love it. And can we perhaps expect an Aterrados 2? Don't mind if I do!!
Come Play (2020)
Predictable
Relies on jump scares and as a hardcore horror fan you see the plot unfold in your head before it happens on screen. I am not a fan. The ending was nice though.
The Shining (1997)
I choose this one!
I do not like Kubricks adaptation, in large part because I do not care for the casting of Jack and Wendy - the former is crazy from the get go and the latter over acts like there is no tomorrow. This version has great actors and follows the GREAT book. It has a bad rap, but is really good. Give it a chance!
Bring It On (2000)
My go-to feel good movie!
Watched it a bunch of times and still love it! Sassy actors, pretty filming and cool cheering! What's not to love??
History of Horror (2018)
This is for all us horror nerds out there!
Fun, insightful and interesting. You can see the participants love for the subject, and the vast amounts of knowledge they have I love this!! Thank you, Eli Roth!
Don't Peek (2020)
Creepy and well made
Certainly got my pulse up!! Fellow swede David Sandberg got his break doing shorts and I predict the same future for Terry!
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Great cast
The cast is the best with this movie - great all around but I really liked Harry Mellings portrait of a lunatic reverend. Funny to see two ex-Harry Potter actors doing something like this!! I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. Religion truly is a source of evil sometimes.
The World's End (2013)
The mint cornetto!
Maybe the weakest in the trilogy bit still great. The actors interact brilliantly and Wrights work as director is great. Simon pegg is wonderful as the man who has his best time behind him. Look out for familiar faces (the girlzombie from Shaun ... at the AA meeting for example). Lots of easter eggs!!
