Shôgun: A Dream of a Dream (2024)
why?
I loved the original Shogun, I loved the whole asian series and I loved reading them and enjoying the trip. But this Shogun, it was far from trhe writers idea of Shogun, so much was left out that was in the first movie, bits and pieces that would have made for awesome spinoffs if wanted to. There is no "war" scenes, there is a buildup and suspense and then it fizzles out in the last part of the series.
The movie the story, the book has such potential to be pure awesomeness with ninjas, samurai, honor and betrayal, but for some reason the writers have left out major parts of the storyline, the love affair between anjin and mariko, the long trip to Osaka, the underlying friendship that develops between martin and anjin, and between Omi and Anjin, but it goes into others political and other parts that would make for awesome suspense yet it never develops. It touches, tantalizing upon those things but never delves deeper.
If story writers for the new Shogun wanted to step aside and do other things then develop truly more storyline, more of the character building aside.
But no, it is as if story writers flitter around like butterflies never truly settling in on any of the book story or the new story, just hinting.
There was so much potential in this that got wasted.... pity
But give credit where credit is due, set aside from the book story or the old shogun story this was a masterpiece of film, hence it gets 5 stars, not more, because it should been more, it should been honoring the legacy that asian series carried.
Star Trek: Discovery: Face the Strange (2024)
time loops etc
While this episode was fun to watch it felt rushed, it felt like it was not planned for completely, it was a hot mess of all things put together. I little more planning would have been nice or make the story into a few episodes.
There was many oopsies in this episode, among them Tilly, the time jump should been recorded while in season 2 or 3 because the Tilly we saw now was not anything like the Tilly in the season 2 or 3.
Also it started the episode 15 years earlier, so in other words they could not figure out even first clue until 15 years later..??
It was instead a "FEELGOOD" episode that ended in where they started, so in storyline it pushed the story maybe 2 inches, not good unless planning on spending a ton of episodes developing the story somewhat further.
So unlike season 2 (the best season hands down) this was dissapointing.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
It is awesome but for one details that ruins it
The movie is awesome, even with the changed from book to movie or the old movies to the new movie. I enjoyed the part two very much except one major flaw. Chani was devoted to Paul, yet in this movie they portray her as being doubtful, hesitant even to the border of being rebellious against him. That is a flaw that taints the movie greatly. Other than that, I could live with the fact they suddenly all had that shielding, that was suppose to be attreides secret weapon, or the fact they used atomics, it did not fit in the movie in my mind. Also that the voice module was gone and not even mentioned.
Fallout (2024)
so awesome, so stoked
I been long time player of the games, LOVING every scary moment and laughed with every corny joke, loving the music. I was scared when I learned there was going to make a series of it specially when its launched on Prime, they usually gut everything out of a series and make it watered down nothingness.
Not this time, it was everything one could expect, awesomeness , storyline, drama , scary ghouls etc.
The only thing I am somewhat sceptical to is the distance.... how could one walk from philadelphia to los angeles or new las vegas in matter of minutes, it should take weeks. But thats just the one tiny remark thats making it not 10/10.
1923 (2022)
How long does it take to cross the Atlantic?
I truly love the 1883 and the storyline that went along with it, it was awesome, but this dragging on in 1923 is boring to be honest, they decide to spend half the season in the crossing that normally takes maybe 2-3 weeksa then. But here, it drags on and on and on, by the time they make it to America I am sure they settled half the country already and nobody remember the Duttons that was suppose to come and rescue them.
1883 had a pace to it, it was something "new" in most episodes, it did not drag on and on and on about the same thing all the time.
This time the creators have stuck on a storyline and probably will rush the ending in the last 2 episodes, he will arrive like the second coming of Christ only to find he is no longer needed.
BAH!! Only reason this gets even half the decent stars is the acting, the storyline itself can suck it...to slow and to boring.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
A hot mess of molasses
First and foremost, this is definately up to par with P. J. Hibbit nor Lord of the Rings, the whole storeytelling was off on so many ways that it was hard to even get a grip.
When a storyteller tries to tell to many stories at same time, it usually confuses the listener, this was what occured, this was like taking wheel of time jumps back and forth between continents and mizing it up into a jumble.
The storyprogress was slow, beyond belief slow. Like molasses.
Until the very last episode where the "great reveal" was to happen.
This was named the "rings of power" yet those rings happend only 10-20 minutes before the END of the season, this whole season wanted to much...
it wanted the mystery of who was the stranger
it wanted to tell the story how southlands became mordor
it was to much to tell the story of the "king of southlands" (which btw was obviously Sauron, cause who else would call himself "king of southlands")
it wanted to tell the story of the elven fights
of galariels story
of eldrons story
of friendship between elves and dwarfes etc
and it managed to take snipplets of each and mash into a big pile
of slow moving molasses, and it was to little of each part, to little
storytelling and to much forced pace just to keep up with the "ending"
It wanted so much in so little time and in the end rushes the whole
thing and became a mess of half canon half imagine-yourself.
Thats why 5, and thats even generous.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Why?
I am still wondering after seen this movie why it is always Thor
that the MCU is always wanting to makie ridicule.
From what I seen it is a joke from the Ragnarök movie and
its always more jokes and bad humor than there is serious storyline
in these movies. Even this one, from what i could see, there was
bad jokes galore and very little action
Compare this movie to for example the Avengers movies and this
movie is a joke, a bad joke.
I suggest movie makers go and ponder how they can get more
serious about the Thor branch and less make this a ongoing jokefest.
Mayans M.C.: When the Breakdown Hit at Midnight (2022)
Like chewing old gum...
After wathing the last episode I am left with a feeling
like "is this all?".... its like revving and engine all season long
and teasing with a good war between SoA and Mayans, and then when
it finally seems to get to the good parts...the season is over.
Who plans these things? I could do less with the flittering of
non-mayans people and concentrate more on developing the storyline
on the main people.
To me this was like chewing old gum, it tastes good first few hours
but after 10th hour of building and building it is not worthwhile anymore.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Ghosts of Illyria (2022)
Yes please moar more and moaaaarrrr
So this is the way I love Star Trek , get to know the characters, developed personal arcs and a awesome storyline in basics. This is what Disco was until they jumped in time, after that it kind of wanted to much and delivered a mess.
Keep this up and don't let anyone push for faster progress or anything, enjoy the stories told, each episode grows more and more, it is a clear winner.
The Northman (2022)
another shakespear clone...
Sons of Anarchy had it....
Now it is with a vikings twist...
its nofun when you know its a clone and you know the ending already.
Film creators.... PLEASE...get some original ideas of your own instead of borrow from Shakespear.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Why could Discovery be this good?
I am at awe at how god these 2 (so far) episodes have been, it is better and better storytelling, it is suspense, a GOOD introduction to the crew, facinating events, and a red thread that actually makes sense.
So why did Discovery become as good as this? It had the BEST ending ogf seasons when they jumped into the future but then it become so fractured and wanting so bad to be something new it has become stuck.
Even the uniforms and the way Enterprise looks is far superior to what Disco did with its "future"
Keep on this path and many many more seasons of thrilling storytelling because
THIS
IS
AWESOME.
F9 (2021)
How did we get here?
First of all, the reason to watch Fast movies has always been around the world of street racing and the relationship in the "family", the loyalty and the love each and everyone feels for the other.
In this movie, it is all about action for the sake of action, it tries so hard to one up the last Fast movie that it goes to insane and in the end ridicolous threads.
1. a car would never never never survive going throughg earths atmosphere, it would burn up like nothing.
2. the unrealistic parts of this movie goes to extremes when they then later decide to ram a satelite, something that woiuld require a WHOLE lot of thrust and then not to mention in space things are pretty much never standing still so pushing it with the car would probably only get it to bump and move.
3. Storyline....it was so weak and tried so hard that it measured up to a weak cup of tea compared to the mocca that first few movies was. There was not real "feel" to the way the story evolved, it was more like add this and add that and patch it together.
In the end, it is an action movie and action there was a lot of, and humor, that is why it is 3 stars and not 1 star
Conclution: It was not worth the 15 euros to see it, and the movie makers are ruining the spirit of the Fast stories, they sell out to action cause of action part rather than go with a thick and actionfilled storyline, it feels rushed and it feels as if there is no soul in this.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
I miss Christopher Lambert, but decent movie
Action was good, storyline a bit thin and rushed, fights was decently and fun, all in all as stand alone it was not a waste of time, but it had the potential to be so much more, it felt like what it was, a reboot so it could follow up with series. And I miss CL as Rayden, he did an amazing Rayden.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
did I just watch ghostbusters female version...again?
Ummm, yeah, here is the problem, this movie WAY over feminists things, it is not up to par with a DC movie at all, it is starting to go good with the new releases but this is just....a bad dream? This is Ghostbusters (2016) remade into some perverted DC copy with some storyline added for matching HQ. This is not the kickass-girlpower-punch-them-in-the-face we met in Suicide Squad, this is a watered down lacking in imagination copy with fluff added. so only good thing is that it is so bad it is humerous at points. but thats all.
Vikings: The Best Laid Plans (2020)
Astonishing, hasty, not well written....
The entire last season seems rushed, hasty, not very well written, not like the story of Ragnar and with the way Lagatha dies in this whole season, it seems rushed to me, like the writers and makers did not truly care if it was well done, or well written just that it ended.
I wished for a fuller storyline and not so much rushing...and ofc to know what happens after this, but alas it was said it is the last season so, afaik it is all just a dream...
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
How about a history lesson....?
This utter garbage is a bunch of rehashed, rerun, watered down reruns without end. There is nothing really "new" in this at all, sure the technology is a bit newer, the Terminator is a bit new with some interesting additions. The storyline is boring, without life, without anything redeeming qualities, it is to be a waste of my time to watch this and to be honest, the studio should repay the people their money for watching this.
They had an oportunity to continue after Genisys, to create something new. But some smuck, whoever makes the call, said they wanted to continue from T2, but instead of continuing, they write some storyline that deserves at best to be a spinoff, not the main movie.
Just an example, when they encounter "carl" everyone except Sarah seems more than willing to trust what is a Terminator, not even a reprogrammed Terminator, but the actual one that killed John Connor. Yet, nobody of them except Sarah seems to blink , instead they tell her to stand down, to be calm etc. This after being chased by the "bad guy" of the movie and knowing first hand what a Terminator does.
another example, the protector, I would not call her girl or woman or augmented queen b***h, she is more than willing to do nothing but hide in a cave in middle of nowhere until when? NONE of them thought about finding out where this new Legion was being built and stop it there, instead they rehash what happend in T1 and T2.
I don't get whats with these reboots, they are even worse than the old saying that sequels sux, this is even worse, this is not even a B movie, its not even worth to call a spinoff.
I am dissapointed in the director and story crew, this was a utter waste of time.
Hamilton (2020)
Utter puke!!!
Hamilton had the potential to be an asskicking nametaking punch in the face king of series. Instead it has become nothing more than a watered down continuation of swedish cop series. If you seen Wallander or Beck, you basically seen hamilton already.
It does not introduce anything new, it does not even work on the great storyteller jan guillou's very awesome characteristics.
So far, after 3 episodes it is boring, it is on the verge of being more interesting than playing on my cellphone.
I would not recomend this to anyone except maybe those that can not sleep because this is as boring as it gets.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
A clear time difference...
So I finally watched this movie after reading and studying everyone elses reaction.
and I got to say this... there should be 2 ratings for this title. the movie rating, rating this as the movie itself and the rating for how it fits the Star Wars saga.
For the first part, the movie, it seems so crammed all into one, it rushes from one story arc to the next without any resolution to most story arcs. It seems to want to end everything in the main story arc, I would say this is a mistake, should have been made into 3 parter where every story arc is developed, enjoyed. But apart from that its action from start to end, so I give this a 8 as a movie.
Forst the Star Wars saga, sadly it respects very little of the story, it rehashes things and it is predictable, something the original series was not as much as this. The only good thing was that it actually obeys some of the rules of the force, I can't say more without spoilers. So I give this a weak 6 or a strong 5 as part of the saga
It is all about choises, you are who you are but that does not define you, what you do with the things you have is what defines you and that the movie has relayed beutifully although hectically.
All in all, it was an captivating movie and it is with sadness that it ends.
Angel Has Fallen (2019)
Enough with the harsh lemon eaters...
This movie delivers on what it suppose to do.
It has a plot, yes it is very predicatble
but then so again is every movie released.
There is only maybe a handful of movies that I know that totally
goes off the reservation and ends in an anti climax or reversed climax
or however you wish.
This is a "safe" movie, it goes as it should, what is new is the way this is
presented, nobody thinks about that, for example the tech things in this, it is
a warning because it COULD happen, take note of that.
How it ends and the point A to point B is entertaining, it tells a story
and it is what its suppose to be.
Its no masterpiece opf Shawshank Redemption but it delivers fun and that
is why its very watchable.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
if this is the next phase, then I am worried
After Endgame there was much talk of the next phase of the Universe.
And if this is any signs of the way things are going to be then
yes, I am worried. Compare this to Black Panther, storyline in BP was
captivating, and kept you on your toes all the time, this new spiderman feels
little lukewarm. Don't get me wrong, as a movie it was decent, but as part of
the universe this was lackluster at best.
The character development was slow, the way the story arcs of the persons
in this story was like it could not decide if it was drama, action, romance, or
teen or whatever is in between so it mixes them together, and add a little comedy
to it and to me that mix was a brainless mixture of wannabes that never develop into
anything.
At the same time as I would have loved the character stories to be more developed
I am seriously hoping they would never do that because of the boredom that would
entail.
This was a teen movie, that maybe entertains teens, but to a more mature
MCU viewer this was not worth the money and I truly hope the creators get their
stuff together and creates something better in the next movie.
2036 Origin Unknown (2018)
Not worth the time
This is a bad bad attempt to see into the future with a twist.
A mix between 2001 and 2010 and then add some machines goes
wild and war on earth etc and then suddenly you got the machine
from outer space etc, the story is good until the last 20-30 minutes
where it seriously goes off the track. and leaves many questions unanswered.
From the trailers it looked to be a good movie, but, meeeh, it really skips many things. such a leaving the viewer to figure out just how everything happend.
Not to my liking.
Black Panther (2018)
Marvel at it best....
I seen all the Marvel Universe movies and I can easily say this title was the one that surprised me most, I went into this thinking this would be a boring chapter of the MU but was surprised, this was more meaningful, more storyline, more history of the character etc than any other title.
I was pleasantly surprised and even after watching it prob 15 or 20 times I still enjoy the movie and can not wait for further development from this.
Easy 10 from me.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Seriously, stop with the Twilight Copies.....
So I read the reviews and people said give the title a shot and it gets better.
I got into 7 episodes of sher madness, its insanely just a copy of twilight.
girl finds super powers
girl falls inlove with the hero
ofcourse girl has someone that loves her
of course the two males collides
of course there is a gay person in love with another etc etc etc
its just putting Twilight into a cup of PC and putting the blender on.
after the 7th episode of this teenager rampage love here and vampire and demon etc there and the storyline is so thin that this should remained only a movie
not a tv series that took 7 hours of bungyjumping back and forth to get to there
it is.
No folx, if you liked Twilight, watch it again or read the books.
DO NOT waste your life with this junk, it stretching out the storyline of the
movie and adds nothing new at all.
7 episodes of this is enough for me, this is so bad of a ripoff of twilight.
Bright (2017)
a good pilot for a tc is all....
Boy this movie throws you for a loop or two.
First of all, no back story on how things became as they are.
Nothing to explain, just says we jumped ahead 2000 years or something like that
and suddenly every angel, fairy, orc and gandalf(oops, wrong movie) was in the role. Naturally elves was magically the leader of everything and naturally the orc was the grunts on the ground. So what in heavens name does the producers want? For us to jump in every hoops they offer and just say "oh well thats the way it would have been". and then plots and twists and ofc you know the guys is the hero/antihero/hero can't decide what.
This is such a mixup and this movie , if anything, serves best as an pilot for a tv series than anything else, it leaves so many questions unanswered and it basically begs for a sequel or something.
No thank you, I think Will Smith's outages into space and aliens and outwords etc has gone to far when it comes to fairies and magical creatures.
someone needs to stop eating their magically delicious snacks cause this... was not worth the money to be honest.
Code Black: Better Angels (2018)
Take it for real people....
Take the warning this episode for real.
I love Code Black, it is so vibrant and alive and every storyline is essential. I could spend hours speaking of them all, but I just rather say, it is awesome
