A great satire to the horror genre
9 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Superficially, this movie seems to be another horror movie, full of cliches, with classic monsters with nothing new to contribute, but in reality, it is a great satire to the horror genre, particularly to horror films of the 21st century. They give us clasic characters, like the promiscuous girl, the virgin girl, the athlete, fighting against the most classic monsters of all the monsters, the living dead (zombies). From the biginning, the film puts us in a place of remoteness, showing us that all that story is being controlled by a "company", so that we are never completely immersed in the characters reality. These men who control this horror story constantly address the audience in a subtle way, implying that the whole thing is a mere entertainment product for the masses. At the same time, they show us that the entertainment is always the same, you can simply change the physical space where it takes place and the monster, and people will buy into it. Throughout the movie we see some good quotes (that make horror film fans smile) to genre classics, such as Evil Dead, or to sub-genres as the Slasher. In the end, we can see how the world collapses since the expected end was not fulfilled, noting that people always want to consume the same garbage that the genre has been offering for years, but at the same time, reiterating that this type of film (not "The Cabin in the Woods", but the garbage horror films of all these last years) is the reason why the genre is frowned upon. Highly recommended for all lovers of horror films.
