Poldark: Episode #2.1 (2016)
Ho-hum
Having seen the original Robin Ellis "Poldark" in 1975, this story line is near and dear to my heart. I was fairly pleased with the first season of the new Poldark, but having now watched the first 2 episodes of Season 2, I am reminded of why I don't drink herbal tea - it looks like the real thing, but it has no substance. Long shots and close-ups of people staring out to sea pad the overlong episodes; Ross and Demelza seem wooden in this new season, depending on facial expressions that would befit silent film actors; Elizabeth seems incapable of doing or saying much, only staring at everyone with her mouth open, like she's the village idiot. I want to root for Francis, but he just can't get out of his own way; George is such a one-dimensional villain as to seem like a cardboard cutout; and the writing simply lumbers along. I feel badly for this cast of talented actors, but not badly enough to continue watching the series.
