Biosphere (2022)
Waiting for Godot goes inside
For those who like the stage play "Waiting for Godot", the interplay between the characters is the purpose of the play. However, having watch this abomination of a movie, I cannot get past the most horrific scripting and the attempt by both actors to bring it to life!
Now, I would love to tell you the positive sides of this film, but I think the fish have better lines than the two actors. I don't think the premise is bad, but the repetition of "dude" not only annoying, it is insulting to one's intelligence! If you are going to have a 'Godot' style movie, take the time to actually have a decent script. Also, have the actors try to deliver it so we believe it.
Finally, the set- if they planned the biosphere, and they knew it was going to be used, it would be bigger and a better office, kitchen, privacy toilet and two bedrooms (at least)!
Is this a film to watch and enjoy. No!
Dangerous (2021)
Well, that was...
Sometimes, your expectations don't meet your realities of a film. I could say 'Dirty Harry meets poor acting' but that is pedantic. Let's say, weak storyline meets even weaker acting.
Scott Eastwood did what he could. But what were Gibson and Janson doing? They were obviously second directors fodder. And, why use a set from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (no spoilers here). Leave it to say that it may not meet expectations.
Now, the support actors need help. Find someone to remove all the wood from your performances. You all may have Movie contracts, but so did Randolph Scott, and no one remembers him.
And, now there are rumours of a sequel. Hold on to that thought. There are eight Sharknados!
The Luminaries (2020)
Left in the Dark
A BBC period drama comes with expectations. Costumes, location, cast and storyline. Sometimes, it works well, and other times, one of these are left out, and it fails. This time, it fails in many ways...
I cannot fault the locations, except, for a boom town, it is really clean. The costumes look not from a 19th century mining location, but, well, the laundromat. The cast of extras are in the ten's and twenties, not hundreds, which betrays the rules! Can you imagine walking at night in this timeframe? I would imagine it wasn't all that safe. Also, using the same locations over and over ruins the mystery!
The cast did their best. There are some very interesting performances, but the script moves so slowly, or the timeline jumps around so much, it is hard to follow. It will is so slow, it would have been better over three episodes, not six!
Finally, the storyline. By now, who knows the story...I was left in the dark for this one...
Tin Star: The Unseen (2019)
Will you please get on with it...
I have endured this season. I have watched all the twits and turns, yet, unlike Oliver Twist, I am not sure I want more.
Each episode seems to contain a montage, oh, followed by another Montage, and you guessed it, another one. The cinematography is stunning, but does there need to be a slow motion seires followed by, yes you guessed it, moments of each character has looks of anguished contemplation?
This story line could have been just as effective over four episodes...
