Skidoo (1968)
Unimaginably bad
I am a lifelong Groucho Marc fan.
His role is little more than a cameo appearance.
There is a slew of celebrities in this flick, but ...
There is not a laugh to be found that could get a chuckle to an adolescent.
It is one of the dumbest movies that you can waste your time on.
The level of acting is embarrassingly weak.
The storyline, theme, plot, etc. is childish.
It seems that the producers/directors etc. had hardly any idea re" "hippies" There is token breasts revealed, but they are on two (2) "hippy girl's" breasts replete with finger-paint.
The only saving grace is just how short the movie is.
The Sci-Fi Boys (2006)
Excellent Documentary on the genesis of early Sci-Fi films.
The Correct name of that periodical was "Famous Monsters of Filmland." Much like the movie makers in this documentary, I too (genuinely) looked forward to each monthly issue.
This documentary is an oral history enhanced with "out takes" galore.
Half a century later I can still recall some of the great photos spreads that lied within. I can recall the actual smell of those slim glossy 8.5" x 11" magazines. I used to roll up the current issue and carry it about half-stuffed in my back pocket when they were still new. That was the essence of hipness as a pre-pubescent adolescent. That was in the 1950's. Aaargh ! Now you know that I am a grizzled old codger.
The older that one grows the greater the cachet memories have. More than you youngsters can imagine. Seeing this flick was a quasi- divine experience as I could relate to it so deeply. I recorded it via TIVO natch'

average flick
Basically the movie is a slick Hollywood production, exactly as you would expect; and that is not always a bad thing as throwing money at a film project is generally a good idea. Much of the acting is satisfactory. Kevin Spacey is a good actor. It was filmed at "Planet Hollywood" in Las Vegas, which until recently was the "Alladin". The problem is that this movie has about as much resemblance to (Card Counting / Blackjack / Casinos) as Johnny Depp's portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow's does to the real mouth- breathing knuckle-dragging seaborne psychopathic Neanderthals that we called pirates. I prefer my movies to be realistic if that is what they claim they are. It annoys me when that is not the case.
