Awesome movie. I'm glad I watched this movie it was entertaining but it's not a perfect thriller, but it will make me seriously rethink my next Airbnb rental.

Does not make me want to sail the ocean blue!

Based on a true story. A bittersweet tale of high seas adventure, based on a true story. Worked well with flash backs to the back story. Well paced with excellent performances. Outstanding performance from Shailey Woodley. I can't imagine being lost at sea for that long, a total nightmare.

Roy Orbison: Love Hurts (2017 TV Movie)
Great
21 February 2019
I have always loved Roy Orbison's beautiful voice. I really enjoyed this documentary, it is the work of Roy's three sons and home movies are involved. It's interesting and very touching, Roy's sons seem lovely. They are clearly devoted to Roy, and vice-versa.

Roy did seem a genuinely nice guy. Hard to fathom such cruel fate could visit one person. So much sadness for him to bear and then he was taken far too soon.

Roma (2018)
Slow. Painfully slow.
21 February 2019
I really like this movie's style, but am I the only person who found it boring? Very little happens and it takes its time not happening. I think maybe the director just made up a lot of the scenes as he went along.

There are really bizarre moments, like the dog poop scenes, the astronaut moment, the guy singing to the camera, and the naked guy doing martial arts, Mostly, it is really slow. There are long, extended shots of people walking up stairs, turning off lights, washing floors and dishes, and doing mundane tasks. The dialogue was mainly chit-chat. I don't understand why this won the Oscar. If this is "Art" I will pass. but hey It's a free country...:D

The Room (2003)
Cinematic Masterpiece
9 December 2017
'The Room' is in a class of its' own. It's the only movie from the 21st Century to live up to every fragment of its hype.

Brilliant! Tommy Wiseau is a visionary. The dialogue makes no sense, but it's hysterical. "I did not hit her, it's bull-sh** I did not! Oh hi Mark. You are tearing me apart Lisa. I didn't know it was you. Hi doggy. Keep your stupid comments in your pocket. Anyway how's your sex life?

From the hilarious quotes, to the misguided script, the football and the chickens. It's bad. VERY bad, but there is something endearing about this movie. Trust me, you have got to check this out. It's a must-see.

It's one of the greatest epic masterpieces in the history of cinema. 10/10

Mrs. Brown (1997)
Great movie
1 December 2017
Judi Dench and Billy Connolly are great in this movie. Judi Dench is always great! She deserved an Oscar for this. It was nominated, and it was one of the finest performances of all time.

If you are expecting this film to be a romance than skip it. It's about the extraordinary man with the ordinary name of John Brown who brought a Queen out of mourning, and how their relationship leads to scandal in Britain.

I found watching Young Victoria before Mrs. Brown to be useful and insightful into the eyes of Queen Victoria and her love for Albert. There is no character actually named Mrs. Brown in 'Mrs. Brown,' and was sad what happens to John at the end, but it was an awesome movie.

The Circle (I) (2017)
Surreal topic
21 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
George Orwell's "1984" comes to mind. The cast listing makes you stop and take notice. The Circle tries deliver a relevant message for today's world. This definitely presents a darker side of social media and people's obsession with it. The concern for internet privacy is an important issue, but the script is thin, and unconvincing. As someone who read the book, this was kind of disappointing.

Side note: She's dumb for volunteering for the experiment. Three minutes to drop a dookie?! Reminded me of a lifeless version of The Internship in a way.

Cool mystery thriller
15 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First off, I've taken this very train line many times and it's based on an actual NY route, but you cannot see in the houses and you don't see any people from it.

It is hard to review this movie without giving away spoilers. I enjoyed the movie and I also enjoyed the book, and for me they are two very different experiences.

The script writing is taken word by word from the Paula Hawkins novel. The great cast serves the book justice.

Emily Blunt should get a 10 for her stellar performance of an extremely troubled woman and severe alcoholic who fantasizes about a couple that she sees while riding the train to work.

Her character isn't sympathetic or even compelling. There's no reason to believe a woman like Blunt would still be obsessing over some loser.

The critics have been really hard on this movie and its another example of me briefly questioning my own taste and realizing I don't really care. Over all, I was totally engrossed watching it

Lame movie
14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The movie goes downhill pretty fast and just left me feeling bored and slightly troubled. It's a movie about the Amanda Knox murder case about which many people have strong feelings. Only it's not really about the Amanda Knox murder case. The movie starts out and ends up dedicated to the memory of murder victim Meredith Kercher, but just winds up being all about the unraveling of a depressed director. He has an affair. He snorts a lot of cocaine. He reads a lot. He has a lot of crazy nightmares.

For me it was a complete nonstarter. I still don't get what it was about. Lets just say 'The Face of an Angel' goes round in circles and winds up getting nowhere. The movie was really boring and the story didn't make a lot of sense. Good acting but a cast of shallow characters you won't care about. As the plot moves forward the movie loses its thread more and more

Masterminds (2015)
War between dumb and dumber
21 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I cracked up from the get-go watching this crazy funny screwball comedy. I went to see this movie with my two best friends. We couldn't stop laughing. The lively energy keeps it moving with quirky humor. It's Coen Brothers meets Farrelly Brothers.

The movie is based on real events. The 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery in Charlotte, North Carolina, but it's really about how a bunch of dopes somehow lifted over $17m in cash. Great cast, Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis are especially funny, but I got a big kick out of Jason Sudeikis and the awesome Owen Wilson too. And who can ever forget Kate McKinnon as Ghantt's fiancée, the over-medicated Jandice.

Armored car driver hillbilly "dumb guy" David Ghantt, with a beauty of a Dutch-boy haircut, delivers some gross-out gags when he accidentally shoots himself in the butt at a firing range and poops in a swimming pool — Eewww! Totally gross. Ghannt is played by Zach Galifianakis – who skips to Mexico to wait for the heat to die down, and that's when the infighting begins. Of course it is dumb, but it's a comedy, so what do you expect? All comedies work with dumb jokes. If you don't like dumb jokes, then you need to watch a different type of comedy.

Lust For Life
8 February 2017
This movie is much better than I expected. I don't have much interest in haute couture, but I was gripped and the clothes whether on the catwalk or just in general were to die for. It's an awesome and skillfully made biopic that's really addictive and captures Yves Saint Laurent crazy life and pure genius as a self-destructive artist in a beautiful way.

In a career spanning fifty years YSL changed women's fashion, but at the movie's core is Saint Laurent's emotional passion, and the dynamics of the love story between him and Bergé. Lets say there wasn't too much loyalty in the bedroom but the movie sure captures the story of the tortured genius and the partner who kept him on track.

The movie is beautiful in every detail and the acting is exceptional throughout. Pierre Niney is outstanding as Laurent. He' s a freaking talented actor and I cannot believe that Yves himself would have been disappointed with the portrayal. His performance really made me feel for the guy. Guillaume Gallienne and Charlotte Le Bon are awesome too. I highly recommend this movie. There is something about French movies, even when they're not awesome, they're still great ☺

Zodiac (2007)
Just plain dull
29 November 2016
It's eternally fascinating to see what folks will do for dollars. Right from the start, the movie is laughable and ridiculous schlock.

In The Box a financially struggling family in 1976 are given a weird box and told they have 24 hours to decide if they will press the button on the box that will result in them getting 1 million dollars and the death of somebody completely unknown to them.

The Box takes a premise, muddles it up and makes it completely ridiculous. The movie tries to tackle the big themes of human nature and our place in the universe but it never delivers. The actors are fine, but the weak plot is blotted by an unbearably slow pace

This creepy thriller movie too is way too confusing for kids and just plain horrible for adults. Still, most kids won't want to bother figuring out the movie's dark themes and plot, so do yourself a favor, think twice about giving into curiosity and leave The Box's button untouched it's so bad, it's funny.

Should have won the Oscar
3 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Exit Through The Gift Shop breaks the mold. It blows all other movie-docs out of the water. The creators treated it not only as a documentary but also as a work of art. It raises many questions about the commercialization of art.

Even when you think you've figured this out, you can't shake the notion that maybe you haven't. Right when you start to think that it's slowing down, it picks up again. It's totally excellent at many levels and should have won the Oscar it was nominated for.

The movie takes a sideways look at Banksy and the explosion of street artists in LA. It's a hilarious look at the stupidity of art worshipers and a very interesting study into the modern art world and what exactly "art" is. As entertainment, the movie works very well.

No director or screenwriters are listed in movie's credits, just the words "A Banksy Film". Banksy is a big deal in the art world.. He's a whip-smart British street artist who became world famous without giving up his true identity. I consider him as a personal hero.

Rhys Ifans is a great narrator, his calm voice makes for an awesome delivery. This movie deserves multiple viewings. This is the only movie you need to see about street art. Even if you don't give a damn about street art, see it

Deadpool (2016)
Beyond Awesome
25 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Deadpool is a hugely entertaining motion picture. I admit that the comic universe is not something I'm completely familiar with and I knew nothing about the character before I saw the movie but that didn't matter because plain and simple, I can tell you it's beyond awesome. Even the opening credits are pretty darn brilliant, great action and lots of humor, with some meta-laugh out loud moments, it kept me hooked right up to the end. Even the scene after the end of the credits is hilarious.

Behind the humor, this movie is a dark, violent flick with a sadistic heart. If your looking for a great family movie to see, look somewhere else because Deadpool is not for kids. It's about a ex-special forces soldier who is now an underworld mercenary. He finds a screwed-up girlfriend and they have lots of kinky sex. When he discovers he has cancer, he accepts a shady offer from a weirdo who says he can help.

The movie is all about Ryan Reynolds. It stands or falls on him. Luckily for us, this was the role that Ryan Reynolds was born to play, he nailed it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Keeping Rosy (2014)
The Most Thrilling of Thrillers
24 September 2016
I really enjoyed this awesome British movie. Without getting into spoilers, there's a massive, oh- my-Gosh twist in the first 10 minutes that sets in motion a crazy and tragic chain of events.

Awesome acting from Maxine Peake, her self-absorbed character makes it hard to root for her, but she grows more likable as she gets more desperate, and I found myself willing her on. This tense and electrifying movie is outstanding in some areas, hard to watch in other places but I guarantee you that with all the plot twists it stays gripping from beginning to end, and doesn't let go for a second.

Keeping Rosy has an awesome plot, and cool acting performances, but it seems strange that there wasn't more hype surrounding this electrifying movie, it should have been a breakout success. Go see it if you can

Always Copied - Never Bettered
24 September 2016
This documentary is an awesome tribute to an icon and musical genius. I was fascinated to watch this. I wanted to know more about David Bowie as a person not just an enigma and if you're a fan of Bowie, you're sure to find it enjoyable like I did.

When David Bowie's death was publicized, it sent shock waves through the world. What a loss. There is no doubt he left Planet Earth a richer place than when he entered it, but I found the focus and insight into Bowie's early life the most intriguing part of this documentary.

I admit I found some aspects of Bowie's early years surprising. Mary Finnigan who supported him during his early career, (she was his landlady and then his lover) gives a very engaging interview. She talks about her horror when Bowie shamelessly moved his future wife Angie into her apartment. But she also talks about his epic talent and their financial struggles during those early years. To make ends meet, they formed a folk club and went on to hold a music festival in the park.

Bowie's childhood friend Dana Gillespie delivers fascinating stories about their teenage years spent together and his detached relationship with his family. Dana dated Bowie and later worked with him, singing the backing vocals on Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album

There's a heartfelt story with David Bowie's childhood friend George Underwood, who punched him in the eye, and gave him his unique appearance. I was happy to find out they remained close friends until Bowie's death.

This feature length documentary has a wide collection of interviews with Bowie himself and I sure was surprised to learn he was a genius with finance on the business side too. If you're into David Bowie, watch this, you won't be disappointed.
