Dzhetlag (2021)
When distance draws closer
There are no two identical love stories. They all are unusual and differ in details. That's why romantic dramas and comedies are still popular with viewers, and they certainly won't go out of style anytime soon. So at the moment I want to speak of the new film 'Jetlag', which turned out to be a surprisingly interesting product.
Unlike most romantic comedies, which begin with an unexpected acquaintance, Jetlag begins with an argument. Zhenya and Nikita are too different and now it's time for drastic changes. The best decision that the couple could come up with is to break up right at the airport and leave in opposite directions. Zhenya heads to Berlin, Nikita to Thailand and it seems that their story has finally come to an end. Still, I do not advise you to jump to conclusions.
Sometimes, you don't really know what you're fighting for until you lose. So Zhenya and Nikita seem to have found new partners, but they are unable to destroy true love. Nikita is drawn to Zhenya, and vice versa. Let them have different characters and views on life, but the heart wants what it wants. Though before trying to be together again, the characters still have a lot to discuss.
This film is both drama and comedy. Like a real life is. This is how the film won me over. Here we see relationships that seem to be taken from the reality. Nothing theatrical, only situations and dialogues each one may face. Or maybe someone has already experienced something similar. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Therefore, this story will be interesting to the widest audience, as it has both touching moments and hilarious comedy episodes that cause a sincere smile.
If you are looking for a bright, interesting movie that can entertain well, then be sure to check out 'Jetlag'. The filmmakers have created a story that will surely resonate with your heart, and this is the most vital thing.
What Lies Below (2020)
Who the hell is he?
It's not so easy to surprise me with high-quality mystical or all the more horror movie, nevertheless, I still wanted to see "What lies below". The first thing attracted my attention to this picture was the involvement of Mena Suvari, one of the American Pie leading actresses. Furthermore, the trailer seemed quite fascinating and depressing in a good way to me. So it was necessary to get to what the director had prepared for us.
The movie setting is an isolated house located in a picturesque countryside. It's here that the daughter comes with her mum and mum's new boyfriend. It's getting so that there'll be a wedding anytime soon, but the girl is not happy at all with this situation.
Liberty, the protagonist, starts to suspect that her potential stepfather is not who he claims to be. Moreover, even more, there are numerous tip-offs that he conceals his true appearance, and this cannot but cause anxiety in the girl who needs to save both herself and her mother from the threat.
You watch the movie with interest from the first to the last minute. There are many unexpected, completely unpredictable moments, and I can say that you definitely cannot predict the ending. And it's really cool, as I'm frankly tired of the mystical genre films are made like a blueprint.
Okay to sum it up: "What lies below" ranks among movies enduring tension and intrigue till the end. You should definitely have a look at the story if you, like me, wish real fear-provoking movies were on the big screens but not numerous genre fakes.

The truth will be revealed
There probably ain't a single person, at least not of my age, who wouldn't have heard about this chilling event. 60 years ago, 8 guys and 2 girls - almost all students - went on a ski hike in Ural, but none of 9 who made it to the mountain called by the locals - the Dead Mountain -never made it to the final point. They all disappeared.
Months later their bodies were found, some of them had terrible injuries. They had their eyes and tongues torn out, their ribs were smashed, skulls - fractured. Who or what killed them is still an unsolved mystery... "Dead mountain" promises us to crack the puzzle.
Almost every character of the series has a prototype - a real person from that time. Even the First Russian President Boris Yeltsin gets a cameo - or more like an Easter egg appearance in ep.2. What is more, almost at the same time with them, he could also have gone on that ill-fated expedition but fortunately they ran out of places in the group. However, there are also two fictional characters (with a very touching love story) - KGB major, Kostin and pathologist, Katya.
Kostin examines the area while Katya examins the bodies. Kostin puts forward theories, and Katya is drawing his attention to the details that could lead us to the solution of the century's biggest mystery.
I quite enjoyed the series, and I will definitely watch it over to pay more attention to some important and intriguing details. So don't miss it! Watch and try to speculate about «Dead Mountain» events.
Epidemiya (2019)
Don't stay - run
Sinful I am - I adore films and series with zombies and monsters vs. ordinary people. I don't miss any worthy projects of this genre. And I love to look for and find more such projects - the weirder the better. We have already seen a lot on how viruses break out and kill people in the USA (World War Z) in the UK (28 days later) and even in Korea (Train to Busan). And then I got a chance to see the apocalypse roll out in Moscow - in the series called "Epidemia" (or To the Lake). Unfortunately (hope it's not a spoiler) - it has no zombies in it - yet it is so psychologically profound that very soon you start realizing that there is something even scarier than zombies - people brought to their extremes.
The first episode is pretty much packed with action, then the pace gets a bit slower - yet it did not ruin my impression of the film. In the first episode events evolve rapidly. Moscow is engulfed in flames of pandemic. The government looks helpless - and start faking the news and playing around with statistics. Virus is killing people really fast and transfers easily. There is no vaccine, no treatment protocol! The precious time to contain the epidemic is lost. Now the only thing the state can do - is to send out military forces to suppress protests on streets. The main characters of the series are: Sergey, his father - mathematician who has spent his life back in the USSR working on scenarios of how the viruses may spread in case of biological attacks and who persuades his son to act instead of hoping to sit through these bad times. Sergey has recently married his therapist Anna and helps her to raise her autistic son. But when the chaos begins, he risks everything and breaks into the quarantined Moscow to save his ex-wife and their little son. Together, ladened with their eccentric neighbors who tagged along without asking - they set on the rout towards the salvation point.
The series at first is set in Moscow and it's really worth watching the big megapolis trying to resist an apocalypse but at the end of the first episode the characters leave the city and start driving through the snowy and icy roads, fields and picturesque forests towards a distant lake hopping to find a shelter there. It is a long journey, sometimes scary and full of unpredictable encounters.
"Epidemia" is not just a thriller or a horror, but a real-life drama. I can recommend watching the series - especially in the context of current realities.

Bamboo forest calls!
Recently, cartoons are becoming more and more popular. Not only children but also adults gladly watch them on the big screen. Cartoons nowadays are made not only in large Hollywood studios but in Russian companies as well. And I' m glad to tell, that our artists polish their skills year after year and have already pleased us with a considerable amount of really memorable and vivid pictures. Now it was the turn of the "Big Journey", which, in my opinion, turned out to be superb.
The story begins with a stork, who, because of a small accident, sent the package to the wrong parents and the little panda found itself hundreds of kilometers from the place where it was supposed to be delivered safe and sound. However, you shouldn't worry about the baby... Well, maybe a little worry will do... Because the bear, called Mik-Mik swore to take it home, straight to China.
In general, the cartoon turned out to be positive and vigorous. A few years ago, there was already a cartoon with the title "Big Journey", but I want to say that the Russian version was even more fun than the American one. The plots are completely different, as well as impressions after viewing.
You will surely have something to laugh at, but do not forget that this story has its own lyrical part, and it cannot help but be touched, because there is nothing better when families are reunited and the time of the strongest embraces comes.
The "Big adventure" was great. It may be a little bit childish, but do not forget about who the cartoons are for. The younger ones will definitely be interested, although adults will not be bored either.
Foto na pamyat (2018)
The death follows them...
I honestly adore the horror films, and I try to watch all the best representatives of the genre. I prefer mystic to slashers - all those ghosts, demons and etc. Watching Russian horror film is always a kind of box of chocolates, as Forest Gump said, you never know what you're gonna get. It may be a fierce trash, and maybe a great picture better than many Hollywood ones. With the same feeling I started to watch Foto na pamyat. It's quite strange but this time it was the second variant. If I hadn't known, I wouldn't have thought that the film was Russian.
The plot is really very interesting. Polaroid camera killer is something new. It reminds of my beloved "Final destination" and "The ring". There was a lot of horror connected with photos as well. However here polaroid photos, giving such a nice retro flavor, are evil themselves. The main characters go on vacation and do not suspect what troubles await them ahead. Accident, misunderstanding where you are, the inability to call for help and as a result - overnight in the dark forest. Finding an old house nearby, they decide find some help there, it's empty since it was abandoned many years ago. Having searched the rooms, they find a camera inside and take a photo. Only no one knew that after that death itself would appear for boys and girls!
Here we have a good old house with squeaks and sounds, surrounded by a dark, ominous forest. In short, the most beautiful setting for a strong horror. The atmosphere of fear, cold and hopelessness created just perfect. The picture tells us that it is not a pretty good idea to touch old things, such as old camera.
The actors coped well with their task, although sometimes they overplayed a little bit. I especially liked Sanjar Madi. He is quite a nice guy, and as it turned out to be quite talented.
In general, I am very pleased that I put that film on. It's nice when the movie is better than you hoped.
