Dora's Peace (2016)
10/10
Dora finds her humanity and faces her childhood demons when she finds herself having to protect a child from ruthless gangsters

I watched Dora's Peace last week at Cinema Nouveux in Rosebank. I was expecting the usual type of movie which comes under the genre of "Action" . I was pleasantly surprised. Although there was plenty of action there were tender moments too and even times when I laughed out loud just because something was either said or done that was "purely South African" Dora's Peace, filmed, created and produced in South Africa, is a fantastic movie depicting the mish-mash of cultures that makes South Africa so unique. It's refreshing to see a movie with such a strong lead actress fully embracing the trials and tribulations of survival on Hillbrow's mean streets. The movie takes you on a journey of discovery as Dora finds her humanity, faces her childhood demons and makes peace with them. In this I found the duality of the meaning, Dora's Peace, very symbolic. A definite must watch. Considering this was not produced with a Hollywood budget it receives 10/10
