Arrangiarsi: pizza... and the art of living (2017)
I loved this film so much!
It is such a moving, sincere and heartfelt story. I felt more like I was on the adventure rather than just watching a film. Nothing seemed orchestrated or written out. Having lived in the South of Italy, arrangiarsi was a way of life for me.. I just didn't know there was a word for it!
La slitta (2016)
A sensitive, heartfelt observation of childhood innocence..
Shot in the southern Italian region of Basilicata, "The Sled" follows Alfred, a child who lives with his family near an isolated village in the mountains. His parents have strong prejudices against immigrants. The couple often argues, leaving Alfred to feel isolated and lonely. One day, the boy ventures out on his own and meets another boy tending to his wooden sled. At first, the two youngsters clash but it doesn't take long for their childhood innocence to prevail over the prejudices of the adults. The two have an adventure sledding and playing on the snow-covered mountains while at home, the search begins to locate Alfred. The film shows the pure innocence of children before going out into the world and developing cynicism and biased opinions. I saw this film in the region in which it was shot in Italy. The members of the audience beamed with pride knowing such a tender story was made using the natural resources of their beautiful land. The director and actress Emanuela Ponzano did a fantastic job at portraying the boy's aloof and aggravated mother as well as bringing compelling performances out of all her characters. I highly recommend seeing "The Sled" if you have the opportunity.
