...And Justice for All (1979)
Robert Christian and Allisha Council
Great performance by Robert Christian as Ralph Agee. Unfortunately IMDB won't permit an upload of a screen shot of him. It's a shame such a magnificent performance goes unrecognized and the actor is pretty much forgotten and left in obscurity. I also have a screen shot of Allisha Council as Hooker. She had a very brief but impactful role. These roles really help to elevate the movie above the ordinary. After all these years this movie is still timely and I'm glad I had it in reserve after watching the first 30 minutes of John Wick: Chapter4. Really great performances by all involved. I just wish I could add photos to recognize some of the minor characters.
Office Space (1999)
Don't listen to the music
This is a funny, imaginative movie. I enjoy all the characters, Unfortunately the music is completely inappropriate and offensive. There are several names for this type of music and, although descriptive, I won't stoop to that level. It's hard not to hear the words no matter how much you try to concentrate on the characters or plot. I would've rated the movie considerably higher if not for the music. I have to wonder if there is a clean version available. Perhaps the music was added after the fact in order to ensure an R rating. It's a shame all the good of the film is negated by the music. Next time I'll watch this movie muted with CC on.
Father Ted (1995)
Warning: Laugh Track
I tried to watch this. I endured about 8 minutes of the first episode before I couldn't take any more. The laugh track is overbearing and annoying. Although I didn't get to know the characters my initial impression was they were seriously over acting. I'm sure as the episodes progressed everything improved but nothing can overcome that laugh track. I had to check twice regarding when this series was made because it seemed directly from the 1970's. I was really shocked to find out this series was from the mid to late 90's. I thought we had progressed further by then. I like British comedies. Unfortunately many are unwatchable due to their unnecessary, exaggerated laugh track. Such a shame.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Long and overrated
Typical movie of mother and children subjected to abusive, drunk male. As one member after another manages to escape this situation apparently they all forgot about the youngest and most vulnerable member of the family. Really hard to believe this would happen in real life therefore it undermines the plot of the entire movie. And the fire tower was new to her? As kids living there we would have been all over it. David Strathairn's rather pathetic attempt to channel Jimmy Stewart further distracts from the story. Slow and plodding at least the scenery is beautiful. Movie could be more enjoyable and effective if it lost 30 minutes.
Thirteen Lives (2022)
Academy Award Material
Long movie but reels you in quickly and holds you tight. This movie effectively recreates the tension while the world held its breath praying for the rescue of those boys. No need to go into more details. This movie is excellent. Has to be Ron Howard's finest achievement to date.
Exit Speed (2008)
Unintentionally Hilarious
This is what would have been the second or third feature at a drive-in. None of the characters are very smart which seems to be the attitude of the director toward Texans, motorcycle gangs, and bus riders. Quite a funny movie both in dialog and action although I don't think it was meant to be. Best if watched with a couple glasses of wine. Ludicrous, dumb, nonsensical. I enjoyed it.
