The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Meh!!!
What a waste of time this mini series is.. the only good thing about it was it's run time (20-30 minutes per episode). All the build up in the 7 episodes felt so useless when the "actual facts" are revealed in the final episode. There was some stuff that wasn't explained. Overall the effect dilates tremendously when the "mystery " is revealed.. Disappointing.
Delhi-6 (2009)
Great concept, messy screenplay
Directed by Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, Delhi 6 is a celebration of life of residents of a street in Delhi. The essence and premise of this movie is brilliant, but unfortunately the movie suffers a lot because of a messy screenplay which has too much to say in the time span of 2 hours and 20 minutes. The movie, on several occasions, talks to it's audience in an abstract manner ( for example: the concept of kaala bandar (monkey man) which is used as a connotation but it starts to test the audience patience after a while, mainly because of too much already happening in the movie). The casting was perfect, except the main leads. Abhishek bachchan and Sonam Kapoor were totally mis-cast. The other ensemble cast keeps the movie going with their good performances. Had the movie not have any forced tracks and songs, it would have been more captivating. This movie is for niche audience. It has depth and meaning to it which an average mind would not understand. Unfortunately a convoluted screenplay makes this movie a strictly below average watch.
Masoom (1983)
Two thumbs up.
Bollywood does come up with a movie every now and then which is ahead of it's time. Directed by Shekhar Kapoor, Masoom is one of them. It delicately deals with the relationship between a couple and how their lives turn upside down when a dark secret is surfaced. The beautifully crafted layers, captivating performances by each cast member, well structured story and an excellent screenplay and intelligent direction with memorable soundtrack and heartfelt dialogues make this movie a classic. It was released at the time when commercial cinema was dominating in Bollywood but it made it's everlasting impression and has aged like a fine wine.
Every character is so well structured and written that when u watch it, you cant help but empathize with each one of them. The boy who lost his mother and is alone in this world hoping to meet his father someday, you cant help but fall in love with him. The husband, who is torn between his family and the kid trying his level best to compensate for his mistake. The wife whose perfect world is shattered to pieces when she finds out about her husband's infidelity, yet keeps the child at her home because she had no other choice and then coming into terms with it. Every character is etched so beautifully. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you emotional but never it gives you any reason to hate any of them.
A brilliant masterpiece which should be watched by every movie buff..
Highly recommended
