Mystery 101 (2019)
Smart and believable
Finally a crime TV show that doesn't portray an annoying lead character that interferes with police work only because they're bored in their residential life and get too nosy. Here the professor's character is a confident grounded, calm person. Her chemistry with the police man is realistic, and not forced or overly done.
They are both clever people willing to adapt and grow, opposite some other TV shows where characters are stereotypes, stubborn. They learn to slowly know each other.
Dialogs are also good.
One other smart thing to do was to avoid making lots of movies only for the sake of it, so it remains interesting.
There are still some inconsistencies sometimes in the plots, but overall, it's a really good series that I have already re-watched a few times over the years.
Psych: The Break-Up (2014)
What a great finale!
What a great finale! And not sloppy!
I loved seeing these closure moments that were fun and not all over the top.
The last few scenes were so happy and fun. You could tell the actors were genuinely happy to work with each other.
It didn't feel like closure as some other shows do, but really like a new beginning. The fact that Gus embraced his new life and his love for his best friend was great.
The proposal was amazingly funny and embodied all the Psych universe with this « throuple » dynamic. I had seen this scene a long time ago out of context and without much enthusiasm, but this time after rewatching the entire show, it all made sense.
And the reference to Monk working for the San Francisco team was the last straw for me.
Thank you to the team for this light and loving series.
Psych: Right Turn or Left for Dead (2013)
Creative episode but...
The episode parallel events are creative. It is quite realistic that someone confronting an unpleasant event would redo reality in their head.
And contrary to other reviews, I do understand why Juliet is so upset. She did get more emotionally involved with Shawn than she was with the rich guy dated in season 6 (they love each other and live together) so it is believable that she would take it that seriously this time around.
However something bothered me in this episode, and it's the cliches about Swedish people and Europeans. Europeans who are presented as sexually opened whereas they're just normal people like in any country. Shawn's accent to pretend he's Swedish for example is a little offensive; he could be an expat without any accent (since many Scandinavians actually speak English very well) or even an American who wants a drink in a new bar.
This show is still great though!
