The Simpsons: Lisa's Belly (2021)
Wow. And ouch.
This episode made me cry. It's so well done, and casts light on an issue many women have faced in their lives. And to show it starting so young is amazing. To those that complained this episode wasn't "funny enough", not every sitcom is minute-by-minute laughs. They have serious episodes too.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
I think the problem here...
People were expecting a Tony Soprano story. It explicitly says "who made Tony soprano". Who made him? Gentleman Dickie Moltasanti. His last name means "many saints". The movie is about him and what happened to him. Not about how Tony came into power.
I enjoyed the movie when I realized what I was getting. Not a story about Tony.
A lot of the chars were spot on to their counterparts. Silvio kept making me laugh unintentionally with how spot on he was! And Vera Farmigia was perfect as Livia. I would love to see more of these movies. Silvio: the movie. Paulie: the movie. Big Pussy... well they'd have to name it something else haha.
My Dead Ex (2018)
Problematic as all hell
So a "will they or won't they" romantic comedy?! Really?
Guy asks girl out 56 times because he's desperately in love with her but she is not interested. She says yes just to stop him from keeping it up. After a disaster date, he dies. He dies while taking a selfie atop a billboard that he just tagged PROCLAIMING HIS LOVE FOR THIS UNINTERESTED GIRL. Then he comes back from the dead because of two cursed necklaces he got them when she and he were kind of sort of elementary school dating back when.
Why doesn't anyone see the issue here? Why is this labelled as a cutesy romantic comedy?! The boy should have stopped asking her out waaaay sooner because NO MEANS NO. It literally would have saved his life.
