Criminal Minds: Annihilator (2018)
i try not to hate people...
...but oh that is hard with this linda barnes character. I'm currently rewatching for the somethingth time, and this time i had to skip any episode with her in it. I get truly worked up and want to throw something at the screen every time i see her face or hear her voice.
In some cases, feeling this intense dislike for a character speaks to the actors' ability to act, but i fail to see anything remotely similar in her.
As someone said before me, they almost rage quit because of this character. I wonder if show runners sometimes put in abominable characters to make us thirst for the team dynamics we're used to.
There are limits, however. Linda barnes is just too horrible.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
i was sold when i saw the klingons
Being a fan of buffy from back in the day, i was very surprised when i found myself really liking "once more with feeling"; and this episode from snw also makes me feel the same: smiley and fuzzy warm, but at the same time into the story. Completely against my cynical will!
The music and singing is well done, and as has been mentioned, the story goes well with the music. And isn't star trek about all things unexpected?
But come on... the klingons just steal the show. My dog jumped up and looked shocked at my uproarious laughter.
I want more vulcan emotion from lower decks and more klingon boy band rapping in snw.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
apparently a vehicle for outrage amongst the righties
It's a show for teens, so why on earth are people
getting upset that it's childish?
I find it amusing and light, a nice touch of colour in our mostly dire society (and a lot of the comments reflect that very fact) of today.
I also applaud the effort to bring some different cultures to the mostly white/straight/male superhero world.
Why are people so scared of what's foreign to them? These comments are like reading the precursor to a war (of ideologies). Also, what is this obsession with people becoming more tolerant and open to other cultures? I think the danger here is the obvious hate filling some of the comments, not being "woke"or whatever ridiculous term the righty brigade comes up with.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Inescapable (2019)
Simply astounding
This episode is the epitome of the frankly unbelievable acting by Elizabeth and Iain. It's at times gutbustingly funny (the hilarious and manly yelp at Jemma's 7 ½-year old version, you're so English and Fitz referring to Ringu when Sadako Jemma appears), but at the same time scary and touching and Simply. Incredible. Tv.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The End (2018)
Doesn't matter how many times I rewatch...
... I still cry like a teenager even though I know what will happen by heart!
It's just... COULSON! He's the heart! I think I will always cry, even if I rewatch it again and already know what happens in the two remaining seasons.
Splendid end to the season. This series, with the Expanse, are my top two sci-fi series ever (so far).
Halo: Inheritance (2022)
ok she's a teenager but still...
I can't stand her... unfortunately not because she could have been a good role but she's just a brat. So i think i'll skip the parts with her and soren (not too fond of him either). I can't put my finger on it but there's just something so unsympathetic about those two that you sorta cringe when you read that it's an episode about them.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
picard for multiversal president
I'm just delighted, being a huge fan of tng... i seriously don't understand the bad reviews, or are these made by people who are as old as patrick stewart for real or people obstinately stuck on roddenberry's idea of utopia... ideas, just like people, evolve. They sort of have to with the ever-changing world. Would we be able to watch another tng-like series nowadays without rolling our eyes, no matter how wonderful we find tng?
The whole new gaggle of star treks has evolved to reflect a different world and current views. I find this only normal. So stop being old fogeys and try to be open to change. Might be good and surprising...
Severance (2022)
like orwell and kafka had a baby.
Fair warning for those of you who are into
neurone-splitting action: this is not for you. It's slow but visually stunning and intelligent to boot. Not
to mention dystopian as hell, while still keeping some warmth and soul to it. Superbly understated acting which is always better in american actors (sorry...). Orwell and kafka would be horrified which in this case is a compliment. Luckily there's still enough humour for it to not implode on clichés. Takes awhile to get in to but just hang in there...
