Gorenos (2016)
Wow,an almost great movie
After five minutes I wanted to shut this movie off.The acting was atrocious.I figured there was no way I could enjoy this movie when the actors all over pronounciated their words and generally over-acted. After fifteen minutes,I had changed my mind, not because the acting got better but because I couldn't look away. Now I can say honestly I am glad I didn't shut it off.
I won't go into detail about names or specifics in this review.I'll just tell you what I think I just watched.
This is a movie that was almost great. It was clear to me the writers wanted us to watch a movie that didn't insult our intelligence which the very plot alludes to at the beginning. What makes a great horror movie? What makes a horror movie leave us frustrated and unsatisfied?Starting the movie off with these questions opens a door to further intrigue .Would this movie be a parody of bad horror movies?Would this movie be just another bad horror movie? It turns out its neither. No time is wasted, and the plot moves along smoothly. The lines are funny at times but i was never sure if they were supposed to be ...and for some reason it just made me want to keep watching even more.
At times the plot would take a nose dive and I was sure i was about to be as aggravated as the main character suggested I would be watching a bad movie. But then the characters would react realistically and save the day.Just when you think its bordering on cheese,it redeems itself.I couldn't help think in after thought i'd just watched an episode from Tales from the Crypt. For better or worse, it was engaging, and made an effort to be more than just a b flick.I want to see more from the makers, and have a small bit of advice for the two main characters (the friends).Next time try under-acting a little...as it seems over-acting comes naturally to you...try behaving more like you don't know you're on camera. This movie would have been great if you had. I'd watch this movie again someday....
Emeryville (2016)
Awful
Again with the paid reviews. The movie could have been watchable if the acting had been even b grade. But alas, the acting is so horrendous
It seemed like the actors kept forgetting their lines and all the unnatural pauses during the dialogue screams severely amateur. Its just not watchable. Scene after scene of them just standing around looking like their waiting for the director to cue them or a prompter to tell them their lines.
Why release a movie when its this bad?Why all the paid reviews?I swear the movie's budget was spent solely on the paid reviews.I couldn't bear to watch more than 30 minutes of this garbage.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
Glad I watched it
I.D.The Resurgence is a lot of fun.I was happy to see so many original characters back! Like the original, this is meant to be a summer blockbuster. If you want poetry, watch something else.If you want more action, grandiose "we are the champions" type rhetoric and some good humor thrown in,this is your movie. Will' Smith's characters son does a great job,as do all the actors. Its to be expected from these big name actors. I would have liked it to be a little longer,a few more sentimental moments between Goldblum's character and his dad, between Pullman's character(the former president) and his daughter, and Will Smith's son and his mother(from the original movie.)I wonder/hope they just cut those scenes out and they are in the director's cut? This is the kind of fun movie you can watch again...every year...around this time and will enjoy it all over again.Great escapism and ca't go wrong with the notion of global unity...something we sorely need in reality.
The Shallows (2016)
Had potential
I wish I didn't need ten lines to write this review because not enough happens in this movie to warrant ten lines. The Shallows had a lot of potential and its a shame they chose to nothing with it at all. Its basically just Blake Lively alone through most of the movie which is fine but nothing happens! There were four other people in the movie and not one of them adds anythin gto the plot. There was so much opportuity for thrilling action and interaction between the characters and Blake Lively.Instead they chose to use them all as fill ins. Its sad to say but this movie was boring. I watched chance after chance for great plot development just passed by.There was no climax, nothing memorable and weirdly..i guess its rated pg because there was no blood and the attack scenes were pathetic.Wow. Why did they bother?
The Rezort (2015)
Not a b flick SYFY not bad at all
This is a good movie. The producer wanted a Jurassic Park-like movie with zombies instead of dinosaurs. They succeeded.I won't bore with what the movie is about more than that.I was impressed by the acting. Most b flicks have actors with poor skills. These actors act as if they were in a big budget blockbuster. No phoning it in, in The Rezort.Character development happens while the action takes place so there is no boring first half hour.Thank you for that! This is how an action movie should be...just enough character development as we go along so we care about the characters and still get to be thrilled by the action.
The location(Phillipines) and props are interesting and engaging. This doesn't seem like a low budget movie.
However,i would have preferred the "disaster" happen a little less suddenly,it seemed a little rushed. It does set up several situations for us to want follow up on though. The zombies are different from the usual zombie in that they seem a little smarter than they should be..but that makes the Rezort and it's purpose all the more compelling and controversial.A little cheesy at times but nothing too over the top.
Great make up effects, great camera work..this is a professionally made movie.Worth a watch...you might even watch it again. It borders on b flick for its few flaws but overall this is not a b flick SYFY movie.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Yet again, not scary, family friendly kid movie
I had high hopes for The Conjuring 2.But it isn't as scary as the first. The first was laughable most of the time so i figured it would easy for them to make this one more scary. But after 20 minutes I was rolling me eyes. The problem with the writers and producers of The Conjuring movies is they don't believe in mystery, the unknown.Everything is laid out for you.Within 15 minutes I realized this movie is a children's movie. The ghost scowl near the beginning ,where the ghost or demon tells the girl shes playing a game with Billy is so juvenile I instantly was disappointed. There is no way this movie would scare anyone over 12 or 13.If you are looking for an interesting movie( i like the two characters who are the mediums) with good acting but don't care about being scared, then you may enjoy this movie.
