Clock Tower 2 (1996)
Playstation's 1st Serial Killer!!!
The first game to ever feature a cold-blooded serial killer manages to keep the tensions reasonably high in this undemanding but hugely effective point 'n' click horror adventure in which you play a series of characters as well as the main characters (15-year-old Jennifer Simpson and her guardian, Helen Maxwell) as you go through the game trying to match up the clues and solving the mystery of the terrifying Scissorman! The graphics may look unimpressive but the story's extremely satisfying with numerous alternate endings, the creepy soundtrack could match that of Halloween's, the simplistic game-play makes easier for novice players or who like the Broken Sword series and the value of this game won't take just a weekend either. Buy this if you love to be really scared!
Clock Tower 3 (2002)
A delightfully frightening, if shallow, third entry into the series
Created by the director of Battle Royale and developed by Capcom (developers of the Onimusha, Dino Crisis and Resident Evil games), this third instalment of the 'Clock Tower' trilogy is an astounding yet disappointingly shallow slasher sequel that creates nothing new to the popular genre. Playing as 14-year-old Alyssa, she soon discovers that she's a Rooder (a generation of women who battle evil, murderous spirits) after she encounters a strange-looking man. As you can tell, the storyline's a little far-fetched but the brilliant voice-overs and believable dialogue flow nicely with the game's story. The visuals are the game best bet as they are splendid-looking and simply dazzling while the music's superbly spot-on. Some may argue that the simplistic game-play gets a little frustrating when trying to accomplish a puzzle or battling a boss at the end of each level but it all depends on the gamer's level of skill. Also, its lifespan is incredibly short (only spanning 4 levels of game-play) which won't take any average gamer long to complete. This is a great addition to the series but when they think up Clock Tower 4, they'd better fix the game-play to save many gamers going into mad frustration.
Sky High (2002)
Sky High
Although this isn't like 'Versus' or 'Azumi', it plays along the same sort of line with the action and story.
The performances from the cast is intriguing; some are brilliant, full of life and inspiration, while some are undemanding, dragging the film along in a slow pace.
The action's incredibly exhilarating, filled with impressive sword fights and stunning magic effects but this gets sadly overshadowed by the film's slow pace and some uninteresting characterisation.
Overall, this is a visually adequate but slight action thriller with a good amount of action to make this overly bearable for fans of the 'Kill Bill' series.
