Justice League (2017)
Overall fun
I really enjoyed this movie although there are a few things that definitely stood out that holds JL back from being well-rounded.
1. Pacing/Transitions. One thing I enjoyed about WW was the fact that it flowed a lot better in my opinion compared to BvS (theatrical cut). The beginning of JL was choppy and from what I understand they had to make the movie less than 2 hours via the WB CEO. You definitely see that in the pacing which the movie honestly needed about 15-20 more minutes to smooth things out.
2. Villain. Steppenwolf overall was a pretty good villain but could have been more. One thing that disappoints me about any superhero movie are villains that aren't fully utilized to their potential.
Those are the two things that stood out to me the most about JL that left me wanting more of a better product.
On the other hand, the character development is really good. I enjoyed Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman. Ezra Miller is a great Barry Allen. Ray Fisher & Jason Mamoa fit their characters really well. WW, Batman, and Superman were all great but it was nice to see JL uplift the new superheroes & pave their way for their future solo movies, etc.
The movie was really fun, jokes were there and most of them were well timed. The overall tone was light-hearted than BvS, but I personally liked BvS being a darker tone.
There are two end credit scenes! Be sure to stay!!! I believe the way that JL ended it opens up a realm of possibilities for DC. I am excited about the future and what DC does with their characters. I know they're 5 movies in right now but they're learning from their mistakes for the most part. This franchise has a bright future as long as they continue to not make the same common mistakes that plagued a lot of their other movies.
8.5/10.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Just Beautiful
Over the past 3 years, I've had so much hype for this movie, and it exceeded all my expectations.
One reason I believe the critics and general public did not like BvS was because they could not follow the first half the movie. There were a lot of different cuts shifting back and forth among Bruce Wayne's point of view, Superman's, Lois Lane's, Lex, etc. I was able to follow along with each character's point of view and felt that it flowed fairly well.
Eisenberg was a great Lex Luthor. Luthor is a maniac, and he is portrayed perfectly in this movie. A deceptive maniac who is so manipulative and puts people against each other. People complain about how this Lex just reminds them of Joker or a Riddler. Who cares? Snyder took Luthor in a new direction, one that a lot of people aren't used to. It's refreshing to see Snyder's influence from the comics but also taking a new approach and changing things up.
Gal Gadot is a gem. So beautiful and her role as Wonder Woman was amazing. She was fierce, strong, calm, all the virtues of Wonder Woman. Perfect casting choice.
Ben Affleck did a great job as Batman. One major fight scene where Batman takes down a bunch of henchmen (seen in the trailers) was incredible from start to finish. It was terrifying to see how merciless Batman was, but so needed. This Batman (in the movies) has been in the game for 20 years, so he's going to do whatever it takes to save people.
I really enjoyed the subtle jokes throughout the movie. Jeremy Irons as Alfred was well done (super witty and funny).
Cinematography was amazing, music by Hans Zimmer never ceases to amaze me. My favorite soundtrack of all time, with the Dark Knight trilogy right behind it.
There's a lot to take in, but I'd advise watching it a second time to get a better understanding if there are questions that are left unanswered. This movie opened up the DC universe and now DC has so many directions to go with the solo films. The cameos of Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman put a huge smile on my face. This movie was everything I've wanted and more.
