Britannia (2017)
The first two seasons were good (Warning, Spoilers)
The first two seasons are good (8-10 Stars), the third season fails horribly (2-3 Stars). In the third season, the story forgets everything that came before. The main villain suddenly becomes a buffoon and they attempt to move the main antagonist role to his wife with no real explanation. She belittles him constantly and he has none of the menace present in the previous seasons. Suddenly the druids are bumbling fools with none of sense of mystical power present in prior seasons. They do away with every strong male figure or portray them as buffoons and weaklings. Probably one of the most blatant sexist failures I've seen. I don't know who forced the changes, but they ruined a strong show. Having strong female leads is fine, but having strong female leads should not equate to bumbling male support. The writing is poor in the third season and there is no understandable reasoning behind many of the character moves made. They even move away from the strong Druidic religious theme. This show moves from a strong adult fantasy to a weak teenage fantasy drama. I finished the third season, but only because I hoped that it would somehow salvage the season and it would end as a decent show. I am of Irish/Celtic descent. I feel the portrayal of the Celtic people and heritage in the third season of this show is offensive.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Very good fantasy show, but far from The Wheel of Time
The show is a strong fantasy piece, but as far as the books go, little more than the names remain. As a huge fan of the books, it is hard to watch this without heavy regret. That being said, I gave the series 2 stars because, if you forget that it was supposed to be an adaptation of one of the best series of novels in the fantasy genre, the show is a decent fantasy series. Hopefully one day, someone else will be given the opportunity to do the novels justice, because this isn't it. This is one of the worst attempts at an novel adaptation I have ever seen. With their budget and backing this had promise, but the liberties taken would never have been approved by Jordan, he was too detailed an author to have accepted this as his work. Enjoy it as a decent fantasy series, but don't believe you really know the novels behind the show. Loosely based on the novels is a far stretch from where the show actually sits. It departs heavily with each episode, where it is now is nowhere near the novels. The second season is so far off as to be unrecognizable to someone that has read the novels.
