Manifest (2018)
Lazily written dialogues, full of cliché phrases
The idea for a story is good. They have chosen the professions of the main protagonists very conveniently - a cop, a doctor, etc. The story is also quite predictable. But that does not bother me that much. What is driving me crazy are those lazily written dialogues. Zero creativy, FULL of cliché phrases, it is unbelievable.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
very emotional
I am sooooo glad they did not go for a movie or few episodes.. Cause with most of the shows it just sucks (like Gilmore Girls - I love LOVE the original series, but the 4 new episodes were just horrible). After years you loose the vibe, the energy, the inspiration.. I was so afraid they are going to ruin Friends for me with some forced movie or episodes.. But they have decided to go the other way, they did this reunion and it was sweet, emotional and I felt like crying many many times... For me personally it would be better without the other celebrities talking about their favourite episodes etc... But in conlusion I really enjoyed it :)
The Resident (2018)
keep watching, the show is getting better with every season
DO NOT JUDGE THIS SHOW AFTER SEASON 1
I am a big fan of medical shows - house, greys anatomy, ER, I saw it all. But this one is different. It's not just about the medicine or relationships, it is mostly about the corruption in the private health care system, it is a first show (to my knowledge) that talks openly about this topic. So for that reason I love it.
During the first season the narrative was so focused on the corruption that there was a lack of depth regarding characters and their story lines. It was a bit shallow, to my taste. Also the dialogues were sometimes full of clichés. I think they were still trying to figure out what kind of show they would like to make. You can see sometimes these camera experiments, which were thankfully abandoned.
Even during the second season I still had the feeling that there is not enough connection with the characters. But it started to change slowly. Dialogues were getting better, thankfully!
The third season is great. I feel like they have finally found their style, script is way better, the stories are deeper, and we got to know other characters too. After season 3 I have to say I love it and I cannot way to see season 4.
Another thing I like a lot is that thanks to Nic they are showing the importance of nurses - every other hospital drama was usually focused on doctors. Here they are showing to viewers that nurses are heroes too! Thanks for that ;)
Pelísky (1999)
Charming, funny & bittersweet drama
This is my all time favorite Czech movie. Unfortunately, I think it would not get the same amount of appreciation by foreign audience - you kinda need to know the historical and cultural context. But I believe that they would still enjoy it, not at the same way and I guess foreign audience would not see the brilliance of this movie.
I love the gradation of this movie, how it starts with silly problems of middle class families (like young love or neighbor's disagreements) and it slowly progresses into serious and tragic topics. The script is brilliant - it is so specific, you don't see these kinds of dialogues in for example US movies. It is hard to explain, but it is spontaneous, so natural, sometimes about unimportant things (which makes the conversation for me real) but still funny and interesting. There are also some of the best Czech actors of the postwar generation. I could go on and on why this movie deserves 10 stars. But see for yourself and you are going to understand (hopefully).
The Iron Lady (2011)
I don't get the purpose of this movie
I love Meryl, love love love. She is amazing, no doubt there. But the movie itself is just so weird. I don't get it. Margaret Thatcher was a strong and fascinating woman. Why, WHY do a movie about her where 2/3 of the movie is concentrated on her dementia and almost insanity and her powerful story is a backstory? I don't understand why, it makes no senses. This movie had such a potential! And It somehow went wrong. I feel that lately the creators are trying so hard to tell their story differently, make it somehow original, use some new approach, that in the end it is counterproductive.
Twilight (2008)
horrible
Are we really showing to kids that this is how a healthy relationship looks like? It is sick, I don't even understand their connection, why are they in love exactly? How the hell this happened? Sooo basically Edward just enter the room and Bella is in love right away... And after that they meet in a biology class, where there is the worst acting ever, when RP is trying to do what exactly? Stop the gag reflex? No, he just looooves her smell, so that's the moment when he falls in love. And that's it. Not a real conversation, getting to know this person. It is all reversed. They start to actually talk after they are already a couple and crazy in love. IT IS SOO BAD.
And the acting... like... the worst. Sorry Robert, I honestly think you are capable as an actor, so what exactly went wrong here?
This movie should be banned for teenagers.
