Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders: Made In... (2017)
Season 2, Episode 5
3/10
Defective and Poorly Executed Plot
7 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode happened to be the very first time I watched this TV show and most probably the last time as well. The reason for watching just a single episode of the show that I have no interest in was pretty much obvious as the plot of the episode revolved around Bangladesh. As a fellow Bangladeshi, I felt a bit of an obligation to write a few word on this.

To start with, the entire episode was captured in America while they just affixed some snippets of some busy roads, Mosques and some important installations in Bangladesh throughout the episode. Consequently, the true and recent image of Bangladesh has been adulterated in many ways.

The episode starts with a verse from the great Rabindranath Tagore's poem narrated with the snippets of the busy Dhaka and the verse itself in Bengali on screen. The fact that was very much sore for the eyes to see was the fact that they probably used Google Translator to translate the line from English to Bengali. As many apart from the Bangladeshi themselves, wouldn't know that Google Translate morbidly functions when it comes to translating from English to Bengali or the other way around. So, the alphabets looked more like Sanskrit than Bengali and it wasn't readable, even more so as it did not make any sense at all even to a native Bangladeshi like me.

The fluctuations continue as the show tried its best to portray Dhaka so antiquated as it takes a toll to get ahold of a full cellular network in the capital city, which does not have much of a truth to it. Maybe the statement would've been partially true if we were speaking for a decade-long ago but the advancement of IT sector in Bangladesh has improved drastically, so much as opposed to its neighbour India where there are still many places where Cell Network is pretty much hard to find by. There was another significant bygone point in the episode which has been pretty boldly dealt with in Bangladesh by its law enforcement agencies in the recent past; which is the uptick of the terrorist attack against the foreigners in the country. As secularism remains to be one of the four main pillars of Bangladesh's constitution, there's no place for any militancy in the name of Islam in Bangladesh. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians; no matter what their belief, the citizens of this very country bonds over kinship.

Despite some erroneous insinuation throughout the episode, there were some bold and true fact about Bangladesh mentioned briefly like Bangladesh has one of the fastest growing economies in the world, the sub-par environment for the working class in many of the factories and the poor police per civilian ratio throughout the country because of the densely populated areas.

All in all, it was quite clear for the viewers to see that the plot was written in a great haste thus resulting in a poor execution. Since I came to understand that the theme of the show is to run across borders while solving crimes, they could go into more depth regarding certain country's facts where the show is concerned.

The Crown (2016–2023)
9/10
A fantastic portrayal of British Royal history
30 November 2016
The Crown is one of the fascinating dramas I have watched in very recent of times. First off, the show itself is a bit slow paced but nevertheless, it generates enough amount of suspense over the episodes. The Crown may lack the twist and turning of events than many other historical dramas, but the flawless direction and impeccable acting of its actors do not allow its audiences get disappointed. Secondly, the grandeur of the show is something of a treat to the sore eyes. Netflix has not been so frugal in the making of the show and it has paid them off every penny. The costume and the furnishing of the show within are scintillating. Lastly, this show is a great history lesson for all the viewers, particularly the ones who are of younger generations. It is mostly based on true events, so that is indeed a stand-out fact of the show. Though there were some moments where it seemed a little bit exaggerated but considering its genre as a TV series, that is reasonable. The Crown has allowed its viewers to peek what lies behind the royal curtains and taught a significant truth that a royal born doesn't necessarily get to evade all the personal tribulations that all the other commoners go through. They share just as same values as the other citizens of the country.

One of the masterpieces of the 90s

Warning: Spoilers
Leon is one of the most underrated movies of all time to my understanding. The protagonists in the movie were at their best playing this movie.

The build up to the story is impeccable as we can see a glimpse into the main man's life story. It does seem a bit waylay at first starting the movie but as the time goes by things are put in places in a very subtle and flawless way.

Leon is more of a thriller which doesn't necessarily have the complexion to the story as one might expect but it has way more ingredients to the story than the genre of the movie itself. The slow-building relationship between Leon and Mathilda is very well portrayed. Leon has earned cynicism at the time of its release and it seems pretty justifiable since it shows a sexual tension between a middle-aged man and a thirteen-year-old girl. Although it shows predominantly one-sided attraction it plays a great deal in the story. However, judging the context, the tension makes the movie somewhat exceptional than an ordinary piece of drama.

The thing which stands out about the Leon is the fact how the actors in the movie played a significant role to make this movie worth a watch. Natalie Portman was age-defying and magnificent in playing her character. No wonder she became a huge success in the industry. It's very hard to expect the kind of performance being put in by an actress of such a young age. Jean Reno kept the simplicity of the character with his talent. Lastly, the praise will remain unfinished if not a word is spoken about Gary Oldman's brilliant cameo. It was enthralling to see Gary Oldman at his best putting in such a flawless performance. This was surely one of Gary's best work in his whole acting career.

Leon is the kind of movie that will keep the audience enticed and uptight the whole duration of the movie. After so many years since its release, I suppose it still remains worthwhile to watch.

The Big Bang Theory (2007–2019)

Must watch for everyone; especially for science geeks
13 October 2016
Best sitcom in the 21st century. The jokes relating to science are hilarious. The sitcom built up the characters so nicely over the seasons. All the actors playing the characters have certainly lived up to the expectation of the viewers. The show made a good correlation between the characters. One of the best parts of the show is its guest actors. All the guest actors played in this sitcom played a significant role building up the amusing plots. One might say this isn't the kind of show which can leave you on the hinges at the end of seasons but on the contrary, I suppose this is a perfect show for the viewers who find it hard to keep up with the show episode after episode in their hard and fast life. To top it all off, this is the kind of show which will surely make you fall in love with nerd culture.
