Pleasantly Surprised
5 July 2017
Not a huge Ben Afflict fan and only because his acting is inconsistent. He's either really good in something or he is terrible. Because of that, I don't always run to see his movies. I definitely didn't jump on the chance to see this movie and watched it only recently because it was on HBO and there was nothing else on TV. I wish I hadn't waited so long to see it, because it was surprisingly a really good movie. So much so that I watched it again the next day and am thinking I may watch it again tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the characters and the acting. Ben impressed me this time and Anna was as charming as always.

TURN: Washington's Spies (2014–2017)

Excellent

My husband and I binged watched the first few seasons on Netflix and couldn't wait for the new season on AMC. The show is excellent and the characters are brilliant. Jamie Bell is outstanding in it and Samuel Roukin plays a villain that you love to hate. All the characters keep you on an emotional roller coaster. AMC nailed it with this show. I have no idea if the historical references are all accurate and I don't care - it keeps you on your toes the whole time.

Surprisingly amazing

At first I wasn't too sure about the show. It wasn't what I had expected - especially with all the "superhero" type shows/movies out there with mutants and in-humans. This show is the smarter/crazier version of all those. The characters are great - Dan Stevens, Audrey Plaza, and Jemaine Clement are by far my favorite. I couldn't recommend this enough. My only thought - if your not really into scifi, then you probably won't get this show. otherwise, if your not watching it - you are totally missing out.

Smart SciFi

Warning: Spoilers
This is not your action packed Alien SciFi movie. I saw some negative reviews call it boring and slow, but I thought it was brilliant. it was smart and interesting. It's the kind of movie that made me continue to think about it the next day and makes me want to go back and watch it again to see the subtle clues that I missed. Throughout the movie you think that one situation with the characters is going on, and then one 4-5 word sentence from a character towards the end of the film completely changes your whole perspective on the film. If you haven't seen it, I don't want to totally ruin it for you because the emotions that play in your head - especially being a mother/parent is what makes this movie spectacular.

Over the top, but entertaining
10 October 2016
I've become addicted to this show. It's crazy over the top, super impossible, totally outlandish - but absolutely entertaining. That's why I love it. The show's not trying to be realistic...it's just trying to offer some fun for one hour of entertainment in an otherwise serious world. There are tons of cop/crime fighting type shows on TV to compete with that are serious and complex - this show is not one of them. It's just pure fun. If you want pure fun, I highly recommend this show as long as you ignore all the impossibilities and sometimes cheesiness. I just started watching season 3 and am looking forward to many more seasons.

Enjoyable Mindless TV
14 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It wasn't perfect, but it was enjoyable. I agree with others that yes - the acting isn't Oscar material, but they are young and new actors. I think the actors and show have great potential. I will continue to watch it and hope it gains success to be a multiple season show. I thoroughly enjoyed the books and would love to see how they develop on the screen.

My one disappointment was that they made Dominic Sherwood talk with an American accident. I'm an American so I am not dissing the accent, but the guy has a really sexy natural British Accent/voice. Otherwise, I don't mind the changes they made to the show, thus far. I'm intrigued to see where they are going to go with it.

Update: I wanted to add an update to my review because I noticed that there have been more negative reviews for this show, and I think it deserves a chance. Honestly, after watching the pilot for the first time – I would have been one of those negative reviewers. However, I decided to watch the pilot again along with episode 2 and my opinion did a complete 180. When I first watched the pilot – I over-watched it – meaning I picked every detail apart and compared it to both the movie and the book. That was my mistake. First, 99% of the time the book is always better then the movie/show. I challenge someone to think of more than one or two movies/shows that have been better then the book and even then – that would be subject to opinion. Then I tried to compare it to the larger budget/big screen movie (which, by the way – I seem to be in the rare population of people that actually liked the movie). So, I wiped all those thoughts out of my head and just watched it to enjoy it and I did! I really truly enjoyed the first two episodes. For those who have read the books and/or seen the movie, I can see where the "cliff hanger" ending to the pilot episode went flat and why it left so many people with a blah feeling about the show. We KNOW she picks Jace over Simon, the whole premise of the book is about their love so to the book fans, this was NOT a cliff hanger. Classic serial position effect – people remember the beginning and the end the most. The 2nd episode leaves a true cliff hanger in my opinion. Obviously, if you read the books – you know what will happen to Simon – BUT the screen writers changed the story enough where – I'm not sure how or what will happen next. I have a general idea, but they left me wanting more to find out how it will all go down. I'm excited for episode 3 and can't wait. So, in summary – don't watch the show to judge it, just watch it to enjoy it and it may surprise you. It's TV for goodness sakes, it's not the cure for cancer!
