Undone (2019)
A fine entry in the Magical Realism genre
This really isn't that spoilery, but I don't want to mess up how you watch it.
Like all magical realism, this tells two stories - one based in the material world and one in the magical/spirit world. And, like the *best* magical realism (one that many people are familiar with is Pan's Labyrinth), you choose which story you want to watch...but that choice does not come at the beginning; it comes at the very end. It's not a choose-your-own-adventure, it's more reflective. Ultimately, the choice is about the viewer - How do you see the world? How do you want to see the world?
This is not a flawless entry in the genre, but it does a very good job. It pays enough attention to detail to be sure to not invalidate either option (I am thinking of the security guard scene, for example).
Lots of hat tips to Latinx culture throughout the ages, but this delivers in on of the finest modern entries in that proud heritage.
Lastly, on an unrelated note, what doesn't Bob Odenkirk do well?
Documentary Now!: Searching for Mr. Larson: A Love Letter from the Far Side (2019)
A great season just derailed...
After 4 brilliant episodes, this was a stumble. A one joke pony that went nowhere. A big ball of meh....
