Mindblowingly awful yet watchable for that reason.

It´s a cliché that I seldom use, since I hate clichés, but here goes: This movie´s only positive quality is that it really is so incredibly bad that it becomes not good but enjoyable and funny. When D´Andra Simmons popped up playing the cop I felt like it was the icing on the cake for me (I´m a huge real housewives fan). I wish Lifetime would take all the elements of this movie and actually work on it a little, get better actors and a better script, and make it a nice little thriller with teenagers and psycho cultists. It seems easy in theory so I don´t know how they could possibly have ruined it in every way with this movie, but I´m not even joking, there is not a single thing that works here, except the main actress was okay.

I am easy to please with this genre of movies but this one sucked.

I was bored right from the start. Everything was clunky and almost nothing made sense. Like, why didn´t the boy pretend to be dumb? It would have been cool if he acted stupid but then suddenly showed how bright he was, but no, he couldn´t even lie a little bit? That was a weird choice... A scary villain needs some mystery. I predicted the ending easily. The main characters should have built up a friendly relationship in order for us to care at all. Then the back story came out of nowhere, like a corny melodrama lol I could almost say that literally every line in the script was off. It was disjointed, just going from one big (stupid) twist to the next without connecting them together. Although, in a way I am glad they didn´t do that because then the movie would have been longer and I kept nodding off through out, thinking about the fun I would have going to bed early just as soon as I had finished watching it. I don´t know why but I expected way more.

The actress who played the girlfriend is very pretty but she can´t act, everyone else was blah except Noah who played creepy rather well.

Sorry but Emma Thompson was way to old to play Elinor.
7 January 2023
It is quite a good movie and doesn´t stray far from the book at all. It kept all the necessary characters and basic plotline. I just finished reading the book a few days ago and couldn´t wait to watch this (again - I last saw it when it came out in ´95) but I have to say that seeing Emma Thompson play a 19 year old just wasn´t the right choice. If she had to play a part it should have been the mother, they could have aged her a bit and it would have been perfect. After reading the other reviews I know this will be an unpopular opinion but really, isn´t it a bit much to have a 36 year old plain woman playing a 19 year old beauty? Because Elinor was supposed to be very good looking, just not as stunning as her younger sister. Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant were both absolutely gorgeous in their roles.

The Watcher (2022– )

Doesn´t make sense, is annoying as hell, but still an enjoyable watch

Warning: Spoilers
I must say that I really enjoyed this show, despite the numerous things that were wrong with it. Just off the top of my head I will mention a few of them: The main characters (mom and dad) constantly say and do stupid things that make absolutely no sense. They never pick up on clues or any dodgy behavior. I was begging them through-out the show to stop talking and to chill and think before blowing up against neighbors, cops, suspects etc.

The surveillance guy made no sense. A guy like that who, lets face it, looks like a stereo typical criminal, would never be hired to be the security in an upper-class, old, fancy WHITE neighborhood. If he was so smart, he would have gotten another job because no-one except for the stupid dad of this one family would ever trust him in their house. It is what it is...

The private detective character was a joke. Again, another employee of the dad´s who made no sense. Why would a black, "british", ex-jazz singer with a super-posh english accent come to America to become a P. I? She had no connections, not like the p.i´s who are ex cops or have skills in getting information, and she stood out like a sore thumb in the setting. And it was the extremely suss detective who recommended her! Why would the dad have trusted his recommendation? And to hear her droning on and on and on, again and again, was basically the low-light of the show for me tbh. It took up so much time. So many good scenes could have been included if she just wasn´t there. Do not think my opinion on this character has anything to do with race (unlike the security guy who I think does not make sense because of his race), if she would have been black, american born and somewhat qualified as a private detective I would not have cared.

I loved the creepy and obnoxious neighbors, I wish the show had done more with them instead of having the posh-accent lady telling us longwinded stories over and over. When I finally got to see the historical/preservation society, I was giddy with joy and wanted more.

I would have liked it if the murder/suicide of "the couple" next door had made sense or not been glossed over. That plot twist felt really annoying, it either should have been followed up on or skipped altogether (preferably the latter).

I hated the daughter. HATED HER. She started out fine but the storyline with her and the security guy felt gross and it was unnecessary. After the video she made, lying about her dad being racist, I wanted her to suffer, but the ending had her going off to Brown and her dad forgiving her. That sucked.

It took nothing for the mom to turn on the dad, and to distrust him. That put me off her. I mean, she saw him being asleep while a pig-tailed naked girl literally frolicked around their bedroom, after they had been harassed and stalked BUT SHE BLAMED HIM? For sleeping through it? Rargh!!!! And they didn´t even prosecute the security dude for putting a camera in their bedroom....

Okay, so this has turned into a bit of a rant so let me just add that despite everything I´ve said before now, it has many good things too (does that make sense? Lol)

I even liked how the ending was not explained and left open to interpretations. It is not hard to come up with an explanation on who the watcher was. But I guess I´m the only one who liked that so just be prepared to be highly annoyed by the ending lol.

Oh and just one more thing that I can not get over:

When they finally find out about the tunnel, they don´t use it to find out more clues, they just have it boarded up. Why not find out where it leads???

I thought at first that this show would go on for more seasons, it really had the potential, with all the secrets that were there and the weirdos in that neighborhood, but all those things were just glossed over and not explored in the slightest.

If the mystery had been focused on, and the family had stuck together and taken it seriously, by gathering clues and connecting the dots, this series could have been a masterpiece.

The Super (2017)

Worth a watch
22 October 2018
I´m gonna review this movie by thirds. The first part is okay. I was interested in finding out what was happening in the building, and how it would play out for the family (dad and 2 daughters). Then during the middle part I felt quite bored and I even considered turning the movie off to watch something else but I´m so glad I didn´t because all of a sudden, let´s say at the start of the 3/3 mark, the unimaginable plot twist starts happening and that was fun. The last part of the movie is very thrilling and if the movie had all been like that it could have been great. The main flaws are that there is a big dull grey blob of boring happening in the middle of the story that kind of makes you dis-attach from the plot and the characters. All those things are quite up in the air, i.e they are not that well developed overall so much potential is lost by not doing that. But don´t give up if you feel bored, the ending has it´s rewards and doesn´t leave the viewer with questions like so many cheap wannabe thrillers do these days.

Fiancé Killer (2018 TV Movie)

A funny little "thriller"
6 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I´m usually not a fan of the "so bad it´s good" category but I feel like this movie really fits in there. Most of the characters are so stupid and the conversations so silly (nothing new for a lifetime movie at that, but it actually works to this films advantage) that it really turns into a comedy (in a good way). The villainess is very over the top, she´s like a psycho toddler on drugs, it makes no sense that Brent wouldn´t just kill her and enjoy the money with his sexy young wife. Neither does it make sense that he would have gotten her to believe he was for real, but... anyway. He tries his best to complete the mission, but his real girlfriend constantly shows up and tries to ruin it, often in very cartoon-ish ways, even though this was her plan that she supposedly spent months planning.

Deadly Delusion (2017 TV Movie)

Awful and boring
5 August 2018
I think this movie could have worked if they had gone with a better actress. Or just any other actress. Haylie Duff is so bad that she´s in a category all on her own. From the first moments when she is on screen every facial expression she makes is awful and made me wish for something extremely terrible to happen to her. Yes, she was playing a character who looked like a horse with the worst personality you could imagine. It´s impossible to have any sympathy for such a person when the actress is this bad.

Funny scenes and the witches are real.
13 October 2017
I mostly want to point out that despite some reviews claiming otherwise, some of the people in this documentary are not actors. The older woman who leads a witchcraft session with naked young ladies and the young woman getting married were both famous "real" witches back in the day. The husband as well. I've forgotten their names but if you watch the movie just go check online, there's lots of info about them. I had to research this since I was basically 50/50 for either believing it or not and a bit sad to see in the other reviews that it was all faked with actors. So good people, this stuff is real, basically the only things not completely provable are the Finnish ceremony and the black mass, but I'm personally quite sure that they were not made up. Why would they be? It was very easy to find stuff like this happening all over the world.

I guess people were more open with their occult ceremonies at the time, but they're still happening, take for instance Marina Abramovitch and all the famous people and politicians who go to her ritual parties. Rappers and musicians are openly worshiping Lucifer etc.

So sure, this looks a bit silly but the witchcraft was real.
