The Sandman (2022)
NEVER READ THE COMIC BUT THE SHOW IS AMAZING
Truly LOVED and enjoyed this show! I love very simplistic things being made into a deep thinking piece. I never read the comics but I really enjoyed discovering the characters through this show. Episode 5 & DEFINITELY episode 6 was by far my favorite episode. Truly enjoyed the characters of Death and Lucifer. The show very much feels like it could be connected to the Netflix Sabrina and Charmed series. I would love the world building of the two. I could definitely see them casting Morpheus as a slightly older man but I think the actor carried the show very well. I loved the diversity of the cast and a lot of black faces and talent on screen, which truly excited me. Episodes 7-10 are a bit slower in tone and take a different direction for the show but are still enjoyable. Hope and cannot wait for a Season 2. We deserved more Desire and Despair in episodes 7-10. I think they would've helped those stories and characters.
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Great extension to the original!
I really enjoyed this film. I love all things wicca/paganism. The story was simple and to the point. I loved that it told a simple story. Sometimes I think people enjoy convoluting things but in this film, like the original, it wasn't needed. We followed the character Lily moving to her new school and home with her mother, new step-father and 3 new siblings. Very simple yet conveying graphics and spells. This movie does a great job at paying homage to the original without it being a retelling and more of a continuation. If you are into wicca in television/film, this is a good watch for you and a cup of wine. The actresses did a great job and the guy who played the character Timmy, brought tears to me. I would like a sequel with more character development for the other 3 witches and are main character Lily. Maybe in a series of flashbacks?
The Color Purple (1985)
Timeless
A classic, and timeless film about generational and pathological struggles of black women.
Charmed (1998)
My favorite show
With 8 seasons, you see pure character arcs, story development, and growth. Necessary for any true success.
Charmed (2018)
Ehh. Did the watch ANY of the original material?
Trying to give it an honest shot but it's all over the place. CW has great shows like LEGACIES, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, & even LIGHT AS A FEATHER. So when we get to this CHARMED reboot I'm just lost. I wish we could've just called it something else and let it be an original. Because of such controversy and almost blatant disrespect it seems to the history and legacy of what made the show so great in the first place. I do believe sometimes it takes a minute to get things going and cultivation is necessary. I will continue to watch all while praying, that it makes the necessary changes to stand on its own legs and be it's own force to be reckoned with.
Black Lightning (2018)
NECESSARY AND NEEDED FOR COMIC TV
Black Lightning is a modern, cultural necessity! Black Lightning not only showcases black talent and the many facets of the black community, it provides a visual represenation, an outlet for black and brown children, teens, and adults alike. I and many others like me, are thankful for the CW for providing this space. We need more black and brown SUPERHEROES on the tv and film screen!
