Lupin (2021)
Mystery, adventure and style!
I honestly think the bad reviews here must be fake. This show is so much fun! The cast fantastic and it's wonderfully produced. You'll be wondering what the next twist or sleight of hand is. Give it a go! Can't wait for part 2 to be released!
(I watched it in original French with subtitles... I honestly forgot I was watching a French show. It was just so immersive).
Plagi Breslau (2018)
Better than Expected
Not sure why there are so many really low reviews on here - I was almost put off by them, but I'm glad I took a chance and watched it. A classic thriller and serial killer story line. Sure it's not revolutionary and there are similarities to the movie Seven, but it is its own movie, a bit of fun and well written. Give it a shot!
Altered Carbon (2018)
Give season 2 a miss. It's not worth the disappointment.
Do yourself a favour and watch season 1, then don't watch season 2. The first season is the perfect blend of action, mystery, humour and romance... Joel Kinnaman was just so much to watch.
Season 2 by comparison is completely dull. The storyline is boring, the characters have lost all sense of personality, there's no sense of humour. It's so disappointing to watch after season 1. I wish I hadn't seen it.
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Spoiled brats and their parents - should have been the title
As a teacher I found this movie incredibly painful to watch. It's a terrible script that attempts to gamer some sort of sympathy for the heroes and their mothers by painting their teachers and schools as uncaring and insensitive. But it really just makes their mothers look like the kind of nightmare parents you hope you never have to deal with as a teacher. Their kids are constantly misbehaving, but they act so shocked when the school raises the issue with them. I just can't get over how bad it is. It's ridiculous. Not to mention the ridiculous Christian narrative. I can only assume the people giving it good reviews are die hard Christians who loved that aspect of the movie.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Lots of fun!
This movie was a lot of fun! It ticked all the right boxes- great action sequences, good sense of humour and a few twists that kept it interesting (I didn't know the story ahead of seeing it).
Don't listen to the haters - see it and decide for yourself.
Somewhere Between (2017)
Somewhere between a zero and a one.
We lasted 14 minutes. Paula Patton and the script are truly truly terrible.
How It Ends (2018)
How it should have ended...
I hope they name the sequel - 'How it should have ended'.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
It might not be Star Trek, but it's an excellent show.
It breaks all the norms of Star Trek. And apparently it breaks all the lore.
But it was emotional, well acted and unpredictable. It kept you on the edge of your seat and I loved it.
I spent the first few episodes complaining that it wasn't really Star Trek, and then I got over it and enjoyed it for what it was. An incredibly well written show.
