Doctor Who: Under the Lake (2015)
Doctor who vs The Rugby world cup
If I read one more post from a fan that's having dark thoughts because of poor viewing figures I'm going to bail. Can we not all just watch and enjoy a show without worrying what's going down in the future.
The best episode since Flatline, we are given a mystery, a new villain, an original base team. As it's a two part story there'll be time to develop the characters.
A well known source has a petition for the use of the sonic sunglasses, I ask you. Maybe I've not got enough time on my hands.
It's true that Doctor Who allows for almost anything, all I ask for is that it be original.
PS I don't like rugby.
Midwinter of the Spirit (2015)
Potential
*****SPOILER FREE***** About time, these books have been around years and been waiting for TV to take them up. It raised an eyebrow when I heard ITV were making them, the nature of material I'd have thought would have meant only Channel Four would have had the b***s to make, but fair play.
Three enjoyable episodes, well put together. Anna was good as Merrily, David Threlfall was worthy of more on screen time. One minor fault would be the lack of Gomer Parry, a key relationship in the books.
Being ITV, it's no surprise that some of the more gruesome elements were omitted, they could have been darker, although I'm left feeling there's potential with this series. A Christmas transmission would have been good, MR James has left a gaping hole.
Some of the books are darker then others, I'll wait with baited breath to see if Crown of Light is the next one they make.
Apparitions sank a few years ago, similar material. I hope isn't the one and only outing for Merrily. Time will tell.

Halloween (1978)
The Bogeyman strikes
*****SPOILER FREE***** I'll lay the cards on the table, and say this is perhaps the greatest horror film of all time. When asked the question 'what movie would you like to see on the big screen? The answer will resoundingly always be Halloween.
Halloween manages to have you on the edge of your seat, poised to cover your eyes with a blanket. Michael Myers, the mask, the music, Jamie Lee Curtis as the perfect victim, the list is endless, so many elements combine to make it the greatest horror of all time.
I had nightmares as a child, peering through a gap in the door as my parents watched it, the bed sheet/ghost scene is as harrowing now as it was back then.
>>>>>as Halloween approaches order the popcorn, shut the blinds and put this movie on>>>>>
Scream (1996)
The redefining of the Horror movie
******SPOILER FREE***** Scream must be applauded for what it did. It made a credible horror movie that got people interested in a film genre that by 1996 had all but died a death. It made the slasher movie relevant once again, and remains the best of its genre, despite a myriad of copies and similar styled movies.
I can imagine the annoyance felt by Drew Barrymore, who I don't think they that it would spurn 3 sequels.
Each sequel that's followed has dipped in quality to its predecessor, the forth installment was poor, the second good, and the third watchable.
This first film is funny, scary and energetic, no wonder it was a huge success. Neve Campbell is great, Sydney is also the most interesting character in the movie.
Is there any horror fan that's not seen it? can't be..
Triangle (2009)
Overlooked
*****SPOILER FREE REVIEW***** It's always sad when a pucker movie falls into the maelstrom, sinking without trace. Triangle is one of such films, my friends have never even heard of it, even the ones I went to see it on the big screen alongside have forgotten its existence. Shame, because it's a quality movie, 2009 saw a hornets nest of Horror movies, more fashionable and in then in 2015. Triangle stood out as the best of the bunch.
I'll refrain from giving away too much about the plot, as it's the whole reason for watching, but those that have seen it will know how clever it is, well structured, intelligent and deep.
Melissa George is great in the lead, she is so hot, I think she makes it the great film that it is. The film messes with your mind, and leaves you guessing and wondering right the way through.
A horror? of sorts, more a psychological thriller that dares to mess with it's viewers. >>>>>Watch it>>>>>
