Not your standard period piece costume dress biopic. Inspired by the true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.
Kelvin Harrison Jr was smashing as Chevalier. He so embodied the character that it wasn't until credits rolled that I realized it was Christian from Cyrano. Same with Minnie Driver. Samara Weaving was radiant was Marie-Josephine, so much chemistry with Harrison. Lucy Boynton as Marie Antoinette, Marton Csokas as Marquis De Montalembert -- all were superb.
The movie really shines once Chevalier decides to strive for more in terms of career, stature, standing, and love.
While Napoleon may have tried to erase Chevalier, this movie will ensure his legacy lives on for more generations.
Credits: a quick prologue.
