Miraculous - Le film (2023)
Ridiculous
I think this is the worst movie I've seen in my entire life.
I know the TV series and I like watching it with my kids. It's reasonably good but this movie is perfectly ridiculous.
The reason is simple: only one guy is director, writer of the scenario and the songs. That's the French bad way of making movies (coucou Luc Besson). It's impossible for only one person to have all those talents. I believe Jeremy Zag is a good director, but the script and the songs are very bad.
Ah... the songs. What a strange idea to add them. They are all so mellow, cheesy. The lyrics are very bad, the choregraphies are non-sense... the audience in the theater was teared between exasperation and laughters for each of them (including my 3 kids)
. Not a very good sign.
You can easily wait until this movie is available on the VOD platforms instead of spending 50 euros (for a family of 5).
Miss (2020)
Very nice movie
Astonishing performance from lead actor Alexandre Wetter and quite good cast around him. I enjoyed this movie with my 12 and 14 years old daughters, despite the plot being a little caricatural and not plausible on certain "details" (the way the Miss France TV show is organized for instance).
There's some fun, but it's more a drama than a comedy.
I really recommend this movie.
Tous les matins du monde (1991)
Boring
I got really really bored by this movie. It's waaaaaayyyyy too long. The music is excellent, though very repetitive. The shots are beautiful - you often feel like you're looking at a Vermeer's painting. The actors are great (excellent idea to have Depardieu father and son playing old and young Marin Marais). But the plot stands on a napkin and the movie could last only 1 hour instead of almost 2. Moreover the sound of speech is very low and you simply don't understand half of the (few) sentences (I'm French).
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Too many things that are not plausible
I'm not refering to the science-fiction but to human behaviour. Let's accept, ok, there's a huge and sudden climate crisis which transforms half of the planet into a giant ice cube. Alright. But then, all the human reactions are lame and just impossible. Hundreds are stuck in the Library for hours and no one as started to distribute food? No way! Scientists call each other randomly from time to time instead of having a real-time « war room » that coordinates all the intel? No way! An educated young adult cuts her leg deeply and tells almost no one until she's on the verge of dying (while she must know a few medical basics)? No no no. There are too many examples like these... it really ruins the movie.
Santa & Cie (2017)
Very good family moment
We enjoyed watching this comedy with my 2 daughters (12 and 10). It's very funny to see how Santa copes with modern world, and, of course, how people react when confronted to him.
It's not Alain Chabat's best movie (Asterix et Obelix : mission Cleopatre or La Cité de la Peur are better), but it's really worth being bought or rented on SVOD paltforms.
Black Mirror: Metalhead (2017)
Excellent, disturbing, terrifying
It's the first episode of Black Mirror that triggered the absolute need of writing a critic. It's profound, disturbing, beautifully shot with great acting skills from Maxine Peake. Most of the bad reviews make me sad about the lazyness of people nowadays.
We don't know how mankind fell into this post-apocalyptic world dominated by terrifying killer robots? Use your imagination! Most of this episode is about us, the viewers, being in charge. We constantly have to imagine what we would do in this situation and the apparently limitless intelligence of the dogs (the knife !!!) are a hell of a challenge. The use of white paint is seen as the - finally useless - triumph of human's brain
It's been shot in (a very aesthetic) black and white? Black and white doesn't always mean boring 1960's movie!
No plot? Are you kidding me? It's all about Artificial Intelligence on fully devices.
Teddy bears? Yes, in this metal dominated world, we still have humanity deep in our hearts. Remember what Churchill said when he was told to cut down culture credits to maximize the war effort: « then what are we fighting for? ». Same here.
One of the best movies of 2017.
