The Gentlemen (2019)
Masterpiece
Superb film. Brilliantly layered and Great acting. Up there with Lock Stock & Snatch as one of the Best British movies of the last 25 years without a doubt. Along with Scorsese, Guy Ritchie is one of the best Storytellers in Modern Cinematic history, sure he can effortlessly make any film you can put his way, any genre, any time, be it classic Sherlock Holmes, Man from Uncle, Aladdin or King Arthur. But given license to roam in his Natural Domain and you get Solid Gold Every Time.

Somebody Up There Likes Me (2019)
Knock on Wood
I was lucky enough to see this on limited release & can't wait to Watch it Again on Home Cinema release. The story of a True Rock N Roll Legend, Mr Ron Wood. What a Life, What a Man. A Great Guitarist, Artist & Entertainer, as shown in this Outstanding Documentary, expertly Directed, as you would expect by Legendary British Director Mike Figgis. The Documentary also features some of the Greats, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Rod Stewart, Damien Hirst, Imelda May, Sally Wood and features archive material from Many More. It's hardly surprising though when you consider that Wood has clocked up over half a century at the Forefront of Popular Culture, being a 'Rolling Stone', a 'Face', a 'Jeff Beck Group' member aswell as one of Rock N Roll's True Great Characters. This 2 Time (1989 & 2012) Rock N Roll of Famer really has seen & done it all in his illustrious career to date and like the Great Man says, "When you come to a Fork in the Road, take it"
The Trip to Greece (2020)
archaia mese nea
Watching The trip to... is always a pleasure. The relationship between Coogan and Brydon's characters as ever is the glue that binds the series together. Their Highly Competitive, Artistic Tussling is Always a Joy to Watch. Featuring the Beautiful and Talented Clare Keelan, Maria Barrio, Justin Edwards and set against the backdrop of some Stunning Greek Scenery, the ten years of The Trip to... have been an absolute pleasure to watch and Much Credit must go to Michael Winterbottom for this 'Journey of Odysseus in the Odyssey'. The Trip to Greece really does get better with each viewing, the attention to detail, the genius of the throwaway lines and the Genuine Heartfelt Moments only really become apparent after several viewings, particular highlights being Michael Caine and Sean Connery verbally sparring over The Man Who Would be King and the GregorIan chanting in the underground caves. Looking forward to these Three British Screen Greats, Coogan, Brydon & Winterbottom Working together again and the sooner the better.
King Gary (2018)
Hilariously Funny Magical Sitcom
Very Funny show this, with a Good Message and a Strong Family Thread throughout. Gary King (The Brilliant Tom Davis) has recently taken charge of the Family building firm from his Dad Big Gary (Simon Day). Little Gary, (he's six foot eight!) attempts to navigate his Family, neighbours and employees through a series of hilarious adventures. One of the features of King Gary is the Great Cast, Neil Maskell (superb as always), Camila Coduri, Laura Checkley and Romesh Ranganathan. It also features really well written Scripts and some truly hilarious situations. Episode 5, Big Gary's Birthday at the High Tech Mini Golf Centre is Pure Genius and one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time! In Truth though, every episode is a Gem. Brilliant Show this and I can't wait for season 2.
Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge: Book Club + Dave Clifton (2016)
Reach for the Apples🍎
Superb episode this. The interview with Dave Clifton really is moving, it gives much greater depth to his character and actually choked me up!!. Book club focusing on the Wild Geese...sorry Swans is hilarious, Alan shovelling down his Beef Stasis with a bottle of red is a real wheeze!!! Thank God for Partridge.
This Time with Alan Partridge (2019)
Great Time for This Time...
Hilarious, Poignant, Morose, Toe-Curlingly embarrassing, Shocking and Seriously Well written & performed. It's a welcome return for Alan back on the Beeb and with reports of more Partridge Works in the pipeline, the future of Alan is well and truly in safe hands. Award Winning Comedy this, and in Steve Coogan we are watching a true Master of his craft at his Absolute Peak.
Matthews (2017)
Iconic Documentary about the Great Man
In an age where the word "Genius" is banded about Freely. Here is a Documentary about one such Man, Sir Stanley Matthews. The film begins in Soweto, South Africa, where Stan dedicated his immense football knowledge and contacts to coach Stan's men. These were some of the poorest kids in the world and Stan gave Hope and Inspiration to them and many others. This alone tells the Mark of the Man, when at the time he could have had a coaching or ambassadorial role at any club in the world, such was the esteem he was held in. The film then Tell the Story of Stan and his rise from modest beginnings to Global Superstardom, via remastered film footage and interviews with Sir Richard Branson, Gary Lineker, Jimmy Armfield, Nick Hancock, family members, Football fans and many sports reporters. Indeed it's this modesty and Humility, coupled with Stans incredible skill and work ethic that the filmmaker really captures here. As one of Stan's men himself says "Love is Forever". This is a Feel-Good Documentary about an Inspirational man who Deserves to be Treasured Forever.
Bob Monkhouse: The Last Stand (2016)
Masterclass & Legendary Gig
I was Fortunate enough to stumble on this Genuine Comedy Gem on BBC4 recently and was treated to a Hilarious and Poignant Documentary about Bob Monkhouse's last stand- up gig, at the basement room of the Albany pub in Great Portland Street, London. For those that don't know, Bob Monkhouse, who passed away just a few months after this performance, was a fixture in British entertainment since the late 50's. Although associated in later years with as a Presenter of Game shows, he had been a prolific writer of gigs and ad-lib performer with many other Comedy Legends such as Peter Sellers, Bob Hope and Tommy Cooper. The show plays in 3 parts, the first is Monkhouse at his Funniest, raw stand-up, genuinely funny one-liners, carefully navigating the line between Safe and Crude and always funny. The second part of the gig I found Fascinating, as Bob talks about his time working with other comedians, featuring many hilarious tales about Peter Sellers, Tommy Cooper and Benny Hill. This section is so crammed with knowledge and information about many other Comedy greats, I felt like I knew these comedy heroes in much greater detail and the camera shots of the audience also showed everyone, lucky enough to be at the venue, fixated and absorbing this priceless Comedy Gold. In the third part, which surprised many there, Bob brought to the stage, comedian and impressionist Mike Yarwood, who was frank and honest about his life and career. This section bought many more laughs and also showed us about Bob's outlook on life, as much as he enjoyed the laughs as the main focal point, throughout his career he always Encouraged, wrote for and gave up his time for many other Comedians. A man of his craft, he was a student of the profession, dispensing wisdom to those who lucky enough to hear. Throughout the documentary, were interviews with Comedians who had been invited to this gig, unaware this would be his last, Reece Shearsmith, Kevin Day, Mark Steele, Jon Culshaw, Dominic Holland, Fiona Allen and Junior Simpson were genuinely proud and seemed, rightly moved to have been part of a Legendary night, as a Great Master of Comedy for over 50 years, passed on all his knowledge and laid his soul bare for future generations. Anyone who has an interest in Comedy should watch and then rewatch this Masterclass from the "Rolls Royce of gag tellers".
Top Coppers (2015)
Book yourself a ticket to Justice City!
This new BBC comedy from Cein McGillicuddy and Andy Kinnear shows great potential, featuring Steen Raskopoulos, award winning Stand up Comedian John Kearns, Donovan Blackwood and filled with Fun cameos from Simon Farnaby, Alan Dale and Rich Fulcher. Top Coppers has a warm, familiar feel and lampoons just about every Cop/Buddy show from Starsky & Hutch to the Professionals and the Sweeney, throw in a bit of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Murder in Successville and Police Squad and I think you can guess where we're heading. Silly, Funny, Abstract humour, you can relax and unwind to. Book yourself a ticket to Justice City and giggle yourself Silly!!!
