Lockwood & Co. (2023)
Impressed
This show surprised me. It was familiar and unique at the same time. There were times where I tried predicting what would happen or how the characters would act and was pleasantly proved wrong in some instances. Also, this was the right way to implement a strong female lead. Even though we know her potential exceeds the rest of the characters, she isn't the "saviour with plot armor" who's strong for no reason that seems to be the trend with these recent shows. I appreciate how each character fits into their roles and aren't sidelined by the lead. My only complaint is that some of the effects seemed out of place like the sword trails, but that's it. The setting? Brilliant. The alternate version of the U. K. is too cool. Overall, excellent job by everyone.
Kaubôi bibappu: Cowboy Bebop (1998)
Cowboy Bebop ruined Anime for me.
Cowboy Bebop ruined anime for me because it's such a rare gem that there are not many like it. It raised my standards and gave me an unrealistic expectation for what anime should be. It's an absolute masterpiece. I can't say enough about it. The characters, art, animation, style, script, details, music, all of it is just amazing. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
Den of Thieves (2018)
Pretty good. You won't regret watching it.
I really enjoyed this one. At no time was I really bored while watching. Some of the key characters had pretty decent depth.
The directors were attentive to a lot of details that most will overlook just to make an exciting action movie, but details really matter. Most hollywood movies do a pretty God-awful job at depicting prior service personnel. However, this one was light on the over-the-top cliché military jargon that others tend to go overboard with, and the characters were believable as prior military service members, especially Pablo Schrieber's character (Kudos to Paul Maurice). When I first watched it, I was a little upset at the fact that he would mag dump his pistol dring his last firefight, but then I realized it could be because his adrenaline spiked. You could feel him panicking when he was cornered by Gerard Butler. Bravo, Pablo. The character that I liked the least was surprisingly O'Shea Jackson Jr. He being a skilled driver was definitely under-utilized, the interrogation scenes were not very good, and he just seemed out of place. The plot twist seemed random; it was a good idea, but it definitely could have been written and executed better.
Friends from College (2017)
Couldn't get past Episode 1
The writers need to spend more time around real human beings. I absolutely hated being there with the characters and having to observe them interact with each other. The characters speak like adults, but they act like every teenage drama cliché out there. They're the type of people I would have ended my friendships with a long time ago or wouldn't have had friendships with in the first place. I had to do a Google search, "does Friends From College Get Better?" Perhaps it's supposed to appeal to a specific target audience(maybe it's good to them) but I'm not it. It's not "raw" or "real" like everyone else is saying; it's the complete opposite.
The dialogue couldn't be more fake and dramatic. It's like the writers were like, "let's take these realistic issues and have our characters majorly overract to them instead of handle them like adults". What a waste of good actors/actresses.
