The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024)
Its not that bad if....
You realize its a reboot of the original being made as a trilogy. So yes the first one is pretty much the original with some minor changes. I liked the creep factor and in some ways the creepiness is better than the first. The acting is better as the movie goes on and you have to suspend disbelief as after all its just a movie. Curious too see how the other two play out and hoping this trilogy is the opposite of the recent halloween trilogy where the movies get better instead of worse. If you like creepy atmospheric films give it a try for yourself and dont make a decision based off the bad reviews.
One Day (2024)
beautifully done
I loved most everything about this series. I went in blind not knowing there was a book and previous movie. I just liked the premise and the time period matching up with my own graduation and entry into the real world. The acting is great and the chemistry between the main characters is amazing. I loved it until I didnt. The penultimate episode is a sucker punch and I almost threw the remote at the tv. The final episode was beautifully done and I loved it and it almost made up for Emmas death. Dax's grief was so palpable and I could have sobbed for an hour if I wasnt so pissed. The montage of them and the final kiss that wasnt did make for a beautiful ending.
The Strays (2023)
What an awful movie
Just dont bother. There is a funny ending but you have to sit through the mess to get to it. Boring characters and lots of rich snobbery. The acting is awful . The point of the movie is me, me, me and to hell with you. The strays are the main characters kids who she abandoned in search for a better life for herself. Not enough backstory to explain how horrible her life was. She is truly the poster child for selfishness. There is a lot of racial overtones. One of those movies that could have been a short instead of full length. The only good part was the ending which made me laugh. Otherwise just a bad boring movie.
The Twin (2022)
All over the place
This movie had zero clue what it wanted to be. The end result was just a mess and stupid. By the time it came together, I just didnt care anymore. But it is pretty tragic how your mind can turn on you... I dont recommend.
Umma (2022)
Just dumb
The first part of the movie was good, creepy then it just went downhill. It felt like they ran out of money and had to wrap it up quickly which led to bad acting and rushed scenes.
A Classic Horror Story (2021)
Completely stupid
Just dumb once the big reveal is shown and the ending.... Ugh. Some will like this but its been done before (cabin in the woods). If you look at it as complete satire going in, you will enjoy.
Fever Lake (1997)
Its not that bad
I liked it.. short and to the point. I am surprised this didnt become a cult classic
The Vanished (2020)
I guessed early on
I figured the only way she could have disappeared is exactly what happened. I kept looking in other directions as things the couple was doing made zero sense. Stick with it as it does get draggy. Its actually pretty tragic
Black Christmas (2019)
Ridiculous at best...
I am a huge fan of the 1974 movie and no way wanted to see this after the debacle remake years ago. But I did anyway. First, it started off fine enough In fact, I loved the little references they made to the original including the font of the title. So, they wanted to make something special and then it was all downhill. The story was so over the top ridiculous that no sane person could take it seriously. There was only 1 other person in the theatre with us and he asked how we liked it. Turns out his friend was the co writer for the film and believes she was trying to put satire into the film and everyone missed it. So, knowing this, I may give it a second look from that perspective. He believes it will end up a cult classic. Time will tell.
Side Effects (2013)
One of the stupidest films I have ever seen
It started off so good with so much promise. I was really into it, then it just became rushed and stupid I had to rewind thinking I missed something. It was poorly put together with some things making zero sense. Very disappointed.
Skyscraper (2018)
Honestly, one of the worst stories ever.
I love these disaster films but this is just plain idiotic. the plot is ridiculous. I was hoping for a throwback to the Towering Inferno, but all I got was a stupid plot with a lot of senseless killing. I cant decide if this is worse than San Andreas as I didn't make it to the end of the movie as I just didn't care how it turned out.
The Prodigy (2019)
Kid is terrifying
I really loved this movie. Didn't matter if I could figure stuff out without being surprised. I love horror movies for their creepy factor and this one delivered. Hasn't been a creepy kid like this since the original Omen. I recommend highly.
Desolation (2017)
so incredibly stupid
I love scary movies that take place in the woods which is what drew me to this. It starts off slow and actually builds to some scary stuff then goes right downhill into totally stupid. Its just ridiculous how this movie goes.
The Open House (2018)
Dont watch if you like your movies wrapped in a neat bow
I loved it. I have read all the bad reviews. This is what I like in a creepy movie. A creepy movie. No wrap up ending, no whodunit. I was actually hoping we wouldnt find out the killer because I knew I would be disappointed in whoever it was. There is a terror in the unseen and unknown that some people just dont appreciate. I loved the creepy setting, the creepy people, the big quiet house. It was scary and I would watch it again. The acting was great.
