House of the Dragon: We Light the Way (2022)
Something is still missing in the show.
I'm really enjoying the show so far and looking forward to it every week but I still not able to connect with the show or the characters so far. The emotional attachment when you watch invest your time in a good show is missing. I think the major reason is the time jumps that happened almost every other episode. They are not even letting the characters breathe a little. A lot of stuff happened but still feels like nothing happened. And everything that happened is very forgettable. I genuinely want to love the show and so far it's not going in the right direction. I don't want to watch it just for the sake of watching the show. Anyway, let's see how everything goes from here on, I'm expecting more substance in the upcoming episodes.
The Americans: START (2018)
This is how you do a Finale!
One of the greatest series finales of all time right there along with the likes of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Leftovers, Mr Robot etc. Exceptional storytelling! The performances are out of this world! I'm gonna miss the show so much! It's very rare to get a perfect series finale but the creators of the show did it and the way they did. Oh absolutely phenomenal storytelling! The Americans" was a show that didn't traffic in dreams much, or in wish fulfillment. There was a subtle softness to the finale, however: after all, the viewer knows, even if Philip and Elizabeth don't, that the Cold War is about to end. Those children they think they lost forever might not be gone for good. (Unlike, I keep thinking, the many people whose families they left bereaved.)
House of the Dragon: King of the Narrow Sea (2022)
High on style, low on material.
It was a fine episode overall. But without any spoilers I'd like to say most of choices the character made seemed very inconsistent with what the show established so far. Feels very out of the character for the choices they made in tonight's episode. Last episode we saw bizzare time jump and now this inconsistency within the characters. Even though visually the show is out of the world, story wise I'm not sure where it's heading! It seems like the writers want to give a twist (twist in a sense a character making decisions) to the audience just for sake of it a twist! I'm rooting for the show but apart from the premiere episode it has been okay so far. Looking forward to next episode.
Better Call Saul: Nippy (2022)
The episode asks the most important question of the series and that is what type of person Jimmy/ Saul/ Gene becomes towards the end of the show.
I feel like showing a full episode of Gene (610) after they teased about Saul Goodman in the last episode (609) is such a genius move to make us feel the same way Gene feels! Like deprive us from having something like Gene felt towards the end of episode! Exceptional character study in my opinion. I mean ofcourse you can say the episode is about covering his tracks and tying his loose ends (Jeff) but in the grand scheme of things this episode was more about that final scene where he takes a suit, checks it out and leaves it there. Whether that symbolises he will finally fully embrace the Saul Goodman / Jimmy McGill perosna once again or will he finally face the music and accept the consequences of his actions and come out clean! And I expect and hope that's what the last 3 episodes examine. That what type of person Jimmy/ Saul/ Gene becomes towards the end.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Chicanery + Bad Choice Road in one episode.
Nothing else to talk about. I'm still processing this masterpiece of storytelling. You gotta watch to appreciate it. ALSO I DON'T KNOW HOW I GOTTA WAIT FOR 6 WEEKS UNTIL WE GET THE NEXT EPISODE.
Better Call Saul: Axe and Grind (2022)
I feel like Season 6 Part 1 is more like establishing episodes and then we pay it off in Season 6 Part 2.
I absolutely loved the episode btw. A lot of people will compain about it how the show is slow (which isn't true) but it's important to establish something so that the pay off will seem reasonable and not rushed. Most of the TV shows suffer from being rushed and seriously If you want to check something fast paced check Game of thrones Season 8, where everything is fast paced but nothing makes sense.
Better Call Saul: Black and Blue (2022)
Storytelling at its absolute best. People need to read between lines, they expect everything to be spoon fed to them. So I tried to explain the whole Jimmy - Howard scenario.
It's basically who is thinking ahead in the game! You can draw parallel between Jimmy-Howard and Gus-Lalo.
From Howard perspective: First of all he is tired of Jimmy's antics and scams and he just wants to get done with it and wants an emotional edge over him in someway. But that's not the bigger picture here. He thinks he is ahead in the game (as he mentioned to his PI "everything going according to the plan"). As we know Jimmy is extremely reactive person (Already established he is very reactive but if you want to look into something specific check Ep: JMM, Witness) so Howard thinks beating or pushing him to this extent will make Jimmy angry and he will do something stupid that so that Howard can caught him red handed!
But here is the interesting part. Jimmy wants Howard to beat him up.
Jimmy perspective: Jimmy thought this fight was stupid and then he walked away until he realised he can gain something from this fight that help them in taking down Howard so he went with it. (It was later revealed when Kim said "You know what's coming next").
But here is something even more interesting, we don't know if Howard knows that Jimmy's plan was to get beaten up because he said everything going according to plan after his confrontation. I guess we will find that next week.
