One Perfect Day (2004)
Great Mix of Sight, Music & Drama
Saw an advanced screening and absolutely loved the storyline. This is a sort of Orpheus & Eurydice tragedy, where good ultimately triumphs over evil. There are fresh faces from Australia that I think will be A-listers in the future. The Tommy character (played by Dan Spielman) could have been black or Latino in terms of what he had to deal with in the unscrupulous world of music and clubs. His girlfriend Alysse (played by Leanna Walsman) falls into the wrong crowd and while Tommy tries to save her from the club/drug scene, she dies. She leaves him her voice in music and he beats that bad guys out of the club with his version of mixing classical and techno with video. The music mixed in with the storyline crosses racial and cultural lines. Paul Currie's direction makes this film a potential urban culture classic. Even though it was shot in Australia and London, this could be a story that happens in L.A., Chicago or New York. The film will make you just want to "party, party, party." Excellent.
