The Stairs (2021)
Slow burn, great visuals and music
I'm really surprised to see some bad reviews on here, it's clearly a smaller budget and production, and what the filmmakers did with that is great. The forest scenes are beautiful and lush - I'm from the pnw and that gorgeous greenery is for real - and there are some really creepy themes that run through the story. Great characterization with non-one dimensional characters. The music is perfectly unsettling and not your stock horror soundtrack. All in all well worth an hour and a half of your time!
The Party (1968)
hilarious but strange
I recently saw this movie, and I had mixed reactions to it. On the one hand, some of the funniest things I've ever seen Peter Sellers do on film are in THIS film. His impeccable accent, his awkward charm and spot on timing are as good as usual. The drunken bumblings of the party goers and staff were hilarious. However, the film had a strange experimental feel to it. Of course, that is not necessarily a bad thing; but many times I felt like I was just watching a series of gags and not much more. There was very little cohesion and very little plot. I also felt like many of the characters were simply one dimensional. Even the Peter Sellers/Claudine Longet love interest did little to rouse my sympathies or my interest. I didn't dislike the film, I'm still chuckling two days later over some of the more memorable lines. I guess it just left me feeling bewildered.
Raptor (2001)
So bad it's bad ... in a good way.
I thoroughly agree that this movie was so bad that it was good. I laughed my butt off the entire time. From the (questionably) sexy Melissa Braselle as an animal control officer, who can't raise her arms above her head for the seeming fear that her fake boobs will pop out, to the sinister Corbin Bernsen as Dr. Hyde ... complete with beret, this movie had me rolling.
I think my favorite piece of bad movie making was the splash of blood on the wall when a tyrannosaurus (raptor? what kind of dinosaur was it again?) attacks a marine. You can literally see the blood squirting out of a hose or bottle before it splashes on the wall. Hilarious.
I recommend this movie to anyone who is not prepared to take it seriously. Have a few drinks and settle down for a crap-o-rama. It's definitely worth it.
