Mother Up! (2013–2014)
10/10
I love it! Don't understand the low rating...
19 February 2017
I thought this show was hilarious. It really stood out in the world of animated comedies. The plot was original, funny, and had just the right balance between being realistic, and completely ridiculous. The characters were unique, quirky, either completely lovable or hate-able (is that a word?...lol) and just all around well thought out in my opinion.

I have watched it several times now and it just never gets old for me, I was so sad to find out it didn't get renewed for season 2.

Too many of these animated shows depend on dirty jokes, sexual situations, and gross-out humor, it was refreshing to see one that was funny without having to resort to that for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I love my Family guy, Futurama, American Dad, etc. just as much as anyone else, but this one is really different from those, and I liked it.

It has some things that are easy to relate to, which I thought made it even better, like the struggle of being a single mom, dealing with fake people, etc. But then it also had scenes that were completely absurd, and probably would never happen to a normal person, and they end up being hilarious.

Also, almost ever episode actually has a lesson to be learned that can be applied to most peoples life, another thing that is different than most animated shows. Usually, the lesson you take away from them is something ridiculous, like "If you're going to steal, be prepared to murder as well," from the Family guy fairy tale episode (lol).

A good idea, but not executed very well. Not the worst or the best.

Warning: Spoilers
The spoilers are really only in one paragraph, labeled **spoilers**

This isn't a bad movie, although I wouldn't say it's a great one either. It has plenty of suspense and a few moments that are truly terrifying. The atmosphere throughout the whole movie was, in my opinion, particularly well done, they really nailed it! I felt like the characters were well portrayed, however, I think they were not developed as well as they should have been, and although you got a few glimpses into their history and backstory, there really wasn't much to fill in the blanks, and let you really get to know them, or understand them. I think just a little more effort in that area could have made some huge improvements. As it is, it's sort of just like, here's a bunch of people going through some bad stuff, you don't know much about them, and therefore don't have a reason to care about them really, you don't really understand how they got to this point in their lives, and although it doesn't matter much to the story line, it leaves you feeling unconnected to them. So, when something bad happens to them, or they get killed, it's just like, wow that's awful, but oh well.

But, as far as the story goes, it is a pretty good one. Actually, it started off great, i thought. The first few scenes had me really into it, but it kind of lost it's momentum at some point. It had plenty of twists and turns, and kept on surprising me all the way through, which is always a good thing. The downside of that, though, is that it was sort of too much packed into one movie. Just when you think you'd figured out what was going on, everything changed. When you think you knew what to expect, the opposite happened. And usually that's good, but in this movie, it happened so much it started to feel...almost ridiculous, I guess. Just like there was too much going on.

**Spoiler** For example, when first sister (can't remember her name, sorry) died in the house of 'heart failure', she'd only been there once before that, so it's not like she had a big connection to the house or something. Then, the sister came there, and very soon she was attacked. Again, not a big connection to the house, or even the girl that had killed herself there. But then there's the suicidal girls parents, who I lived in the house too, and I assumed they probably remained there at least for a short while after her death, nothing happened to them, right? Or what about the girl who grew up there, and her parents, who were the ones selling it, although she'd encountered the girl in the red raincoat, she hadn't ever been attacked, nor had her family. So why is it only the sisters are who attacked? The things that happened to them were scary enough to make the movie good, but it sort of left me confused because I don't understand why they were targeted.**

I feel like it would have been better if they'd split it into 2 movies, and expanded on the scenes with more detail and more explanation.

Then there's the ending...Maybe it's just me, but I thought it sucked. To me, though, that doesn't necessarily ruin the movie, and I don't regret watching it. It was a good watch with a disappointing ending, but again, I think splitting it up would have really made it much better, cause one of my problems with how it ended was that I just felt it was too rushed, and not enough explanations were given.

Overall, I'd recommend it to any horror fans, especially lovers of possession or devil themed films, just don't go into it expecting too much or you will most likely be disappointed. It's not going to blow your mind, or have you re-watching it again in a day or two, but it won't have you bored to death, wanting to turn to something else half-way through it.

Elementary (2012–2019)
10/10
The best Sherlock Holmes inspired show!
23 December 2016
Although it's based on the same tale as the UK show Sherlock, Elementary does a good job of setting itself apart with a new take on the old characters. In it, Sherlock is a brilliant but socially inept recovering drug addict played by Jonny Lee Miller, and Lucy Lui plays his partner, Joan Watson, an equally brilliant ex-surgeon who now aids addicts in recovery transition back to everyday life after rehab.

After being hired by Sherlock's father as a 'sober companion', it doesn't take Watson very long to adapt to her role of being Sherlocks sort of 'sidekick' as he helps solve crimes as a consultant for the police department. Speaking of crimes, the mysteries and different criminals the two encounter are always intriguing, and the pair do a good job of uncovering clues and using deductive reasoning to find the hidden truths and catch the criminal.

Out of all the different Sherlock Holmes inspired television shows, I think this one may be the best. The backstories for the characters take the show in completely different directions than others based on the same story, and the modern setting works well. The main characters have a great dynamic and keep a steady stream of witty remarks and comments going back and forth…The cast is perfect, and play their characters wonderfully, and I really think anyone who enjoys crime shows and police dramas will enjoy this.

Writing this it got me thinking, there are a lot of similarities between 'Elementary' and 'Psych' so if you like Psych I think you will love it. Sherlock and Shawn are alike in many ways, such as being very smart, masters of observation, and brilliant at deductive reasoning, and they both have a (sometimes unwilling) 'sidekick', both working as consultants for the police, etc. So anyone looking for a new crime/police show, especially if you're a fan of Psych, Should give this a try, I think you'll really enjoy it.

Outcast (2016–2017)
10/10
Really great show for horror lovers!
18 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge horror fan, so I was really looking forward to seeing this, and it definitely didn't disappoint. The story moves at a good pace and quickly pulls you in as you start to learn about the characters, who are really well played. There's just the right amount of vagueness to build up the suspense and mystery without being confusing. Overall I really love the show so far, there are some really creepy moments which is pretty rare in the horror TV genre, and to me this show really stands out as unique, original, and interesting.

In a lot of horror movies/shows the characters are cheesy and very underdeveloped but that isn't the case with Outcast. I quickly started to develop feelings for them, like Kyles adopted sister who seems really sweet and caring but also good at dishing out tough love when it's needed, with just the right amount of quirkiness. Her husband on the other hand, seems kind of selfish and a bit cold with his attitude towards her brother, but he doesn't really seem like a jerk so I don't really know which direction it will go with him as I continue to watch.

I'm only 2 episodes in so far, so I'm sure there will be even more to love about this show before I make it through the season, but I can already tell it is going to be one of my favorites, such as AHS and Salem. It's got plenty of weird, creepy moments, without being too dark the way American Horror Story can sometimes be (although for me, I don't think there's such thing as 'too dark', but I know for some, it's tends to go to far sometimes..) so I feel like most people will like it.

Wentworth (2013–2021)
10/10
One of the best shows I've ever watched without a doubt!
30 November 2016
I put off watching this for a long time, under the false impression that it would just be a different version of 'Orange Is The New Black' (which I do love, but am not really searching for shows similar to it because I don't particularly like jail/prison shows) but man was I wrong. It is NOTHING like OITNB. Their similarities begin and end with it being set in a female prison.

When I finally gave in and started watching, I was instantly hooked. Each episode is filled with action and drama and plenty of moments that make you either laugh or cry. The characters are unique and truly wonderfully played, you will quickly grow to love or hate each of them (sometimes both!) and as you learn their backstories you get a sense of really knowing and understanding them.

There are some scenes that will literally have you on the edge of your seat, with your heart racing, yelling at the TV.

After finishing this, I had to go find 'Prisoner Cell Block H' and give it a try. While it's nowhere near as good as 'Wentworth' (in my opinion) it was definitely neat to see the differences between the two.

I'd definitely recommend Wentworth to anyone, I can't think of anyone I know who wouldn't like it, all of my friends who have watched it agree that it is one of their all time favorites! You will be kicking yourself for waiting so long to watch it!
