Zashchitniki (2017)
Aw, c'mon... it's pretty decent
I gave it 10 stars to pump it up because it doesn't deserve the 4 star combined ratings that it had. Within its genre, it was a very decent movie. Very ambitious and successful CGI. Decent acting. And, as far as a superhero movie goes, a decent story. Definitely better than the latest Fantastic Four movie. WAY better. Definitely worth your time to watch it, IF you like this type of movie. If not, then why watch it?
Triangle (2009)
A well written gem
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a while. There aren't many bad reviews on here but the ones that are here are unwarranted. They were probably written by the same people who think McDonald's is a fine dining experience. The concept, the plot, the writing and the acting were all terrific on this movie. It was full of surprises right up until the very end. I don't write many reviews on IMDb, but this movie was so good I wanted to let people know to give it a chance. If you have half a brain, you won't be sorry.
Gunpowder (2017)
Nice historical drama
Well made, well acted sumptuous historical-based drama. But, good gravy... more "entertainment" about how abysmally ignorant humans are. This story takes the cake, however, because the conflict herein is especially stupid. I'm not sure what the complaints about gratuitous violence are about - it has been rather tame and totally in service to the story. Not sure I need to watch more than the first two episodes, but only because I weary of human ignorance.
Arrowhead (2016)
Decent sci-fi
Better than average on-a-budget sci-fi movie. They did a lot with a little. I didn't always know what was going on, but the dialog and action at no point were just taking up time. But most enjoyable was the lead actor, Dan Mor - what a hunk! Lots of shirtlessness and skin tight shirts, so there was always something pleasant to look at.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
This movie is a total turkey
I cannot believe this movie got an overall 7.3 rating and the reviews singing its praises are incomprehensible to me. Re-watching this movie was about as enjoyable as re-watching Saturday Night Fever. The only reason I gave it a 3 rating is because it isn't quite as painful to watch as the aforementioned Saturday Night Fever. The story seems like it was written by the movie's juvenile co-star. The pacing is uneven, the story unoriginal and just plain dull. I wish I could be witty and say that I wished Capshaw's character perished in the sacrifice scene, but I wish her character bit the bullet LONG before that scene. Someone shut her up! That incessant screaming that had the most irritating whiny quality. Who told her she could act? Oh, that's right, her boyfriend, Steven Spielberg. Capshaw's acting ability was non-existent. The kids having their revenge was the best part of the movie. Too little, too late. "Then why did you keep watching?" I didn't. I finally decided the noise of my neighbor's air conditioner was preferable. Some folks are saying this movie was really a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. Who cares? What you should care about is time better spent than watching this movie. And it is made even worse by the fact that its predecessor was so so good. Good solid entertainment. "Blah blah, the haters." Okay. Whatever. But this crappy movie is deserving of our scorn.
Power Rangers (2017)
Simply awful
I will admit right off the bat that this movie is a perfect example of a pet peeve of mine: sloppy writing. Although it is not entirely the writers' fault. There is only an hour's worth of movie and the rest is padding. We don't see actual Power Rangers until an hour and a half into a two hour movie. If their target audience was 15 year olds, then the crappy story isn't so much of a problem. By the time the Power Rangers finally show up... I've stopped caring. And I didn't think it would be possible, but Elizabeth Banks is totally miscast and downright horrible. I had 15 minutes left on the movie and gave up. Didn't even care how it ended.
Gantz: O (2016)
Amazing. Period.
I have nothing to add to the other 10 out of 10 reviews for this amazing movie, except to say that the backstory doesn't matter. I don't read Manga and had no idea what this series was about and it didn't diminish my enjoyment at all. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to grasp the premise of the movie. Just sit back and enjoy one heck of a ride. The animation was jaw-dropping and the character development was spot on. I was actually rooting for most of the characters and the monsters were terrifically horrible. This movie was perfection. It's easily one of the 10 best movies I've seen in the last year. Treat yourself.
