Rogue (2007)
This is not actually "a crocodile" movie. It's far more than that!
Nor sure why this movie does not have better user rating but I loved it. The cinematography and the music were great and they managed to create a real atmosphere of the lonesome and ancient places of Northern Australia. It felt like I was there with them on that boat ride!
The acting was quite good and the story was as well, considering it was "a crocodile movie". But the thing is that - it wasn't! Not really. It was about human psychology and the (usually irrational) behaviour in the times of stress and hopelessness, more than anything else.
Really liked this movie and I caught myself thinking about it and re-watching it randomly every few years or so... And it's still good!
Willow (2022)
The joy, love and beauty of a fantasy!
The thing I love about Willow is that it whole-heartedly embraces everything that's wonderful about fantasy, but shirks the parts that seem to be favored these days. There is joy! There is love! There is beauty! It's not just trudging through misery or twisting the knife deep.
It was a fun, casual D&D type of adventure, contrasted with modern elements, and I had a blast watching it. While humor took the main stage, the drama and action had their own time well played in the spotlight.
Additionally, on an ensemble cast, typically there's one or two characters you care about and the others you tolerate. I was genuinely invested in every character on this show. To accomplish that in so few episodes takes real craftsmanship and the writers should get the credit and praise they deserve for this.
Killing Eve: Hello, Losers (2022)
What a horrible ending to once great Series! I'm disappointed and sad
What a horrible ending to once great Series!
Introduction of new characters in S4 that had no impact on the storyline. The 12 plotline.. what plotline? They made such a huge deal about this super powerful and hidden hydra-type organization, throughout the whole show, only for it all to be "resolved" in a cartoonish 20 second clip of Villanelle slaying them without even a proper weapon. Did we ever know what Konstantin wrote to Carolyn? Was Irina involved in the shooting of Villanelle? Why even bring Irina up in the penultimate episode if you're not going to use her? Why did the writers figuratively assassinate Carolyn's character so carelessly? Questions, questions, questions and none of them answered... And, finally, the epitome of all disappointments is in the last few minutes of the last episode - illogically murdering such a complex, colourful and beloved character like Villanelle, after finally being free oh her abusers and finding happiness with Eve, seemingly only for the shock value, and especially in such a bland, unimaginative and dishonorable way. After all the amazing development of all the main 4 characters, during the 4 years that we've been following the show, it just feels like a sneaky punch to the gut.
To sum it up - the last 2 seasons of this Series weren't that great (especially the last one) but kudos for destroying "Killing Eve" completely with that ending. Almost everyone who's watched it and loved these amazing characters has been left stunned and disappointed and I know with certainty that this bitter taste that's left after the Series finale will loom with me for the years to come!
The show I once truly cherished and highly recommended to friends and anyone looking for something original to watch, is not on my recommendation list any more. And it's truly a shame, because the acting, the chemistry between all the main characters, the ideas, the wit, the humor and so many more things about it were phenomenal. But no one should go through what we have with the last season and especially with the last 2-3 minutes of it all. Such a shameful waste of something that was once truly unique! :(
Wonderfalls (2004)
Brilliantly intelligent, witty and well acted series that was cancelled way too prematurely
For the life of me, I will never understand why this phenomenal show was cancelled so prematurely. I am a huge movie and series buff and some of my friends often call me a movie snob (I know it's true!), so I've seen it all - the good, the bad and the ugly. But I've seen this show 15 years ago, when it premiered, and I tend to go back to it and re-watch it every 5 years or so. It's simply brilliant every single time and it doesn't lose anything with the years. I've actually seen it again recently and I just had to come here and write this review.
I won't spoil you with the show's details, and the other reviewers had already posted about the gist of it, but I'm just going to say this - Do not miss this gem!
Killing Eve: Are You Leading or Am I? (2020)
Great finale to a good season
Although the Season 3 had its flaws (pacing was a bit off IMO), it also had some amazing character developments, especially for Villanelle, Eve and Carolyn. Wittiness and action of the show was not on par with Season 1 but it certainly was good enough and had me laughing in stitches and/or sitting at the edge of my seat on more than one occasion every single episode. The show is still amazing, albeit with a bit different feeling in the Season 3. Finally, that whole last part of the final episode of the Season was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! My heart grew as big as the house! Can't wait for Season 4 (and hopefully more)!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
An incoherent and emotionally dishonest mess!
This movie is a hot incoherent mess. Honestly, it felt like somebody loaded a shotgun full of Lightsabers, Star Destroyers, X-Wings and TIE Fighters and then fired it at my face.
The movie majorly focuses on fan pandering and nostalgia instead on telling a good character relevant and progressing story. It dishonors the found family trope, tramples on abuse narratives, dehumanizes its female characters and is emotionally dishonest.
Let's not even mention the terrible dialog (even for a SW flick), horrid execution of the movie with ridiculous pace and editing, close up shots and weird angles, stroke inducing lights and so much blue filter in almost every scene.
Ultimately, "The Rise of Skywalker" is fundamentally unjust and it dishonors the core of the Star Wars storytelling and the myth. It's cowardly and disingenuous, as it brute forces characters through the narrative without committing to any emotional truth or depth of feeling.
