Reagan (2024)
Beautiful Movie, Wonderfully Acted
The movie was really good! We were surprised actually at how well every actor performed and how well the story was told. It wasn't overly political in todays standards, but tells of the story of an amazing man & couple - who did lead the country in a times of political turmoil. We are a little young to know if all the events were factual, but that is what we'll be researching next.
This movie will have you laughing, tearing up / choking up at times, and REALLY keep your attention the entire time - with its phenomenal story telling. It's well worth your time, regardless of your personal political beliefs.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Much better than these reviews give it
Was it perfect? Naa. Was it way better than I expected. Absolutely.
Brilliantly acted. Andy Serkis is absurdly good! I happen to love Idris in most things, but Luther is definitely his calling card. He's awesome and it was great to see him again.
This is a great addition to the Luther collection and they did a great job with developing the story in a much shorter format that they must be used to.
It's entertaining. You won't be able to stop watching once you start, nor take your eyes off the screen.
I gave it a 10 to counter some of these unjust negative reviews. If you enjoy entertainment and the Luther series. This is well worth the time investment.
Last Looks (2021)
Thoroughly Enjoyable
It's all good. This is not an award winning movie. Don't expect perfection with the script, the production, but It was VERY well acted, it was entertaining - VERY entertaining.
All of the actors played their parts well. I have yet to find a movie that Charlie isn't good in. I even liked Mel Gibson with the British accent.
We were worried that it was going to be too artsy, as so many movies are these days. However, it really wasn't bad. It was certainly not overpowering at all!
If you've seen as many films as we have - you'll see it's a bit predictable, but definitely worth the price of admission for an entertaining escape from reality.
Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend (2022)
Don't listen to the negativity... see it for yourself.
We're not too sure why all the negative reviews. This was not an award winning movie, but it is definitely entertaining, keeps your attention, and is well acted. Perfect? No. Worth the time? Yes. Frank Grillo definitely gives a great performance that is a stretch for his usual role.... His accent slips from time to time - but honestly so what?
Take the time. Learn a little bit of history & and enjoy some good story telling. Just don't expect a movie that will take home all the awards from the academy. Instead, just sit back, relax and be entertained for an hour & a half. The way movies are supposed to be enjoyed!
Ambulance (2022)
Michael Bay must have been forced under contract
This movie had potential. It did. However: the sounds (background ominous tones & random noises like it's transformers) are so overbearing- it feels like a bully who is trying to make you say uncle.
If you try to listen to the dialog - which was VERY random & also written like it was a college students first draft - you must crank the volume. But don't worry because part of the way through the well acted & quietly delivered recital of the script: random deep sounds sampled at 750 million times louder than the actors voices will take over & perhaps cause temporary hearing damage... But at least you'll have no idea what awful lines were left to be delivered by the actors.
I waited for the digital price to come down to watch this one & frankly - I'm wishing I just rented it because I will never, EVER watch this thing again.
Day Shift (2022)
Wanted to like it.. We wanted to... just naaa
It was unfortunately like they got the script from a bargain basement... Plot holes you could drive a bus through.. inconsistency galore. Maybe there's a directors cut that's twice as long & makes more sense.
It had potential. I really wish it was better.
The Terminal List: Reclamation (2022)
Fantastic show with some unnecessary changes
The book was a blueprint to success. It's brilliantly written. The show has all the right tools to pull out an incredible visual telling of the written word.
The tactics & gun handling are definitely top notch for a show / movie. You can tell real experts were involved. Superbly enjoyable to watch.
The acting has been terrific. Not a huge fan of Constance Wu as Katie, and I felt there was a noticeable lack of chemistry between her & Pratt - which was not & could not be the case in the books. Maybe that's why they changed the end...
I really liked many of the changes that were made to tell the story in a visual medium. Most make a ton of sense. Yet for as pivotal as the Katie/Reece relationship is & the way he left it at the end of Terminal List - this change never should have happened.
That is the only reason I can't go 10/10. But 9/10 is still an A, and I could go 9.5 I would. @prattprattpratt & @jackcarrusa did a terrific job with this series!
The Terminal List: Disruption (2022)
Another great episode.
If you have not got the hint yet: DON'T watch this on a mobile device. Everyone watching on their phones complains it too dark. Watch it on a larger format like a 4K TV & it's perfect.
Loving this telling of the story. The changes & killing off of characters differs from the books - like Reece's interactions with characters too. Quite different telling with the same spirit. Horn was almost last to die on book, does much earlier here is episode 5.
Different but great. Everyone did a great job on this show - except not a huge fan of Katie B. The character is much stronger in the books & much more likable. Constance Wu just isn't doing her justice.
The Terminal List: The Engram (2022)
What a fantastic start
As a big fan of the books, and having looked forward to this for a VERY long time, the team did not disappoint!
The story differs from the book, but the story telling is fantastic & gets the audience to feel incredible powerful emotions in a great way.
Many have complained about the lighting & it being dark. I didn't have any complaints. Maybe others are watching on small screens or something - I watched in 4K on my wall mounted TV & felt it was REALLY high-quality production. They truly did film this like a big budget movie.
I cannot wait for the remaining episodes & hopefully - next seasons.
Vendetta (2022)
Tried REALLY hard to like it.
I wanted to. I really wanted to.but this was so badly written, so horribly directed & edited and ultimately very poorly acted. I only finished it - because I couldn't bear to waste that time & not at least see the ending.
The Line (2021)
Bias much?
I watched the entire thing. Compared it to what I remember when this was going in & also compared it to other sources. This was so obviously produced to try & make these guys look like hero's and make Eddie Gallagher look like a bad guy that got away with it. They also tried to make it seem like the President was out of line for stepping in & doing his job at one point.
They completely left out testimony that I've seen & heard myself, in order to frame this the way they wanted & not be just a true documentary of what happened. You can even tell how they take interviews of Eddie & play sections out of context to make it look worse.
At one point they even FAKELY try to humanize a terrorist with some guy that MIGHT be his father but at the end they are forced to state that many families think he was there son!
As someone who has lost friends & family to this war - I am deeply offended by this. I didn't want to do what everyone else does & shut of something I didn't want to hear. I watched every minute of this documentary & am deeply disappointed. Do your own homework & you'll see how badly skewed this series is!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Almost Perfect
My wife & I were so excited for this based on our love of the original & how good the preview looked. We both hated the Melissa McCarthy reboot.
This is a near perfect sequel, not a reboot. The cast does a phenomenal job. All of them. Really impressive.
I don't want to give anything away, but if you liked the original Ghostbusters, then you need to watch this!
Small Engine Repair (2021)
Real Movie Making
Fantastic performances! Terrific character development. My wife & I could not turn away. As parents of daughters in this crazy day & age, it really does hit home. We felt the full gambit of emotions, as the movie hits true in many ways.
It was not an anti-male movie the way many are portraying it - but it is a movie that will make you think. We all know people exactly like the characters in the film & that is one of the many things that's great about it.
Watch it. Be entertained. See some great acting. Don't expect a masterpiece - just expect an entertaining movie.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Very entertaining!!
There are a bunch of haters writing some negative reviews. I don't get it. Movies are for entertainment, and this was VERY entertaining!
Are there some plot holes? Sure there are. But we're you really watching this movie & expecting something that is truly plausible- or watching it for entertainment value & to forget about reality for nearly 3 hours!?
This movie brings the entertainment in a big way, and is more than worth the price of admission: your time.
Pop some popcorn, grab a drink, and just sit back and suspend disbelief for a bit!
American Fighter (2019)
Fun - better than expected
Don't expect a masterpiece! It's a fighter movie set in the 80s & it's just like an 80s fighter movie should be.
It was entertaining, it keeps your attention, it's got good fight scenes, it's completely cheesy. It's nostalgic as hell :-).
Enjoyable & worth the price of admission :-)
Without Remorse (2021)
Movies are Not Books, but... no.
I fully understand that a story teller must tell the story differently on screen than on the page. It's expected. It's not possible for the movie to be the exact representation of the book in such a short time frame either.
However - they didn't need to make this one so "woke" with jumping right into having a female SEAL. I could even forgive that if the character development really allowed for it - but it was just not really there either. It was a bit dry and just mediocre.
I liked the action sequences & the coordination was pretty on point. That's what kept the score as high as it is, honestly.
This probably needed a different title - it's so different. Maybe even set it FAR into the future to believe the woke nature of it. I hope detail oriented Tom Clancy didn't roll over in his grave.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
Great movie!
I do not know the real history. Now I am going to go learn it. This was brilliantly acted and We could not take our eyes off the screen. Seriously, the acting in this is phenomenal!!!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Not perfect - but who expects perfection?
Visually stunning! Absolutely masterful to look at. The story is definitely predictable as an adult who's seen a lot of movies - but, my children were absolutely glued to the screen and enjoyed every minute of it! I assume they are the target audience, not me.
The humor does run a bit flat at times, and parts can seem quite unfinished and anti-climatic. Even rushed.
All in all - it is a good movie and not deserving of some of these harsh reviews I'm seeing. Not a 10/10. But definitely not a 3/10 either.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
So much better!!!
I think it goes without much convincing that Justice League wasn't the greatest... This fixes that!! Well done, sir! Bravo! Bring on more of this!
Thoroughly enjoyed this version - it was worth the 4 hour investment. Every minute. I think I'm going to have to repeat this again soon.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Entertaining, empowering & worth watching
Was it perfect? Definitely not. You could pick it apart if you wanted to. Like any movie.
Was it entertaining? Absolutely! Which is what movies are meant to be!!! It's like Die Hard in high school & was rather well done!
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020)
Not expected to be so great
My 4 year old twins loved it & so did my nieces & nephew ranging in ages (11, 11, 7 & 8).y kids started with season 1 & then were thrilled when season 2 came out.
The nieces & nephew learned about it as a suggestion from us when season 2 came out & shocked us by streaming all 2 seasons in a single weekend with the grandparents.
Everyone just loves it & we like watching it with them to. They add in a lot of the Jurassic Park / World magic & suspense without the gore & a nice plot for the kids. Highly recommend it for kids of all ages who love dinosaurs.
Irresistible (2020)
Fun non-partisan poke at our political system
I thought this was going to be a Blue is great Red is bad type of movie & was pleasantly surprised how well this movie just ultimately slapped the US political, class & media systems in the face with witty, well written and well-performed characters. Jon Stewart and team earned some honest respect on this one.
Kingdom (2014)
One of the best acted shows on TV
We only found this gem on NetFlix & are so glad we did. We truly can't stop watching. The character development is fantastic and there is some absolutely incredible acting in this show!
My wife and I are dreading when it comes to end and hoping that maybe NetFlix will bring it back, now that it's found a bigger audience.
Frank Grillo is terrific, actually the entire cast is really good, but Jonathan Tucker truly steals the screen. It is amazing and really unexpected to see this guy do his thing & get a couple of folks like us rooting for him even through his crazy antics.
Seriously a lot of fun when it is meant to be and heartbreaking when it's supposed to be - just truly surprisingly a great show. We didn't expect it.
The Croods: A New Age (2020)
What a sequel!
Now this is what a sequel should be! Took the fantastic character development and built on it in a great way. It took every ask peck of what made the original so good and built on it all!
This movie had all members of my large family ranging from 70's, 40's, 20's, teens & our 4 year olds entertained / laughing and glued to the screen every minute.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Disappointed
The acting was good. I have to admit. We've seen all these actors & know they were performing as directed and scripted; and they performed very well! That is where the issues are. The script, story and direction.
It's also a visually stunning film. Truly.
But in this age where the super hero stories can be so epic, this one was a dud. The first WW was incredible and the sequel was a real let down, no wonder (no pun intended) HBO gave it away with HBOMAX.
