Godzilla (2014)
In the Top 10 of Best Godzilla Movies, and in my top 5 of favorites
How do bring Godzilla to American audience, without going to Toho (Godzilla 2000) or Tristar (That Monster Movie from 1998)? You don't try to mimic, you do something original. Godzilla 2014 was one of those movies that most fans simply hated, but they're reasons were invalid. Everything they did in this film followed how Toho would have made it. In fact, I bet Toho's 2016 movie will have a similar thing that we did, but now everyone will love it because it's Toho. People don't want to admit we did a good job.
The film has good characters, but had any Godzilla movie had huge character development, nope!
Godzilla fights other monsters, but have we ever had an uninterrupted final fight? Nope
Have we had a Godzilla movie with small screen times? Yes, all of them!
OK, OK, they killed Byran Cranston, but that was because I think he didn't want to do more movies,? Or maybe they need motivation for his son? Either way, they had a good reason to do it? And yes, it angered me but I got over it.
The cutaways, there was only one cutaways that got me angry and that was Godzilla's first appearance. The other one towards the end was fine because right after that the final battle began. This one we don't get to see a battle. There was a simple solution Gareth Edwards couldn't done, give I'd a mini battle. All the Godzilla movies have a small fight before the final battle, so a quick snip maybe even just a few minutes long, it didn't have to be crazy. The reception of this movie would have a changed like that, I hope Godzilla 2 will have G fight Rodan, Ghidorah and Mothra on his own first, than all of them in the final battle. That would fix the problems.
Also has there even been a Godzilla film where is the center focus? NOT ONE! NOT EVEN THE Original! It's always the humans and/or the other monsters. The MUTOS get more screen time than Godzilla and that's normal.
Also, the most important thing, is that they got the most important part about Godzilla right. Yes he breathes fire, yes he's indestructible, yes he's this and that. Not of that matters unless you get his purpose right. They did. He is natures power to restore balance. Without that, he's just a monster. Every monster has to have a reason, and they got it right. They didn't in 1998 or 2008 or 2013 with any of the big monster movies. This one did.
The main problem Godzilla 2014 suffers is his audience. His audience has never seen another Godzilla movie besides the one from 2000, or maybe some saw none at all. It also had the unfortunate time of being release after Pacific Rim which gave no purpose to monsters besides making them look awesome. People were expecting that over Godzilla. that is what sad, I hope that Godzilla gets better years, he's already rising to fame. New video game this year, TOHOS film next year and a sequel in 2018
Godzilla, I believe you will get appreciated again.
GodIlla 2014 is dam good movie, a excellent monster movie and a spectacular Godzilla movie
Gojira vs. Supesugojira (1994)
I personally like it a lot, but others may not
Having GodIlla fight a clone of himself on paper sounds weird. How would it be unique? Well SpaceGodzilla is actually quite menacing, he captures Godzilla's son and wishes to take over the world. The monster fights are good, there's good screen time for Godzilla, which is always good, but like a lot of movies he takes a backseat to MOGURA, who is a less cool version of MechaGodzilla. For a nearly 2 hr movie, the 40th anniversary film of Godzilla is actually quite entertaining, but suffer the series common problem that some of the the other Heisi era films escaped from.
But all in all, good film.
Gojira vs. Mosura (1992)
More of Mothra film than a Godzilla film, but It's the 64 film with a twist.
The Battle For Earth serves one problem. It feels like you're watching a Mothra film, which I guess isn't bad, because everyone loves Mothra. Mothra gets some new powers in this film, so she finally stands a chance against Godzilla.
Speaking of Godzilla an unfortunate truth is that he has less than 20 mins of screen time, but it's not as noticeable as Ghidorah or Biolante, but it has less than 85.
Battra is a nice surprise. He's so cool, he's a combination of Rodan and Gyaos from Gamera. It's a character like him that makes this more of a Mothra film.
The final battle is pretty cool, the underwater scene between Godzilla and Battra is bad ass. The ending of the fight shares some similarities to the final fight in Godzilla vs Ghidorah, but I won't spoil it.
The Battle For Earth is also a sort of prelude to Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla, which is actually 2 films away.
In the end, The Battle For Earth is more of a Battle for Who's Movie it Is. But it's fun if your a fan of Mothra. Oh yea and Godzilla
Gojira vs. Mekagojira (1993)
definitely the best of the Hiesie, maybe even the best Godzilla Film of all Time
I can't put into words how much I love this movie. It might just be my favorite film, it's up there with Tokyo SOS, DESTORYAH, And FINAL WARS.
First off there's about 30 mins of Godzilla. He makes his first appearance early one and he gets A LOT of screen time.
Then there's Rodan who's gotten her best incarnation yet, and it will remain as my favorite version of her (or he?!).
Of course there's Mechs G, who in my opinion gets his best look. I like good guy Mecha G, but Kiryu was overdone to me. This is my favorite Mecha G.
The monster fights are amazing, the monster scenes are amazing, and the whole film is just awesome. By far one of if not the best of the Godzilla Films.
Gojira vs. Kingu GidorĂ¢ (1991)
Definitely the kick start the Heisi era needed, just not enough Godzilla
Alright, this is the film that's been regarded as the best Godzilla Film. In My Opinion, it's Either Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II OR Godzilla vs Destroyah. But this is MUCH MUCH better than Godzilla vs Biolante and better than The Battle for Earth.
The plot is the most involved out of all the films, but that's the problem, this film gets too caught up in its plot the forget we're watching a Godzilla film. Godzilla is in the film for 15 mins (IVE COUNTED) out of 1 hr 42 mins. Now most times, Godzilla takes a backseat, to the other monster in the film. But King Ghidorah unfortunately gets just as much screen time as Godzilla. Actually if you count Ghidoarh and Mecha Ghidorah as two separate monsters, he has less screen time than Godzilla.
The destruction scenes are really good. Both monsters get there own destruction scenes. The highlight is the fight between Godzilla and Ghidorah. It's one of the best monster fights ever, and he kicks Ghidorahs butt. But then it's followed by a meh final battle That ends with no one winning. The problem is that Ghidorah and Godzilla's fight is so good, that it can't be topped
Either way, maybe it really is the best Godzilla film. It's defiantly better then some of the other entries, but it's not MY favorite. But this was the sequel that should've followed Godzilla 85. It's defiantly on the top 10 best Godzilla films.
Gojira vs. Biorante (1989)
In My Opinion, a disappointing entry, but it's not the worst
It's hard to find a sequel that could possibly top the masterpiece that was Godzilla 85. I was so excited to see this movie, I had never found a copy of f it, and when I did in Bluray, you could see my excitement. It's not bad, it has the same basis as any other Godzilla film, a villain minster that gets most of the attention, a few minutes of Godzilla and great monster fights that are interrupted by humans. It's the same, but yet it works most of the time because is different. Believe me this one is very different, but for some reason, the whole movie could've worked better if Godzilla wasn't in it. Biolante is that interesting of a minster she didn't need Godzilla to be a good monster. The final fight is of course the highlight of the film, but it's the only time we truly get to see Biolante. The first time she is just a rose. Some would argue that Destroyah has the same thing, revealing his true film in the last film, but unlike Biolante, Destroyah was monster that constantly evolved, and he got cooler every time. The first time we see Biolante, she's a giant rose.
All in all, it's been regarded as the best godzilla film, I enjoy the final fight, it's not the worst Godzilla movie, but in my opinion it's defiantly not one of the best
Godzilla 1985 (1985)
Definitely the most underrated Godzilla Movie,
I own both the Japanese and "Americanized" version of the movie, and I saw the Japanese because I hate how he Americanize Japanese classics. Anyway, I saw it and it was amazing. By far the most underrated film in the entire Godzilla series. Godzilla is terrifying to look at, he destroys everything in his path and it's defiantly one if my favorites in the series. The Hiesi series is by far my favorite Godzilla series, and this is the film that started it all. The only problem, 22 minutes of Godzilla out of 1 hr and 45 minutes and not another monster appears in the film to fight. But a nice entry in the series. It's a shame it was never released in America, and it was followed by the horrendous Godzilla vs Biolante. Godzilla (85) is worth a watch, and I personally think it's the best movie to get people into Godzilla. He's in color, it's not as super serious as the original but it's enough to get kids and adults to see how cool the Big G really is.
