Kuranado (2007)
Wow. What overrated Junk
I've known about this series, especially after story for a long time and heard many praises for it and all I can say is...
That was pathetic.
For anyone who thinks this story is heart-rending or any quality whatsoever probably comes from some of the """dark""" concepts it deals with. I.e. Death, loss of a child, neglecting your son, etc. But it handles these issues so poorly and without and nuance or with any relevance to reality.
All the characters aimlessly wander about and don't actually grow. Our main protagonist is the typical centre of a harem and he's the centre of attention by all the girls around him. In the 2nd series I was looking forward to Nagisas death because I thought it might add some depth to the predictable drama but it amazingly didn't. It spent no time on her death or the grief from Tomoya and just skips 5 YEARS LATER. This is the same with their entire relationship, we jump around so quickly passing by years at a time and they still have trouble just holding hands???
This show was written by children, for children who think it's much deeper than it actually is. If you want something that handles death and the lasting impacts of it on people go watch Grave of the Fireflies it's infinitely better.
Adding onto this, I would've respected this show if they had subverted the Harem genre by giving Tomoya everything he ever wanted, and ripping it away piece by piece. But they didn't.
The Legend of Vox Machina (2022)
Pretty good but what was that start
Start = bad. It just does. Way too rushed but whatever.
16.6% of the show is 10/10
33.3% of the show is 9/10
25% of the show is 8/10

The briarwood arc is brilliant. The humour, especially in the first ghastly episode, is very immature and childish but there are moments when it is quite good, i.e. See the scene spent on the door. When the show is more subtle with the humour, the better it is.
First 3 episodes are incredibly rushed and Grieg's fight has no weight to it since we don't know who this guy is nor do we care about him or the rest of the cast.
This show is made for the fans obviously and it's meant to be a testament to how brilliant this group of DND players are, but for anyone new watching, they should really just skip over the first few episodes and just watch the Briarwood arc. Sure you might be missing some context for initial character relationships but you'll get that anyway in later episodes. And by god, missing the gratuitous caricature of what could be called a pilot episode is worth it to get to the marvelous writing that is the Briarwood arc.
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
An incredible film that portrays loss and adolescence
While Lost in Translation was not Sofia Coppola's best film, this may be one of her best. A very thoughtful piece about the growth of friendship and then the sudden loss of it, leaving behind an emptiness and lack of closure that nothing can fill.
An original story which doesn't try to surprise with the mature themes but embraces them and demonstrates how these characters that we love and adore can lose it all through overly religious parenting.
A film that should be watched not just for the acting but to understand how suffocating adolescence can be in households which try to nurture empty joy.
Casablanca (1942)
A classic for a reason
Definitely a classic. Definitely worth watching. Humour is as impactful as ever and the powerful moments hit hard.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Overrated and not worth your time
The first 2 hours of this film are sluggish and so slowly paced that getting through each scene was a pain. Brad Pitt does very well with Leo taking his characters inability to act a bit too close to the bone. Margot Robbie is fine as an aesthetic alongside the main cast. Additionally seeing other actors like Al Pacino is always nice.
The final 15 minutes when the twist occurs is amazingly stupid, chaotic and fun. The only redeeming part of this film.
The main gripe I have with this film is why we focused quite a large amount of time on Sharon Tate. If we wanted a twist for the sake of subverting audience expectations which has nothing to do with Sharon Tate, why focus on her so much? The reason was to give the audience a red herring just so we could have our expectations subverted. But in this case, are we supposed to know the true details of the story or not? What parts of this story are true and false? And if this is not a true story, then we need to be given more information about the characters in the film otherwise it is nonsensical crap.
What were the Manson cult people doing? Was their ONLY motive to go and attempt to kill the hollywood celebrities because they "saw them on TV murder so we gotta do that too yo" ??
This film has a very thin plot which is held together by great cinematography, acting and (somewhat) amazing directing. If you like all the throwbacks to the "Golden age of Hollywood" then sit back and enjoy this meandering mess of madness because you are the target audience.
